Madrid- The Ministry of Tourism and Zambia Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) have undertaken a benchmarking visit to Le Cordon Bleu Madrid (LCB) with the aim of establishing collaboration in tourism education.
Le Cordon Bleu is an international network of hospitality and culinary schools offering certificate to degree programmes in haute cuisine focused on hospitality management, culinary arts, and gastronomy. The institution consists of 35 institutes in 20 countries and has trained over 20,000 students of various nationalities.

Speaking after the tour of the institution, Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary Mr Evans Muhanga expressed interest on behalf of the Zambian government to explore collaboration with the institution as Zambia seeks to establish a Centre of Excellence for tourism education in Livingstone.

Mr. Muhanga said the visit to the learning facility provides Zambia an opportunity to begin preparing the destination to receive visitors from the Latin America region whose diverse culture, language and culinary needs are unique to the region.

And ZITHS Governing Council Chairperson Ms. Mulemwa Moongwa says the benchmarking visit is important to learn and appreciate best practices which has set the school apart. Ms Moongwa says the visit that was facilitated through the UN Tourism Secretariat in Madrid is an important milestone in establishing exchange programmes for faculty and students in the short term.

In response LCB Director General Rosario Cobo who was excited to host the Zambian delegation pledged to initiate the conversation on behalf of the Zambian government to the headquarters of the institution for collaboration.

ZITHS is currently undergoing a transformation that includes improvement to its current infrastructure as well as student offering which will include programmes at all levels in culture language, culinary, hospitality, travel, leisure and MICE tourism to meet the rising demand for skills in Destination Zambia.

President Hakainde Hichilema Prioritizes Social Services and Calls for International Collaboration at Diplomatic Corps Gathering

President Hakainde Hichilema, says his government is focused on improving basic social services and called for international collaboration to enhance trade relations.

Speaking during the annual greeting of the diplomatic corps held at the Intercontinental Hotel, President Hichilema expressed his gratitude to the diplomatic corps and emphasized his administration's commitment to serving the people of Zambia.

President Hichilema said government will this year prioritize basic social services and announced an increase in the government's budgetary allocation for social protection programs.

He said the funds will be aimed at improving water supply and upgrading unplanned settlements such as kanyama, reflecting government's dedication to enhancing the living conditions of its citizens.

President Hichilema said his government will not delay in taking necessary actions to improve the lives of the Zambian people.

The president also Reiterating his call for sustainable rural development urging individuals not to leave rural areas without a plan and encouraged them to take advantage of the government's agricultural support programs by promoting agricultural productivity and self-sufficiency.

Meanwhile, he Expressed gratitude to the diplomatic corps and called for collaboration in enhancing trade relations recognizing the significance of international cooperation, adding that there is need for joint efforts to improve trade between Zambia and other nations.

He also emphasized the importance of changing the narrative surrounding Africa stating that global decisions has to be made in consultation with African leaders, ensuring that the continent's interests are adequately represented and considered.

Zambian Minister of Technology and Science Visits Leading Gemstone Processing Company, Emphasizes Collaboration for Industry Growth

Mutinta Jewellery Company Limited was honored to host the Zambian Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, and his delegation on a field tour of the company's facilities. The company, which is Zambia’s leading gemstone processing company, has the capacity to process 2000 carats of hard gemstones and more than 6,000 carats of soft gemstones. In addition, they have the capability to process precious stones from all neighboring countries with the necessary government support.

During the tour, Minister Mutati emphasized the importance of using appropriate technology to increase the revenue generated from gemstones. He called for reverse collaboration and expressed the ministry's interest in learning from Mutinta Jewellery Company Limited's state-of-the-art processing equipment to eliminate revenue loss in the industry. The minister also highlighted the potential for Zambia to become a center for gemstone processing, with the help of companies like Mutinta Jewellery.

Meanwhile Ministry of Technology and Science Director Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training, Alex Simumba, was impressed with the company's technical capability and modern equipment. He praised the company for its passionate investment and expressed his belief that the government has much to learn from Mutinta Jewellery Company Limited.

And Mutinta Jewellery Chief Executive Officer, Msafiri Sinkala, echoed the sentiment of mutual learning, stating that there is a lot the company can learn from the Ministry of Technology and Science, and vice versa. He also emphasized the company's willingness to assist the government in bridging the knowledge gap in the gemstone industry, with the goal of making mining a major revenue earner for the government. Sinkala also called for a policy that would introduce the appraising of Zambian gemstones, a task for which his company has the capacity.

The visit by the minister and his delegation highlighted the important role that companies like Mutinta Jewellery Company Limited play in the development of the gemstone processing industry. The exchange of knowledge and collaboration between the government and private sector is crucial for the growth and success of this industry.
