A Call to Zambian Youth: Choose Peace Over Violence

Over the past decade, political violence in Zambia has become an alarming trend, one that has brought no benefit but instead has left a trail of division, pain, and disillusionment. As we reflect on this reality, it becomes crucial to remind ourselves of an essential truth: political figures and parties may come and go, but we, as a nation, remain. Zambia is our home, and it is our responsibility to ensure its prosperity and unity.

Political affiliation should never be a justification for violence. Loyalty to a political party should stem from shared values, vision, and hope for a better Zambia—not from hatred or harm towards others. When we hurt one another in the name of politics, we lose sight of the bigger picture. The very leaders we fight over often forget our sacrifices once they rise to power, leaving us to bear the consequences of a divided society.

We must ask ourselves: what has political violence truly gained us? The answer is clear—nothing. We have lost brothers, sisters, neighbors, and even the spirit of unity that once defined us. Zambia, our shared heritage, is packed with brilliant young men and women capable of contributing to its growth and development. Yet, instead of channeling this energy into building our nation, we have allowed it to be consumed by political conflicts.

It is time to change. Let us support one another, regardless of political affiliation or differing views. Let us strive to create a nation where youth leadership is characterized not by violence but by innovation, compassion, and a vision for peace. Imagine the impact we could have if we united to address the challenges facing our country, using our creativity and intelligence to solve problems rather than perpetuating divisions.

As Zambian youth, we have a unique opportunity to set an example for future generations. Let us advocate for peace, understanding, and mutual respect. Let us show that we can belong to different political parties and still work together to build a stronger Zambia. Let us replace the iron bars of violence with the tools of dialogue, education, and innovation.

Zambia is for all of us. As Africans united in the growth of our continent, we must stand together to protect our nation from the destructive forces of political violence. The time to act is now. Let us embrace peace and forge a path that secures a brighter future for Zambia and its youth.

Together, we can build a nation that thrives on unity, creativity, and peace.

Cyclone Chido kills 94 people in Mozambique

Cyclone Chido has killed 94 people in Mozambique since it made landfall in the east African country last week, local authorities have said.

The country's National Institute of Risk and Disaster Management (INGD) said 768 people were injured and more than 622,000 people affected by the natural disaster in some capacity.

Chido hit Mozambique on 15 December with winds of 260 km/h (160mph) and 250mm of rainfall in the first 24 hours.

The same cyclone had first wreaked havoc in the French Indian Ocean territory of Mayotte, before moving on to Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

REVIEW PART 2: YO MAPS' VIDEO 'My Hero.'

By Eddy Vessel Mk Jr.

As a musical person, the audio is on point; I haven't yet paid much attention to the mixing and mastering. About the video: I think the opening act of the music video was a bit long and should have been shortened from 3:41 to about 1:40.

Secondly, in the opening act, the picture I get is that the orphans were not well-to-do, and they didn't even have money for food or transport for the burial program. I also noticed that there was no money to purchase a coffin or a blanket to lay the deceased mother in. However, the burial looked lavish, and the orphan at the burial looked very rich compared to the picture we got from the opening act, where he was unable to get even food for the funeral. If I were a director, I would have suggested that the clips at the burial site match the picture in the opening act.

In this case, Yo Maps, the orphan, should have been wearing something that portrays his hardship and not looking very rich, which shows inconsistency. That's my review of the video; otherwise, we keep on supporting our musicians to reach greater heights.

Yo Maps Yo - MY HERO SONG REVIEWS

By Dennis Wei Mulenga.

1. The song is totally macabre as it promotes a typical Black tax mentality of those family members that suggest they are owed a livlihood by those that are seemingly doing well in the family. It's promoting laziness to a large extent that some family members must just be on the receiving end and therefore demoralisez hardword owing to the fact that when you work hard, you must take up the responsibility of fending for the rest of the extended family. So those children complaining about their Uncle, why didn't they reject the assistance and instead take care of their mother when alive as well as expenses on the funeral because from the burial site (pa memorial kuma K75,000 a slot), it is indicative of Uncle Ganizani's financial interventions.

2. I have failed to coordinate the story being hero when you expected family members to take care of the same hero. Ninshi u-hero uli pati? You should have sang about how she pushed so hard to fend for you and not driving a dependent attribute yet calling her hero.

