Tips on Bulls

👉Use bulls that are no more than 3 years old. Older bulls can be temperamental, difficult to manage and are more likely to have injuries to the p***s, back or legs. They increase the risk of injury to both the cattle and to the people working with them.

👉Choose virgin bulls whenever possible as they are less likely to introduce venereal diseases to the herd; but avoid using bulls that are less than 15 months old. If using non-virgin bulls, discuss testing for the venereal diseases, Trichomoniasis and Campylobacter with your vet.

Common signs of calf diarrhea:
• Watery stools that may be brown, grey, green, yellow in color.

• Occasionally blood and mucus may be evident in the stools.

• Calves are often weak and depressed, and may lose their desire to nurse.

• Calves develop a sunken-eyed appearance as a result of dehydration. The bony prominence of their hips, shoulders, and ribs may become more apparent as the calves dehydrate and metabolize their body fat reserves.

• Calves may stagger or sway as they walk; this often reflects weakness, low blood sugar concentrations, and/or alteration of the acid-base balance of their bodily fluids.

• Calves become too weak to stand. Left untreated, death typically occurs within 24 hours.

• Depending on the cause(s) and the severity of the infection, a case of diarrhea in a calf can last 1-2 days or as long as 2 weeks.
Recommended treatments for calf diarrhea:
The highest priority in treating diarrhea is to give back to the calf the water and electrolytes that it has lost in diarrhea – this is called fluid therapy. This corrects dehydration, restores normal acid-base balance, and replaces salts in the calf’s bodily fluids.

Valuable advises life will teach you

1.. Give, but don't let others take advantage of you.

2.. Love, but protect your heart from being hurt.

3.. If your absence doesn't affect someone, then your presence never truly mattered to them.

4.. Listen, but don't forget to express your own thoughts and opinions.

5.. Trust someone completely and you'll either gain a lifelong companion or a valuable lesson.

6.. Communication is essential for a relationship, and respect is vital for love. Trust is the foundation to keep going.

7.. It's funny how people start wanting to be with you when you find happiness on your own.

8.. Being unique is better than striving for perfection.

9... High standards shield you from negative experiences.

10.. If someone doesn't show the same enthusiasm to talk to you, it's better to stop talking to avoid hurting yourself further.

11.. Hurting someone takes only seconds, but repairing the damage can take years. Treasure those who love you.

Did you know that pig is the most efficient animal in converting feed to meat.

About 75 per cent of the total production cost of a pig farm is the cost of feed.

At ProFarmer, we provide trainings to the farming community on feed formulation aiming at reducing feed cost.

Anaemia is characterized by a reduction in the number of red blood cells in the body. It can occur because of bleeding (which frequently occurs during farrowing) or, more commonly, dietary deficiencies.

Anaemia causes a variety of symptoms such as pale skin, rapid breathing, scours, weakness, and jaundice. Piglets are more susceptible to the disease, and symptoms appear around a week of age.

The simplest way to prevent anaemia is to give your piglets an iron injection within a week of birth. The injection should be given between 3 and 5 days of age, in the hind leg or into the neck.

If your pigs become anaemic later, you can administer iron injections to them. However, because the intestines absorb iron and copper slowly and in small amounts, a supply of these minerals may not be enough to completely reverse anaemia. You may also need to provide electrolytes.
