We have replaced the anointing of God with social media popularity.

One of the most disheartening things I have seen and yet it is so unbelievably prevalent in the modern day Church system is the widespread practice of pastors sweetening up to social media influencers who have big followings and then parading them through their churches and demanding they be honored— treating them as though because they have many YouTube subscribers and some influence that somehow it equates to them having Holy Ghost unction and an authentic God-given anointing on their life.

The truth is, I actually see exponentially more hearts-on-fire, Holy Spirit-filled preachers of the gospel on citystreet corners and at public train stations than I do in these fancy, room-filled meetings.

Search your own souls, Christian leaders.

A world of honoring, and to be honored. That’s the realm where hearts and true intentions are found.

Today’s Christianity is so full of clout chasers, men desperate for notoriety and reputation, hearts burning not for the things of God from within, but instead that they might stand before big crowds and reap fancy things.

Deceiving their own selves, they become as foolish blind men. They will have their reward.

Men who would eagerly travel the world over to be honored by big men with big names in big churches, looking down over the thousands from the giant elevated stages and powerful looking pulpits.

When did men of God stop serving others? When did it become all about the performances on stage? When did it turn into a bunch of good ole boys with fat pockets desperate for validation and recognition from the world and each other?

They demand we empty our pockets amidst thunderous applause as they exit stage left beyond the curtains of accountability.

We have turned slick-speaking men of God into idolic figures to be worshipped instead of holding them accountable as ministers of the gospel, called to serve with selfless, sacrificial love and a heart of