3. The intro is too long. They were not decided between doing a music video and Acting because how can the intro be longer than the song itself?

4. He better hope no one drags him into some copyright legal issues with that SA beat he borrowed.

5. The lyrical coordination has become senseless and befitting of grade one kids in mufumbwe.

It's a flop for me, but based particulary on the manda feature with a rich videography👇, I will generously give it 2/10.

Ps: I will selectively dance to those of his jams i enjoy like the recent Ex wamunandi so😀

UNLAWFUL TREATMENT AND ARROGANCE OF TRAFFIC POLICE IN KITWE MUST END.

Owning a car in the Copperbelt has unfortunately become synonymous with harassment and unlawful treatment by traffic police officers. These officers, who should be enforcing the law with professionalism and respect for human rights, are instead treating residents like criminals for basic traffic offenses.

We understand that unlawful mistakes happen—driving without a license, expired fitness certificates, unpaid tax, or pirating are violations, but they are not criminal acts. Yet, in Kitwe, traffic offenders are dragged out of cars, beaten, and humiliated. This is beyond the law and a gross violation of human rights.

What’s even more concerning is the silence from those in authority. Videos exposing these behaviors have been shared across social media platforms, tagging key authorities like RTSA, the Minister of Home Affairs, and even the President. Still, nothing has been done. Are these videos falling on deaf ears? Has the suffering of the Copperbelt residents become a joke?

To the Minister of Home Affairs Jack Mwiimbu and Ask RTSA, we appeal to you:

Stop ignoring the cries of the people.

Enforce the law within the boundaries of human rights.

Introduce warnings, citations, and education instead of brutality.

History has shown that neglecting the voices of the people leads to a government’s downfall. The people of Zambia deserve respect and fairness, not mistreatment for merely owning a vehicle.

Dear Mr. Hakainde Hichilema Sir with all due respect and honor, This is not just a plea—it’s a demand for justice, accountability, and humanity.

We refuse to be treated like criminals. Copperbelt residents deserve better.

A 14-YEAR-OLD girl who was reported missing in Itezhi-tezhi district has been found at the house of her 18-old-boyfriend who had eloped her.

Mr Daka said Sarafina Chipembele, 52, of Nkobo area, Chief Kaingu, reported that her daughter was eloped and defiled by her fellow child boyfriend.

“On an unknown date but in the month of October 2024, the suspect met the girl in Nkobo area where he was staying and he proposed love to her and she accepted.

That is how they started their relationship and eventually started having sexual intercourse,” he said.

Mr Daka said later in the month of November 2024, Shimbili shifted from the farm to Itezhi-tezhi Township after securing some piece works.

He said Shimbili decided to elope his girlfriend and the two started staying together in Chibolya Township without the knowledge or consent of the girl’s parents.

ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COURT DENIES FORMER FIRST LADY ESTHER LUNGU STAY OF EX*****ON ON FLATS FORFEITURE

Court rules that no sufficient grounds or special circumstances were presented to halt the forfeiture of 15 double-storey flats to the state.

Lusaka, Zambia, December 18 – The Economic and Financial Crimes Court has declined former First Lady Esther Lungu's application to stay the ex*****on of a ruling that forfeited her 15 double-storey flats to the state. The court found that Esther failed to present sufficient grounds or special circumstances to justify such a stay.

On September 27, 2024, the High Court ruled that the flats were "tainted properties" and ordered their forfeiture to the state. Esther subsequently appealed the judgment to the Court of Appeal and sought a stay of ex*****on from the High Court to prevent immediate enforcement of the forfeiture.

In a ruling delivered by Justices Pixie Yangailo, Ian Mabbolobbolo, and Vincent Siloka, the court emphasized that the decision to grant a stay is discretionary and requires compelling grounds. “It is a well-settled principle of law that a successful litigant is entitled to the immediate enjoyment of the fruits of the judgement,” the ruling stated.

The court clarified that a stay may only be granted under stringent conditions, including where the applicant demonstrates a risk of irreparable loss, the presence of special circumstances, or a situation where the appeal would become moot without a stay.

