BRAVE SICKLE CELL PATIENT MUBANGA PHIRI D!ES
Mubanga Eugenia Mwamba Phiri (Mrs. Phiri) was born on 31st July, 1970 with Sickle Cell Anemia (full blown).
The expectation was that she would not live long but she beat all the odds and lived till the age of 53.
She unfortunately transitioned on Wednesday 11th October, 2023 at the UTH after suffering one of her usual attacks.
Mrs. Phiri got married in 1995 and she was able to give birth to two children, a girl and a boy who are aged 18 and 16 respectively.
Obviously being married was a milestone in her life let alone giving birth to two healthy children. Her husband and two children survive her.
She was an accomplished internal auditor in the civil service where she worked since 1993 in different ministries.
Her employers and co-workers recall her as a dedicated professional who did not use her condition as an excuse not to deliver on the job.
Mrs. Phiri was a happy soul who treated each day lived as a gift from God. She did not complain at all even on the days when she was in pain.
She moved about with a very infectious smile all the time and she believed in spreading joy and merry every where she went.
She made sure she lived a full life regardless of her condition.
She was put to rest on Saturday 14th October, 2023 at Lusaka memorial park with her requiem mass preceeding the ceremony at St. Ignatius Catholic church.
Huge numbers turned up to bid farewell to this galant woman whose life remains a miracle to this date.
Secretary to the Cabinet Mr. Patrick Kangwa who led scores of civil servants to put their collegue to rest described Mrs. Phiri as a true professional.
May her soul find eternal rest....
