GOVT SHOULD SIMPLY ALLOW THE ONGOING PF COURT PROCESSES TO RUN THEIR COURSE
========================

Minister of Justice says there was no court order but subpoena served on Registrar of Societies.

Perusal of Black's Law Dictionary, 11th edition shows that a "subpoena is a writ or order commanding a person to appear before a court or other tribunal, subject to a penalty for failing to comply".

So, it is clear that the Registrar was served with a court order, and complied to avoid commuting contempt of court, and possibly being prisoned.

The Minister also alleges that the computer printout submitted by the Register is defective. That is a matter for the courts of law to determine.

The more government wants to justify the illegalities and constitutional breaches concerning PF internal wrangles, the more it is becoming evident that Government is playing the central role in the saga. And that is not tolerable because it is serious State assault on the democracy of our beloved country.

Government should simply let the PF sort out their wrangles in court. The ongoing court processes will surely bring their issues to close pretty soon. Especially if the court justices heed to the counsel by the Catholic Bishops who called for speedy determination of political matters for peace in the Nation.

STOP PROSECUTING PEOPLE IN THE MEDIA

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Government must stop prosecuting and persecuting people in the media. Their dirty campaigns from Opposition has been perpetuated in Government.

They lied through a statement issued by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) that she had bought a bank worth K300million. It had to take Bank of Zambia to dismiss the falsehoods by the ACC.

They lied that she owned the 48 houses. Now a different couple emerged as owners and has been jailed for the property.

Now they say she owns Fishponds worth K13million! Imwe mwaliimbapo ama fish ponds bushe? How much can fish ponds cost? K13million? in Kanakatampa area? land sitting on traditional land? Maybe they were misquoted, maybe it's K13,000!

Of course the over-evaluation and the deliberate overstating of the value of the properties is designed to incite maximum public loathe and cause great embarrassment against the family.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) started a process to seize assets through a non-conviction based forfeiture Order, and the matter was with their media networks the whole week before their lawyers or the family could be served the documents!

What was the intention? To scandalise the family and conduct a public trial for a virtual public lynching.

STATEMENT BY THE ACTING MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND MEDIA AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON HON, MAKOZO CHIKOTE, MP ON CLAIMS THAT GOVERNMENT IS DEMONISING THE LUNGU FAMILY

Government wishes to categorically deny allegations by members of the family of the former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu that it has played a part in influencing the alleged demonisation, on various media platforms, of some members of that family who are presumed to own properties suspected to be proceeds of crime.

It is important to emphasise that Government's intention is not to demonise any individual or family, let alone, members of the family of the former President but rather to ensure transparency.

Zambia moves down on Peace Index
... In Sub-Saharan Africa, Zambia in 2023 deteriorated moving from being ranked as 6th most peaceful country in 2022 to 9th most peaceful country in 2023

The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has bemoaned Zambia's deterioration on her levels of peacefulness as contained in the 17th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) the universe leading measure of peacefulness around the globe conducted by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

This is a slight deterioration from the 2022 GPI when Zambia was ranked as the fifty sixth (56) most peaceful country in the world.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, Zambia in 2023 has experienced a deterioration of peace as the country has moved from being ranked as the sixth (6) most peaceful country in 2022 to the ninth (9) most peaceful country in 2023.

Zambia is ranked ninth (9) in 2023 behind Mauritius, Botswana, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Senegal, Madagascar, Namibia, and the Gambia. Zambia’s ranking has been affected by a deterioration in the indicators of ‘incarceration rates’ and ‘perceptions of criminality’,"

The GPI ranks 163 sovereign states and territories as per their levels of peacefulness and this number of states and territories covers 99.7% of the global population measuring peace across three domains namely: the level of Societal Safety and Security; the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict; and the degree of Militarisation.

According to the 2023 GPI, the average levels of country peacefulness deteriorated by 0.42% becoming the thirteenth (13) time that such deterioration in levels of global peacefulness has been recorded in the last fifteen (15) years.

The Pain of Police Brutality

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

On 14th June 2023, a group of about twelve men accosted me at a car wash in Woodlands around 15;30hrs.

They demanded I accompany them. They showed me no Identities, or Warrant and their 3 cars were not marked as Police Vehicles.

When I demanded that they allow me to phone my wife or my lawyer, they prevented me from doing so and proceeded to brutalize me in full view of members of the public.

I sustained injuries on my right thumb, Wrist, both shoulders, a painful neck and I sadly lost a tooth.

Two weeks later, I am still nursing some of the wounds.

Those that have met me will confirm that I am unable to shake their hands with my right hand.

I have since reported the matter to;

1. Woodlands Police Station for the Station to process the complaint of aggravated assault.

2. The Police-Public Complaints Commission.

3. The Human Rights Commission.

I also submitted medical records signed by doctors from the University Teaching Hospital and attached pictures of the injuries.

Rizwan Patel of Petauke and Given Phiri suffered far worse injuries than me at the hands of the Police.

I feel sad when I see those mocking us or blaming the victims or justifying the barbaric, criminal and inhuman behavior of the Police against citizens.

It is therefore heartening to finally hear stakeholders such as the Law Association of Zambia(LAZ) and others condemn these illegal actions and police brutality by the police.

The crime of torture and dehumanizing treatment of persons is a serious offence that is outlawed, not only by our Constitution but also by the United Nations, and the crimes are prosecutable not just in Zambia, but also at the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague.

Please note attached is a File Pic; someone doesn't want me to sign.

According to BBC NEWS AFRICA

It feels like artificial intelligence is all around us. The technology is developing at a rapid rate and is transforming countless aspects of our lives.

Like the rest of the world, businesses and services in Africa are using AI in their day-to-day operations.

But how are you being impacted by AI? And should we be wary of it? The BBC spoke to some AI experts on the continent to find out.