The judges reviewed the grounds of appeal submitted by Esther and concluded they lacked sufficient prospects of success. “Accordingly, we have perused the grounds of appeal exhibited, and it is our opinion that they do not disclose any prospects of success, especially taking into account the facts and the authorities cited in the judgement being appealed against,” the ruling read.

Esther had argued that the forfeiture violated her constitutional right to property and raised concerns about the court's departure from precedent. However, the court ruled that these arguments failed to meet the threshold for granting a stay.

“Further, as can be seen from the affidavit evidence, the issues that the interested party seeks to rely upon do not constitute special or exceptional circumstances on which the court may grant a stay of ex*****on of the judgement,” the judges stated.

The court underscored the distinction between conviction-based forfeitures and the non-conviction-based forfeiture applied in this case, dismissing any legal provisions cited by Esther’s counsel as irrelevant to her case.

In its final decision, the court declared: “We are therefore not satisfied that the interested party has made out a good case to persuade this court to exercise its discretion to stay the ex*****on of the judgement pending appeal. The interested party has not advanced good grounds, let alone special circumstances, to warrant this court to exercise its discretion to grant a stay of ex*****on of the judgement dated September 27, 2024, pending the hearing and determination of the appeal. This application is consequently declined.”

A Bond of Deceit: A True Story of Friendship and Betrayal

In the music industry, I formed a close bond with Osward Chiti, whom I considered an elder brother, and his wife, KAY FIGO , a legendary musician. Our friendship grew through collaborations and shared successes. Osward helped me in many ways, from life advice to filming projects. I also shot music videos for him and His Wife Kay Figo

At some Point when i was so broke, I decided to sell my Toyota Mark X (Reg. ACX 5815) for K80,000,so i can buy a small car and put it yango to support my family and mostly my Son, so I asked Osward to help find a buyer. He promised to assist and took the car, saying he'd bring a buyer to me. However, after some days I spotted my car with another person, and Osward claimed he was also in the car, but I hadn't seen him.

Days later,I bumped into the same guy,I approached the same stranger, who revealed he bought the car from Osward. I called Osward, asking why he sold the car without my consent for i told him to bring me a buyer. He made excuses: like funeral expenses, borrowing money, and promised to pay me. But later he disappeared, and his phone went off for weeks

I contacted Kay Figo, who claimed ignorance of Osward's whereabouts and said he only calls her from a strange number to check on the kids. I asked her to tell Osward I needed my car or the money, as the situation was getting out of hand.

Osward later called from a different number, claiming he hadn't run away and was working at the copperbelt mine. He borrowed the number from his co-Worker to call me. However, I discovered the number was registered under Kay Figo's name, revealing their deception.

Disappointed, I involved our music industry sponsor Then, Mr. Kalandanya, who contacted Kay and condemned Osward's actions. Kay Figo apologized and promised to help me get the money. Recordings of our conversations exposed their web of lies.

I told Fellow few musicians about it and they expressed solidarity. Even Osward's close friends confirmed his problematic behavior, stating he had "crooked" many people. One friend warned me, "Osward is a problem, be careful."

During our conversations, Osward arrogantly said, "Even if you go to the police, nothing will happen. You're just wasting your time." His words revealed his disregard for the law and his victims.

A close friend of mine and kay’s too concerned about my situation, called Kay Figo to clarify the issue but Kay's response was shocking: ati "He's just stupid, and it's not true." Her dismissive tone and refusal to acknowledge the truth hurt, considering our close friendship.

I reported the incident to Central Police twice and involved the Anti-Theft Unit but nothing Happened

until Osward's arrest for unrelated claims brought hope to me which i also went to Central police again to add a Case on him again nothing happened until i saw him being released which crushed me.

Today, I still seek recovery of my stolen vehicle, accountability for Osward's actions, and protection from further exploitation. The ordeal drained me financially, emotionally, coz i totally had nothing on me and nearly led me to su***de but for the love i have for my Family Mostly my Son made me think twice

By sharing my story, I hope to recover my stolen vehicle, hold Osward accountable, and protect others from similar exploitation….i Have almost every recording of the conversations we had

This experience has taught me to be cautious and vigilant, even among friends….Im just a young man tryna feed my family through my hard work and not steal from people

Sincerely Samson Lungu A.K.A Director Sammie Dee
