A BIZARRE incident has been reported in Chongwe’s Chikonkoto village where a two-month-old infant is allegedly able to talk, causing fear among residents who are now demanding the banishment of the baby and her family.

According to eyewitnesses, the infant, who cannot yet walk or sit up, calls out for her mother, Alice, when distressed, using phrases such as “Alice bwela unitenge sunvela nilila’ (Alice, come and get me, can’t you hear that I’m crying?)” or “Alicia, navela njala, nifuna kudya’ (Alice, I am hungry, I want to eat.)”

The infant’s great grandmother, Loveness Musawa, believes the baby is demon-possessed, while headwoman Chikonkoto, village secretary Edmond Matambo, and other villagers have confirmed the strange occurrences, describing them as “jaw dropping” and “bizarre.”

However, the situation has taken a darker turn, with residents pressuring headwoman Chikonkoto to banish the family from the village, fearing that the infant’s alleged ability to talk may bring evil spirits or misfortune to the community.

ONLY A ONE BY THREE CLASSROOM BLOCK COMMISSIONED.

With only few days to kiss a goodbye to the year 2024, residents of Lupososhi district in Northern Province have bemoaned lack of any feasible development under the Constituency Development Fund-CDF.

In 2024, only a one by three classroom block and a staff house in Mufili ward has been commissioned in the district,as by November 20,2024.

While the anxiety of residents to feasibly witness total transformation of social and economic development as seen in other constituencies remains a mystery in the area, the over K30, million which was supposed to be entirely used for projects such as the construction of schools, health posts, teacher's houses among others, yet with no convincing projects to point at.

One of the senior residents talked ,charged that ,high corrupt activities could be taking place in the district, especially among those in higher positions.

" We cannot deny the fact that the same amount given to Lupososhi Constituency is the same as in Kabwata Constituency in Lusaka respectively. But the question is " why is it that we are ending the year without anything to point at as a product of CDF funds in this district?", he asked.

" Instead of using the available funds to develop the area, they want to pocket the money,at the expense of the entire district ".

" I'm therefore calling on authorities mandated to monitor the utilization of these funds to quickly to come in, ascertain and monitor why these funds are bearing fruits elsewhere, but not here in Lupososhi ",he said.

He also said going with this trend of left unchecked, the people of Lupososhi risk lag behind with no tangible social and economic transformation, owing to the selfishness of those in authorities.

" We have the council, the DC,and the MP who are positioned to make use of the funds. But the reason why we are stuck, it is because of the lack of transparency in the utilization of these funds by these people", he added.

And when contacted for a comment, council chairperson Kelvin Mwansa stated that the district has not seen the much needed development as expected, under CDF.

" As of 2024, we have only commissioned a one by three classroom block and a staff house in Mufili ward. And this is worrying because this puts us in an awkward position as elected leaders", he said.

" The failure to have feasible projects,is a disadvantage to me as a council chairperson and the republican President as well. So we need to work together to ensure that things work accordingly", he added.

Meanwhile, another resident told us that, plans are underway to establish the next step of action, with regards to the reason why the district has nothing to show for development to date, using the Constituency Development Fund-CDF.

(ZANIS)The United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped the Iyaya Ward by election in Malole Constituency, Mungwi District.

ZANIS reports that Iyaya Ward Returning Officer, Benson Chiluba, declared UPND candidate Bernard Nkole as duly elected Iyaya Ward councillor at 23:05 hours.

Mr. Nkole polled 690 votes, beating his closest rival, Andrew Mulenga of the Socialist Party, who got 631.

Norious Chileshe of Citizens First polled 498, while David Mulenga of Leadership Movement was trailing behind with 30 votes.

Speaking in an interview shortly after being declared the winner, Mr. Nkole thanked the electorates for giving him an opportunity to serve them.

He pledged to work hard and spearhead the much-needed development in the ward.

And speaking earlier, Socialist Party candidate Andrew Mulenga conceded defeat, saying the election results reflected the will of the people.

Mr. Mulenga added that the election was free and fair.

Meanwhile, UPND Provincial Youth Chairperson Paul Mulenga said the victory is a testament of President Hakainde Hichilema's leadership, which has scored in most sectors of the economy.

However, Mr. Mulenga called on the need to sensitise people about the Constituency Development Fund in the area, saying it was sad that most people in the community did not have much information about CDF.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has bemoaned the low voter turnout that characterised the Iyaya ward by election.

Mungwi District Electoral Officer, Cleophas Mbotwa however, attributed the low turnout to agricultural activities taking place in the ward due to the onset of the rainy season.

Mr Mbotwa, however, expressed happiness that the election was calm and peaceful during and after voting.

A total of 1,878 votes were cast against 5,699 registered voters.
