To conclude the time spent in Harare, Friday 29th November, the WIPO-IFRRO Reprography Project meeting was held. The meeting was nothing short of insightful, inspiring and engaging.
Key highlights from today's discussions
- The panel of Copyright experts and heads of CMOs, which included ZARRSO's CEO Ms Ruth Simujayangombe, discussed the benefits and efficiency in using WIPO Connect as a tool and discussed Blockchain in depth
- The progress and challenges of the WIPO-IFRRO Reprography Project were alluded, with great strives in both Anglophone and francophone CMOs being pointed out.
- A presentation on Survey methodologies was shared by CopyGhana as they elaborated their recent success in conducting a survey. Discussed were the challenges in user reporting and innovative ways to encourage participation of users.
- Another highly informative presentation was shared by a representative of BBDA of Burkina Faso. The presentation highlighted distribution models and determining the remuneration of authors of different work classes.
- The Communication and Engagement presentation was shared by a representative of ONDA. It was underlined that the objective of communication was to strengthen the ecosystem. Further, a copyright engagement framework was illustrated, encouraging CMOs to 'Think Global, Act Local'.
- Lastly, the WIPO-IFRRO RRO Project's way forward for the year 2025 was conveyed, highlighting focus on operational issues based on the Working Groups. The meeting was also informed that we have the pleasure of continuing with Mr Olav Stokkmo as our Consultant which all present were pleased with.
