UNLAWFUL TREATMENT AND ARROGANCE OF TRAFFIC POLICE IN KITWE MUST END
UNLAWFUL TREATMENT AND ARROGANCE OF TRAFFIC POLICE IN KITWE MUST END.
Owning a car in the Copperbelt has unfortunately become synonymous with harassment and unlawful treatment by traffic police officers. These officers, who should be enforcing the law with professionalism and respect for human rights, are instead treating residents like criminals for basic traffic offenses.
We understand that unlawful mistakes happen—driving without a license, expired fitness certificates, unpaid tax, or pirating are violations, but they are not criminal acts. Yet, in Kitwe, traffic offenders are dragged out of cars, beaten, and humiliated. This is beyond the law and a gross violation of human rights.
What’s even more concerning is the silence from those in authority. Videos exposing these behaviors have been shared across social media platforms, tagging key authorities like RTSA, the Minister of Home Affairs, and even the President. Still, nothing has been done. Are these videos falling on deaf ears? Has the suffering of the Copperbelt residents become a joke?
To the Minister of Home Affairs Jack Mwiimbu and Ask RTSA, we appeal to you:
Stop ignoring the cries of the people.
Enforce the law within the boundaries of human rights.
Introduce warnings, citations, and education instead of brutality.
History has shown that neglecting the voices of the people leads to a government’s downfall. The people of Zambia deserve respect and fairness, not mistreatment for merely owning a vehicle.
Dear Mr. Hakainde Hichilema Sir with all due respect and honor, This is not just a plea—it’s a demand for justice, accountability, and humanity.
We refuse to be treated like criminals. Copperbelt residents deserve better.

KITWE TRAFFIC OFFICERS IN BRUTALITY ACT 17/12/2024
KITWE TRAFFIC POLICE BEHAVIOR IS UNACCEPTABLE AND UNLAWFUL
17/12/2024
Dear Mr. President Sir Hakainde Hichilema with respect and honor to you.
The mistreatment and arrogance of traffic police officers in Kitwe have reached alarming levels. As residents of the Copperbelt, we are tired of being treated like criminals for simply owning a vehicle. The way traffic offenses are being handled is beyond the law and human rights standards. People are dragged out of their cars, manhandled, beaten, and humiliated over traffic violations—something that is unacceptable in any civilized society.
Yes, as Zambians, we acknowledge that mistakes happen on the roads—driving without a license, expired insurance, fitness, or even pirating—but these are not criminal offenses. They are violations that should be met with citations, education, or proper lawful action, not brutality. Instead of teaching drivers to do the right thing, officers are quick to resort to force and intimidation, forgetting the mandate they swore to uphold.
Many videos of this unacceptable behavior are circulating online, tagging RTSA, the Minister of Home Affairs, and even the President, yet no action has been taken. Are these cries falling on deaf ears? Have these injustices become a laughing matter to those in power?
Let us remind the government that neglecting the cries of its people was one of the major reasons the PF administration lost power. Disregarding humanity and treating citizens without respect is a sure pathway to downfall.
We appeal to Ask RTSA and the Minister of Home Affairs Jack Mwiimbu to address this matter urgently. The people of the Copperbelt should not be treated like animals for owning vehicles. It is time for action, accountability, and reform within the traffic police system.
To the authorities: We are watching. The nation is watching.
