Bowman Lusambo’s “Victory Lap” to Luanshya: Bulldozer Begins His 5-Year Road Trip to the Cell Block

In a twist that no ceiling beam - or political analyst - could have seen coming, former minister Bowman Lusambo has officially embarked on his five-year journey to, well, jail. The Zambia Police Service, escorting Lusambo in a heavily guarded Land Cruiser, had one goal in mind: to bring him to Luanshya, where the Magistrate would hand him his official sentence. But if you thought five years behind bars might dim Lusambo’s spirits, think again.

As he exited Chilenje Police Station, Lusambo channeled the same resolve he once used to enforce Covid-19 lockdowns, waving his fist at a crowd of journalists and declaring, “Okay guys, we are strong, we are coming back in 2026! We're very strong, we are coming back to take power in 2026!” Never mind that 2026 will see him smack in the middle of his sentence if things go as planned - apparently, “Bulldozer Logic” operates on its own timeline.

Meanwhile, lawyer Jonas Zimba stood by, quietly shaking his head as if to say, “That’s Bowman for you,” while Lusambo’s wife Nancy watched with a mix of loyalty and dread, as the armored convoy sped off.

The trip to Luanshya, a bumpy six-hour drive, became a social media sensation before the tires even hit the main road. Zambians took to Facebook and Twitter, speculating about the conversations happening inside the police vehicle. Some imagined him giving a “mini-campaign rally” right there in the back seat, with slogans like “Strong from Ceiling to Cell” or “2026: Bulldozer Strikes Back.”

By the time they crossed the Copperbelt border, it was as if the whole country was in on the joke, picturing Lusambo’s future campaign: “Bowman 2026: Raising the Roof of Zambia!”

And for Luanshya residents, the prospect of the Bulldozer rolling into town has become the comedy of the year. One local commented, “We didn’t know we’d be welcoming him back so soon… or in such style!” The local Luanshya police are bracing for a memorable visit, though they’ve assured the public he’ll be treated like any other prisoner. Well, except for the fact that this particular prisoner was last seen waving his fist, seemingly more excited about his political comeback than the actual journey to jail.

For Bowman Lusambo, the road to Luanshya has become his grand “victory lap,” ceiling boards and all. And with his 2026 declaration echoing across Zambia, the only certainty is that this five-year sentence won’t go down quietly. Because when you’re Bowman Lusambo, there’s always a comeback waiting - perhaps just beyond the next ceiling tile.

UPDATE ON THE MOVEMENT OF THE COLD BOX UNIT ABNORMAL LOAD

The Cold Box Unit Abnormal Load, which is in transit from Katima Mulilo Border to Solwezi's Kansanshi Mine has today left Kazungula District in Southern Province.

The load resumed its movement today, 4th November 2024 after undergoing the technical servicing of the truck horses and it's today expected in Livingstone for a night stop.

The Cold Box Unit is vital to mining operations and weighs 154 metric tonnes, along with the two truck horses and self-steering axles, resulting in a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of 224 metric tonnes.
