How’s this refreshed new look from Van Loveren Family Vineyards ? A premium conservation range from this Robertson Wine Valley producer.

Rhino Run Wine’s new label has adopted a range of new devices. The main motif incorporates an adult and young rhino surrounded by typical flora and fauna from the animals’ environment, many of which form part of the rhino’s diet in the bush. The meticulous hand-drawn illustrations reflect the judicious care with which the wine is made.

Being invested in the preservation of natural heritage, has long been involved with conservation, including projects such as the Rhino Run.

Did you know? A percentage of every bottle of Rhino Run sold is donated to conservation and anti-poaching initiatives with the main beneficiary being SANParks.

The Rhino Run portfolio currently comprises of three wines. There are two organic wines, a red blend and a Chenin Blanc, as well as a naturally preserved (no sulphur added) Pinotage. A naturally preserved (no sulphur added) Chardonnay will be launched within the Rhino Run range in 2024.

Through being farmed organically, Rhino Run wines reinforces the message of environmental sustainability, the preservation of biodiversity, and the production of wines that are made as naturally as possible. The result is a more natural and authentic expression of the terroir that gave rise to the wines.

The Rhino Run - A lightly wooded, medium bodied dry white wine, created to honor the White Rhino. With aromas of peaches & floral notes that linger gently on the palate.

The Red Blend - Full-bodied. Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot Blend
Elegant Christmas pudding & to***co notes come from 8 months maturation in 100% French oak staves. Aromas of cigar box, dark chocolate, eucalyptus & mint. Smooth & complex full-bodied red.

The Glenwood Grand Duc - part of top range of wines that reflect the noble heritage of this Franschhoek estate.

Whole-bunch pressed & fermented using wild yeast then spending 20 months on the lees in 100% new 500L French oak barrels.

Winemaker at GlenWood Vineyards, Natasha Pretorius describes this wine as yellow straw in colour. With rich vanilla & ripe pineapple. It is full & creamy on the palate with a vanilla toasty note from gentle use of oak. Following ok the aftertaste with marmalade & citrus notes. A complex wine that will pair well with creamy or spicy dishes & excels with any seafood dish.

A rather limited production of only 3,000 bottles produced, but will be drinking through to 2030.

Cheers to ✨

The Vigneron, or “wine-grower” in French, DP Burger, is also the cellar master & knows every vine, was closely involved when it came to only selecting the best grapes for the Vigneron’s Selection 2023. Truly a handcrafted work of ‘art. (I mean, if you’ve been involved on the estate for over 30 years, you’re definitely in the best position to do this.)

With 9 months on the lees in 30% new French oak & 70% 2nd & 3rd fill barrels. A magnificent yellow straw colour with subdued aromas of tropical fruits & vanilla. A creamy palate with prominent citrus flavours & dried orange peel on the aftertaste.

A rich & nutty wine from GlenWood Vineyards with a lengthy & refined steely minerality in the finish.

Cheers to

Delheim Wines - 2021 Wild Ferment

Hand-picked early in the cool morning from the oldest block of Chenin Blanc vineyards on Delheim. Planted back in 1986 - a Certified Heritage Wine with the Old Vine Association in South Africa.

Barrel & concrete egg-shaped tanks is where spontaneous fermentation is allowed to take place. No commercial yeast is used, which allows the wine to tell its own story and more importantly that of terroir.

Left on its fine lees for 9 months after fermentation, followed by a light filtration before being bottled. Only to be matured another year in the bottle before being sold.

A complex array of wild fermentation characteristics are ever present in this edition of the Delheim Wild Ferment. Vibrant straw colour with a green hue in the glass. On the nose; dominant fragrances of stone fruits & orange peel with subtle notes of honey suckle. On the palate; harmonious vibrant fruit with plentiful mouth-feel & a lasting finish on the palate.

A beautiful portrayal of how the vineyards, minimal intervention winemaking & Mother Nature come together.

continues! Opening a De Grendel 2020 Koetshuis ✨

Names as such, because grapes used to make this wine are grown in the vineyard that sprawls out right next to the old ‘koetshuis’, where the wagons of days gone by were once kept.

Celebrating the ! The La Motte 2023 Vin de Joie has something about it that will have you reminiscing about times gone by & you’ll find yourself smiling, savouring in those memories.

Celebrating the estate’s French-heritage with the 3rd vintage, this Provençal-style Rosé is delicate, elegant & a popular wine that promises to bring joy! Be it in the form of a simple pleasure or social merriment, sip on a glass of Vin de Joie Rosé while enjoying those perfect ; a day by the pool, followed by a Watermelon & Feta salad, celebrating with loved ones.

The Vin de Joie is a true celebration of South African terroir & its diversity.

78% Grenache (Swartland & Stellenbosch)
15% Mourvèdre (Franschhoek)
6% Syrah (Elim)
1% Cinsault (Franschhoek)

Offering a delicate salmon pink with a tinge of onion skin, which is typical of a Mediterranean-style rosé.

A combination of inspiration from the JAN 2023 Journal & some Dutch courage, I paired the 2023 Vin de Joie Rosé with a Watermelon & Feta Salad after a hot day in & around the pool.

The nose is slightly restrained, but offers well-defined melon, grapefruit & nectarine. Also identify playful candyfloss in the young wine. The palate is polished & juicy on entry, with a refreshing acidity & lovely lingering nectarine on the aftertaste.

