MOBILE MONEY VENDOR DIES AFTER FALLING FROM MOVING VEHICLE OF CRIMINALS WHO TRIED TO STEAL HIS PHONE

POLICE REPORT

LUSAKA: 27/09/2023 - Police received a report of murder in which a 22 year-old-man identified as Wilson Mulenga Chanda was killed by suspected criminals who pushed him out of a moving motor vehicle and ran over him.

The incident occurred on September 26, 2023 around 20:00 hours at Shoprite Kalingalinga where the deceased used to work as a Mobile Money vendor.

Brief Facts of the matter are that two suspected criminals borrowed a cell phone from Mr Chanda. The suspects were driving a Toyota corolla registration number BAF 5725 in view of making a call, he only realised after giving them that they were criminals who steal mobile phones and held on to the car door whilst it was moving along Alick Nkhata Road.

However a police officer who was nearby fired warning gunshots after witnessing what was happening with a view to rescue the deceased but the vehicle continued moving and eventually pushed the deceased from the moving motor vehicle who hit his head on the tarmac and sustained a deep cut on the head.

He died on the spot near kalingalinga police post and the suspects ran away after the vehicle was shot at and the tyres were deflated.

It was later discovered that on the number plate they had altered the letters and figures using a seal tape. They turned "F" to "P" and "2" to "8".

The motor vehicle has since been impounded and parked at Woodlands police station.

The body has been deposited in the university Teaching Hospital Mortuary. Police have launched a manhunt for the criminals.

27 PEOPLE ARRESTED IN ITEZHI TEZHI MAIZE LOOT

Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has warned against riotous and criminal behavior in the Itezhi Tezhi District.

The lawmaker fired the warning after some Itezhi Tezhi residents yester night ransacked a maize depot purporting that it was linked to Mumbwa slain business man Ernest 'Yakaipa' Sikaonga.

But Hon Mutinta has clarified that the maize has no connection to the mentioned individual but belonged to an individual identified as Chikalala.

He notes that atleast over three thousand (3000) bags of maize were looted adding that the struggle to bring in security slowed the process of bringing calm but the reinforcement of security from Namwala, Choma and officers from the Department of national parks and wildlife helped bring sanity by midnight last night.

Mr Mutinta has also disclosed that two hundred (200) bags of maize have been recovered so far from the operation and twenty seven (27) suspects have been arrested to help with investigations.

The MP states that no life or property was lost and the situation remains calm but has cautioned against anyone taking advantage of the volatile situation in Mumbwa to carry out criminal activities reiterating that criminality will not be condoned.

He has urged any aggrieved members of the community to allow the law to take it's course.

ZAMBEZI AND MUMBWA RIOTS A SIGN OF DECAYING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN POLICE - SILAVWE

The opposition Golden Party of Zambia (GPZ) President Jackson Silavwe has described the recent Zambezi and Mumbwa riots as an indication of the decaying public confidence in the Zambia Police Service.

And Mr Silavwe has called for the immediate arrest of all those who participated in the Wednesday riot in Mumbwa saying they must be treated like common dangerous criminals who do not deserve to exist in society.

Commenting on the brutal killing of two Mumbwa based businessmen by a mob on suspicion of practicing ritual killings in the area, Mr Silavwe who condemned the action, also appealed to members of the public to desist from the habit of taking the law in their own hands.

And Mr Silavwe has called on the Police command to restore professionalism amongst its ranks and files, as they begin engaging members of the communities within which they operate as a way of restoring public confidence in their work.

Meanwhile, Kabwe Central Baptist Church presiding Pastor Gabriel Nsofwa has encouraged members of the public not to take revenge but allow God to do it on their behalf as directed in the Bible.

Pastor Nsofwa who has condemned the Mumbwa brutal killings, also reminded the aggrieved parties to always remember that no matter the offence, the accused has the right to be head especially before the competent courts of law.

But in a turn of events, Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu has announced that Police in Mumbwa has apprehended two suspects belived to have been involved in the murder of two men who had their hearts and private parts ripped out.

Mr Mwiimbu has since assured the people of Mumbwa safety including other businessmen who were targeted in the wake of the rumors.
