Kabanana, Zambia's groundbreaking soap opera, was a landmark in the country's television history, often credited with popularizing the concept of local telenovelas. Launched in 2002 and aired on ZNBC, it became an instant hit due to its engaging storytelling, relatable characters, and strong focus on societal themes. The show explored topics such as family dynamics, relationships, and social justice, resonating with a wide audience across Zambia.

Aired by Muvi Studios, Kabanana stood out for its high production quality and its ability to tackle complex social issues in a compelling manner. It ran for several years and eventually gained international recognition when it was broadcast on Africa Magic channels, making it accessible to a broader audience across the continent. SHOCKING STORY OF HOW SOME SELECTED LUSAKA COMPOUNDS WERE NAMED, A MUST READ.

Once upon a time there was a large farm which was made up of what is now southern Lusaka, owned by a farmer John Laing, hence the compound by the same name.
He lived there with his wife and family. He had general workers who
lived on different parts of the farm, but some of his workers lived on the side where they were looking after chickens what is now known as “Kuku” compound or “Kwa Kuku”. Along came a youngman, John Howard, whomarried Mr Laing’s daughter.
John Laing gave John Howard a part of his farm to manage, now known by his name as well.
When Mr Laing died, his wife moved out of the house to live at a new site. The old home stead is now known as”Chibolya” compound, meaning abandoned place in Bemba
The new place where Mrs Laing moved to became known as “Kwa Mrs” or”Misisi”compound as we now know it today.
Before her death, Mrs Laing decided to give her faithful workers some of the land, this area is now known as “Chawama”, to acknowledge the good deed done.
Kuomboka name came through the migration of 1976 flood in kanyama which made then president KK to relocate the people from kanyama to a place part of chawama (which is now called Kuomboka as a Lozi traditional ceremony, which was named by a late Mr Alexander Kapokola a Lozi man who was the chairman of the migrates from kanyama
Then kanyama was a big ranch were a lot of animals where kept and some butchering used to take place hence the name Kanyama
This is a true story.

20 years ago today, Zambia's Cherise Makubale won the first ever Big Brother Africa Show. The show started on 25th May 2003 and ended on 7th September 2003, lasting 106 days.

During these 106 days, the housemates brought their emotions, opinions, cultures and personalities into focus as they lived, fought, laughed, argued, learned and loved under one roof. On the last day, Cherise Makubale from Zambia was pronounced the winner of the first ever Big Brother Africa.

NKANDA YATU LAUNCHES WINTER/FALL COLLECTION WITH LUIS MUNANA

Lusaka, Zambia – Nkanda Yatu is a well-known international fashion label in Zambia founded by Head Designer Nkandu Kabaso and is popularly known for its stylish, high fashion, and exquisite patterned suits.

Nkanda Yatu has continued to expand its international work portfolio with the launch of a new collection in Namibia called "Fit for a King" with Namibian-based designer, entrepreneur, and reality show star Luis Munana, who made his debut appearance in the second season of "Young Famous and African" that premiered on May 19, 2023.

Nkanda Yatu has continued to remind us that fashion has no rulebook. The "Fit for a King" collection is a celebration of style, innovation, and the desire to leave a lasting impression when you wear it. The collection aims to inspire and push the boundaries of traditional menswear. It is specially curated for men who have a strong appetite for fashion and who seek innovative and trendsetting design. It offers a thoughtfully selected range of garments that capture the essence of a king.

The collection effortlessly blends high-fashion aesthetics with masculine sophistication, and working with Nkanda Yatu to tell this story has proven once again that fashion is not restricted by language, borders, or culture. Everyone appreciates great style, and that is why it unites even people with different cultures, which is the most exciting element of our work," said Luis Munana.

Nkanda Yatu's collaboration with Luis Munana and the stunning backdrop of Namibia's coastal landmarks, has brought forth a collection that not only showcases exceptional fashion but also captures the essence and beauty of the African continent said Kabaso Nkandu . The collection was styled by the credible stylist Nadia, an image consultant, and shot by Namibian top photographer Andrew Ingo at different historical tourist sites in Namibia, including The Sandwich Harbour (the incredible mind-boggling landscape of contrasting sea and dunes), the white salt pans, the Namib desert dunes, the jetty, and the luxury Strand Hotel in Swakopmund.

Since the introduction of his fashion label in 2017, Nkandu Kabaso has created an undeniable footprint in the international fashion space with credible fashion showcases at Zambia Fashion Week, Lusaka July, Milan Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, Windhoek Fashion Week, and Fashion Without Borders in Botswana and South Africa.
