KAMFINSA MP CHRISTOPHER KANG'OMBE LEAVES CONSTITUENCY IN DARKNESS TO BAIL FRIEND

Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang'ombe is under fire for prioritizing the bail of his friend, Hon Binwell Mpundu NKANA MP, over addressing the ongoing electricity crisis in his constituency. Mpundu, arrested for promoting seditious practices, was bailed out with the MP standing as surety in Lusaka, while residents in Ndeke and other wards endured five days of power outages.

The electricity crisis has left households and businesses in despair, with Zesco Limited providing no warning or updates regarding the prolonged blackout. Frustrated residents of Changa Changa in Ndeke Constituency have attempted to engage both MP Christopher Kang’ombe and Councilor Davies Kasengele for assistance, but their pleas have been met with silence. Instead, Councilor Kasengele responded by issuing a petition form for residents to fill and deliver to ZESCO themselves—a move residents found dismissive of their concerns.

While ZESCO eventually dispatched a technical team to address the issue, their efforts quickly deteriorated into negligence. Residents report that the team spent the afternoon drinking at a local bar in Changa Changa, claiming they were waiting for supplies from Lusaka. After leaving at 3 PM, they never returned to complete the repairs.

Attempts to escalate the matter through ZESCO's call center yielded no results. Residents were informed that no faults had been logged in the area, despite numerous complaints made via USSD and phone calls. This apparent lack of communication and accountability has further fueled outrage among the affected communities.

Adding to the frustration, MP Kang’ombe actively updated his Facebook followers about his Lusaka trip while failing to acknowledge or address the crisis back home. Many residents view his actions as a betrayal of their trust and a disregard for the responsibilities he was elected to fulfill.

The ongoing crisis has exposed what many believe to be a lack of leadership and commitment from both ZESCO and the constituency’s elected officials. Residents have voiced their disappointment and called for immediate action to resolve the electricity crisis and restore a sense of accountability among their leaders.

The Limpopo Department of Health says two nurses were raped while working the night shift at Ga-Chuene clinic outside Polokwane.