Cap Classique is synonymous with a celebration. Usually poured when an occasion needs to be toasted. (For me, the fact that I’ve got bubbly in the fridge is reason & occasion enough for celebration.)

Cap Classique, or previously known as Méthode Cap Classique has been produced in South Africa for over 50 years and there are some producers that have gotten it right.

For Valentines Day I sipped on the Stellenview Premium Wines - Kruger Family Reserve Cap Classique, named after founder, Reino Kruger’s daughter - Marguerite. (The 2019 is their maiden vintage of the bubbly, so it’s got a bit of age on it, that I really like.)

A very elegant Cap Classique - The Marguerite is a blend of Chardonnay (81%) & Pinot Noir (19%). A light golden hue & delicate mousse. Subtle white pear notes with delectable biscotti flavours that coats the palate. Being slightly aged, theres a gentle nuttiness that’s developing. A rather refined, yet complex texture that is balanced with a gentle acidity, contributing to its length & finesse.

A Cap Classique for any occasion.

Last launched in 1993, Blaauwklippen Vineyards recently relaunched their much-loved Chardonnay with a 2022 vintage.

Grapes sourced from vineyards on decomposed granite soils in the Blaauwklippen valley & the Helderberg region. The farm has rich & fertile soils, hailed from grey-blue decomposed granite deposited against the mountain slopes.

Narina Cloete has been the winemaker at Blaauwklippen since June 2016 & loves expressing her creative side through winemaking. Striving to create wines that express the terroir of the vines & to give consumer the chance to experience ‘Stellenbosch’ in a glass.

Ageing in French oak barrels doing their thing & leaving you with rich citrus, orange blossom & yellow flower aromas, merging with nuances of yellow peach & Crème Brûlée.

The fresh acidity on the Blaauwklippen 2022 combines with the rich & creamy mid-palate to finish with a lingering mineral core. A divine wine that’s going down well with a fresh pizza or even own it’s own.

‼️Announcing the Spice Route Journey Wine Range from Spice Route Wines‼️

New labels with neutral slightly old-school cartographic hues that encompass Spice Route’s ventures into new wine regions.

Three wines in the range have already been released:
- Sauvignon Blanc 2023 from Darling
A cool climate with tropical & stone fruits.
- Chenin Blanc 2023 from Paarl
Generous aromas of Guava & Passion Fruit with a moreish finish.
- Provence-style Rosé 2023 from a Grenache Noir vineyard in Darling.
Light, fresh & delicate. Strawberries, rose petals & candy floss intertwined with a lingering finish.

4 additional wines to joint the range soon; a Pinotage, Grenache, Mourvèdre and a red blend.

Back in the day, mariners would travel to far away places & exotic lands in search of all things interesting & different; specifically spices. Fast forward a few hundred years and you’ll find yourself at Spice Route Paarl, a mere 45 min drive from Cape Town.

A destination that has become home to Spice Route Wines & a few very unique & handpicked artisanal residents - several restaurants, a gin distillery, a chocolatier & even an eclectic decor & gift shop.

A story for every bottle of wine! I think part of the great success behind Muratie Wine Estate, is that there is an incredible story about a larger than life personality that accompanies the name on each bottle.

Honouring their history & keep it alive in the wines & estate culture. Every wine in the Muratie range is named after a person who played an important role in the story of the farm, which dates back more than three centuries to 1685.

From a German Soldier - Laurens Campher & his beloved Ansela van de Caab to Artist - George Paul Canitz & winemaker Ben Prins aka Barefoot Ben & the Melck’s - Martin & Ronnie.

A visit to this wine estate along the Stellenbosch Wine Routes, taking a step back in time & a sit down with with current custodian Rijk Melck - a story teller of note. Explaining the intricacies of each wine & how it links back to the colourful character it is named after.

“Drinking good wine with good food in good company is one of life’s most civilized pleasures.” - Michael Broadbent

A visit to Muratie Wine Estate proved that it’s the perfect place for just that! It’s an experience that is difficult to describe, but the euphoria I still feel when thinking back on sitting in the dining room having breakfast & lunch, tasting wines with Rijk Melck is enough to leave me in a happy place.

A simple & uncomplicated menu, that reminds you of home. With rich homely foods, accompanied by heritage rich wines, you’ll end up leaving feeling richer in every sense!

Blaauwklippen Vineyards - Small Plate Lunch with Wine & a touch of Art! A favourite pit stop enroute to the airport after a visit!

Small plates paired alongside the latest releases is a great way to indulge & fully explore what this Stellenbosch Wine Routes estate has on offer.

Seasonal wine pairings take place in the Tasting House, which has a beautiful homely feel, surrounded by an array of art from local artists. The Tasting House adds another element to the experience with the art gallery in collaboration with renowned curator Ilse Schermers- Griesel of IS Art.

An experience that ticks off something for all the senses. The estate has a very rich heritage, almost as rich as their soils. Enabling the production of a selection of premium wines.

Always start the day off with a bubbly! The is rather unique & is 100% . Delicate rose petal & nectarine nuances leads to hints of orange blossom, strawberries & lemons. A fine mousse with mineral notes & creamy brioche core. Finishing with juicy freshness & finesse.

Stand out wines of the day - the 2019 ; ripe red fruits & cassis with subtle floral notes. Velvety tannins with a bold aromatic finish.

Ending off the tasting with one of their specialities - the Before & After Apéretif - A blend of wood matured red Noble Late Harvest & . A mouthful of everything Christmas!
