HTS BLACK STUDENTS ASSAULTED AND CALLED RACIST WORDS AT GIMNASIUM HIGH SCHOOL
SASOLBURG - Following an alleged assault on one of it's student at a rugby match held at Gimnasium high school, in Vereeniging, HTS Sasolburg launched it's own investigation into the incident. Khotso Kompe, a grade 9 pupil at HTS Sasolburg, was assaulted by two white first team boys from Gemnasium High School.
According to the school, a few incidents happened throughout the day between the players, coaches and even parents.
In it's report, the school says there were incidents of coaches and parents shouting derogatory names and the calling out of racist words to it's black students.
HTS point of view on the fight is that: "Vereeniging Gimnasium won all 5 games, after the first team match. While they do this, they have a bell that they sound by their mascot to show that they have won the match. While the mascot was sounding the bell, a group of HTS players went to the mascot to ask him not to sound the bell as loud, as they wanted to hear the war-cry better, because throughout the day, the war-cries from both schools were done and it happened in good spirits between the two schools. Nothing happened at that moment of time, but it suddenly escalated to a free for all fight."
" There was no need for Gimnasium boys to start a fist fight or use racial remarks against the HTS Sasolburg players who just wanted to hear the war-cry clearly, and for two first team players to team up against one against one under 15 boy."
Another HTS learner was struck by a Gimnasium high school coach.
