MULYATA HIGHLIGHTS THE ROLE OF CHAPLAINS IN SOCIETAL TRANSFORMATION AT GRADUATION CEREMONY Reported by: S. ErnestDate: 27th December, 2024.Lusaka, Zambia.Lusaka Province Minister, Sheal Mulyata, has called on newly graduated chaplains to use their training to actively contribute to the well-being and moral upliftment of society. Speaking at the graduation ceremony for community chaplains under the Religious Affairs Chaplaincy Services (RACS), Ms. Mulyata, represented by Lusaka Province Assistant Secretary Gideon Mwanza, urged the graduates to embrace a broader role that extends beyond spiritual guidance.“The work of a chaplain is not only to offer counsel, but to provide comfort and solace during times of crisis,” she said. “As spiritual leaders, your influence can help heal the emotional and social wounds of individuals and communities.”The Minister emphasized the significant impact that ministers of the gospel can have on shaping societal values, encouraging the new chaplains to play a proactive role in addressing critical social issues. She recognized the contributions of the 154 graduating students and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to education, citing how global evidence has shown that education is a transformative force in combating poverty and driving societal progress.Dr. William Njombo, Chairperson of RACS, also spoke at the event, stressing the urgent need for chaplains to engage with the pressing social challenges facing Zambia today.
