Pray Honestly

Are you honest with God when you pray? Many people struggle to be completely honest with Him. They choose the things they pray about, hide certain sins, and confess others that are not so embarrassing.

But the Scriptures say we don't need to clean up our lives before we come to God. It was He who created us and knows everything about us. Therefore, there is nothing we can hide from Him. He already knows our innermost thoughts and desires.

The writer of Psalm 139 prays that God will search his heart and mind and bring to the surface anything he doesn't already know that is hidden beneath his surface. This is a prayer we are all invited to pray.

We cannot be cured of the things we try to hide. To experience God's grace and mercy, we must bring all things to Him. And when He probes us and brings things to mind, God is inviting us to humbly confess them to Him.

This prayer from Psalm 139 is an open and honest plea for God to continue to purify and sanctify our hearts. God can handle our heavier side and He is not surprised by what happens in our thoughts.
Honesty before God is the only way we can become the people He wants us to be. We should not grow in our spiritual life by hiding secrets or keeping our thoughts from God.

So take a moment today to make Psalm 139 your prayer. Ask God to search his heart and see if there is anything hidden that you are unaware of. When He brings something up, take it to Him and ask for forgiveness. Ask for the power of His Spirit to lead and guide you through this time.

God is faithful and merciful to continue to love us despite our failures and will continue to walk and lead you to eternal life with Him.
