PRUDENCE SEKGODISO AND AKANI SIMBINE GEAR UP FOR DIAMOND LEAGUE FINAL

Experienced sprinter Akani Simbine and rising middle-distance star Prudence Sekgodiso will hope to close out their top-flight seasons in style when they line up in the Diamond League Final in Brussels this weekend.
The only South African athletes in the entry lists for the two-day event, Simbine and Sekgodiso will both compete on Friday.

South Africa have returned to the top of the podium! 🥇🇿🇦

Simone Kruger has set a Paralympic record to win the women's F38 discus throw gold medal at the Paris Games.

That is South Africa's fifth medal of the Games, and the nation's third medal in athletics.

BAYANDA WALAZA PLANS TO STAY IN PRETORIA AND STICK WITH WHAT’S WORKING

Junior sprint sensation Bayanda Walaza says he won’t be changing any more than he needs to next year.

The 18-year-old sprinter will stay with coach Thabo Matebedi while studying at Tuks, and he has no plans to adjust his unique technique.

SA JUNIOR TEAM CLOSE CAMPAIGN WITH SEVEN MEDALS IN PERU

Closing out a superb campaign in spectacular fashion, the South African team bagged two more medals on the fifth and final day of the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru in the early hours of this morning.

The national men’s 4x400m relay quartet earned silver and 400m hurdler Hannah van Niekerk bagged bronze, lifting the team’s overall tally to seven medals.

BAYANDA WALAZA WINS HISTORIC SPRINT DOUBLE TO RAISE SA TEAM'S MEDAL TALLY

Wrapping up a spectacular season, junior sprint sensation Bayanda Walaza delivered a historic performance in the early hours of this morning, raking in South Africa’s fifth medal at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Peru.

Walaza, who won gold in the 100m event two days earlier, added the 200m title by storming to victory in the final in 20.52 seconds.

UDEME OKON WINS GOLD AS SOUTH AFRICA CLIMB TO SECOND IN MEDALS TABLE

South Africa continued to climb the medals table, with sprinter Udeme Okon storming to gold in the men’s 400m final at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru in the early hours of this morning.

Having focussed on athletics for the first time this season, Okon was rewarded for his efforts as he claimed a convincing victory in 45.69 seconds.

Bayanda Walaza is unstoppable!

He wins his 200m semifinal in 21.00 at the World Athletics U20 Championships.

Walaza progresses as the favourite to the final, to be held at 1.47am tomorrow morning, as he sets his sights on a 100m/200m double.

Chane Vermeulen finishes third in her heat in 23.78, missing out on a spot in the women's 200m final by just 0.08.

Bayanda Walaza! 🇿🇦 🔥

After winning gold in the 100m final, Walaza has coasted to victory in his first-round 200m heat in 21.16 at the World Athletics U20 Championships.

He will be back on the track at 12.10am tomorrow morning for the semifinals.

Bertie Cruywagen was fourth in his 200m heat in 21.64, missing out on a place in the semifinals by 0.11.

Easy does it!

Temoso Masikane lands at 7.87m with his second attempt in the long jump qualifying round at the World Athletics U20 Championships.

He sails beyond the automatic qualifying mark of 7.75m, and Masikane will be back in action in the final at 12.20am on Saturday morning (SA time).

Great run by Chane Vermeulen!

She keeps her hopes alive in the 200m event at the World Athletics U20 Championships, taking second place in her heat in 23.73.

Vermeulen will line up again in the semifinals later tonight (11.50pm).

Viwe Jingqi, who finished fifth in the 100m final, did not start her first-round heat over the 200m distance.
