The Timber Producers Association of Zambia (TPAZ) president Mr. CHARLES MASANGE has congratulated president HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and the minister of finance honorable SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE on the great achievement of implementing the policy of exporters’ declaration of their invoices and deposit slips to the bank of Zambia.
Mr. Masange has said that this is one of the best solutions that will control the economy of the country because no one will dictate prices of any extractive commodities in our country.
The association president has further stated that since 1991 when the late former president Fredrick chiluba signed the liberal policy, Zambia has been losing revenue and the implementation of this policy will see change and the country’s economy will normalize.

He added that the association has been advocating for the same policy in order to safe guard the country’s revenue and its implementation has come at the right time.
He has further said that the country should have reserved prices for the commodities and no one should come and dictate prices as this will enhance traceability, monitoring and control.
He has stated that with this policy, every commodity leaving the country will benefit the Zambians and the country as a whole.
He has further appealed to the ministries of finance, commerce and green economy to work hand in hand and see to it that all the processes involved are followed.

The Kawambwa district youth network chairperson Mr Jordan mulunga says the increase in the prices of commodities is because of the factors affecting the business community.
Mr. mulunga stated that looking at the season, there are some industries who have gone on industrial break and such reduce the productivity rate of some certain commodities while the demand for the same products remains the same.
The chairperson highlighted that this factor influences both the commercial and local proprietors to also increase their prices so as to attain a minimum profit from their businesses.
He further disclosed that in the recent past years, the prices of goods on the Zambian market were equal to the ‘needs of the communities as compared to the current one because the rate at which the manufactures increase prices on their commodities now, is a bit high as compared to the previous years.
Mr. Mulunga also said that even if the fuel prices might be maintained and stable, it is difficult to maintain the prices of goods and services because of the distances that are being covered by the transporters who bring goods to kawambwa from Lusaka and other area where these commodities are manufactured
The chairperson also mentioned that the inflation rate and the increase in wages, taxes and money supply also contribute to the escalating prices of commodities on the market.
This came to light during the lukwanga radios breakfast show that was conducted this morning.

FOLLOWING the outbreak of cholera, government has announced that all schools will remain closed for three weeks.
Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima made the announcement this morning stating that the decision follows a meeting by a National Disaster Management and Mitigation Council of Ministers.
He said all public, private, aided and community learning institutions such as early childhood education centres, primary and secondary schools will remain closed for a further three weeks after the official opening date of January 8.
Mr. Syakalima then clarified that schools will only open on Monday, 29th January, 2024. And that the grace period which was earlier given to grades eight and 10 learners has now been overtaken and all learners are expected to open on 29th January, 2024.
The honourable misister said in order to catch up on the time lost, the first term holidays will only run for one week instead of four weeks, which implies that schools will close for term one on 26th April instead of 5th April, 2024, and open for term two as scheduled on May 6, 2024.
The Minister advised parents and guardians to ensure that they prepare their children for term two even before term one closes, in view of the short holiday time.
He further said during the prolonged closure, all learning institutions should be thoroughly cleaned up, have clean water and sanitation facilities, adequate hand washing points, detergents and disinfectants in addition to the provisions of the preventive guidelines already in schools.
He said in order to keep the learners busy during this extended closure, parents and guardians are encouraged to allow their children to make use of the available alternative modes of learning provided by the ministry, such as Zambia national broadcasting cooperation (ZNBC) Television on Edu TV channel, Internet based platform on learning passport and notes master.
