YAYA MAVUNDLA DISRUPTS ERASURE THROUGH ART IN CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S MONTH IN SOUTH AFRICA

“Renowned South African transgender activist presents the Black, Trans & Bold exhibition at the historical Women’s Jail, Constitution Hill to disrupt erasure and celebrate Transgender women for their bravery, boldness, resilience, and excellence. The exhibition opens on the South Africa’s national Women’s Day, 09 August until 31 August 2023.
Yaya Mavundla, a multi-award-winning transgender activist, disruptor and multi-disciplinary artist, who recently caused a social media stair as her images headlined Zanele Muholi’s exhibition in Lizern, Switzerland and used around the city on billboards returns in South Africa to presents her debut exhibition of her paintings, a solo show titled Black, Trans & Bold. Mavundla’s first-ever series of paintings are interpreted from her historical images meant to erase the oppression of transgender women that they find themselves facing from time to time, and to celebrate their strength, resilience & boldness through art during South African Women’s Month.”

“This is the final article in the For the Love of It series and we will be looking at s*x toys and s*xual injuries – two not always unrelated subjects. Yet, these two subjects offer encouragement to explore our s*xualities but to do so responsibly and with care. You have probably already had your own encounters with s*x toys. The s*x toys market size is valued by Grandview research at $32.7 billion in 2022 – it has exploded over recent years. It is humanity at play and attitudes towards s*x toys have changed vastly over the past couple of decades as well. S*x toys have at first been seen as a taboo, but along with p**n, attitudes towards s*x toys have shifted from a taboo to permissible and from initially being seen as the recourse of the single person to being a feature of normal s*x lives of people of all s*xual orientations and genders. Just the range of s*x toys are incredible. In this article we will be covering the basic types before looking at a few of the most common and general s*xual injuries. “Hello and welcome to Purple-Fly. Mahn, I'm so excited to share with you what I've been up to.
Ever since I discovered that I am gender fluid, back in December of 2020, I just felt it only fair to allow the portions of myself, those parts I had to hide and forget about, to come to live. Those childhood dreams and curiosities that are still relevant, I'm going after.
I had a flashback, getting caught by an older sibling, wearing their sash and tiara, and the words they uttered were: "As enige van my broers gay uit draai, ontken ek hom," I was probably 6 years old. See, I had a valid reason to forget the little girl inside of me. I remembered watching Miss SA and any other pageant I could watch with my grandmother… I'd fantasize about modelling and what it must feel like to win, wondering if I could ever have the confidence and courage. I started watching Ru-Paul's Productions and the longing to perform, model and create was revived. “

“I do not see myself as a victim, but as a survivor. I share my story to inspire and shed light on the realities of being an LGBTQIA+ migrant in South Africa. Ultimately, the system failed me, as it has many before me and continues to do so. It is common to hear stories about hate crime and the tragic demise of LGBTIA+ persons who lost their lives because of their gender identity, s*xual orientation and s*x characteristics. Unfortunately, the most improvised LGBTQIA+ persons are most affected and are slain like sheep.
The adversities I have experienced privately and publicly will not stop me from creating awareness and advocating for LGBTQIA+ human rights. As I move forward, I aim to rebuild my identity. I pray for safety, love, peace, and joy.
I am a proud, flamboyant gay man, limitless, unique, and unapologetically living as their authentic self. Something that is deeply a part of you cannot be easily shaken off of you. Now, I have the opportunity to start again, live again, to love and be loved in return. Hopefully, someday I will marry someone of my choice, support my community, and show others that embracing yourself is the greatest way to see the value of who truly is. BE YOU, BEYOND DREAMS.”

MON-D MOTADI: Chasing Dreams, the Q***r Superhero way!
“Let’s talk superheroes! No, I don’t mean the cape and costume-wearing ones who fly around saving babies from burning buildings. Let’s rather talk about the very real heroes, icons and legends in our communities or streets today. What pushes these heroines to rise from civilian to greatness? What drives and shields them from villains while changing the world around them to reflect their mission? The q***r community has produced many of these “ordinary heroes” who come in all shapes and sizes to save the world; and with April being a month celebrating freedom in South Africa, we think it’s only fitting to profile some of our own communities’ heroes who work to liberate q***r people in their work.
One such hero is the multi-dimensional, talented actor/presenter, musician, entrepreneur, and filmmaker – Raymond “Mon-D” Motadi, who is a perfect example of what a q***r superhero looks like for many in the community. We had the privilege to speak with the 27 year-old star about their new work, and what makes them such a force to be reckoned with both in entertainment as well as his life’s work; and this is what he had to say.”

“Personally, the highlight of the night was definitely the educational element of the event. From the architectural elements of the venue like having gender neutral restrooms, the couch and bean bag chill area which was elevated and secluded from the rest of the venue, allowing you to choose your preferred vibe. The messaging that emphasized the importance of respecting each other, be it our boundaries or our pronouns and most importantly the lesson of self-love, authenticity, confidence and lastly the spirit of community and allyship. “When I finished writing the books, I felt sad and depressed, realising how much I was battered into submission by the bullies and society. Thankfully, I lived to tell my tale while many of my brothers and sisters fell under the weight of a harsh and unbending society.
For those who did their best to stifle my gay urges, human desires and natural instincts, I never fought back and in hindsight, I chose reading to keep myself from falling apart, and never did I imagine that my story would one day be read by friends and strangers. Isolating myself from the harsh and horrible surroundings, I let my mind travel and can honestly say I am happy with the journey that made me the person I am today. “

“This article is extensive and we’ve come far to be here, at the more salty and saucy and spicy end of things: oral s*x – by which I mean not only bl****bs but also ri***ng or “ass-eating.” If the latter subjects are distasteful to you, do leave us, but there is a joy and pleasure to be had in it available to everybody with a partner and a lover and I sincerely doubt it is seen on high as sinful, animalistic and base. I will try to convene some of the “meaning” of these acts first.
Sensual Animal and Meaningful Intimate Oral S*x: All oral s*x can be about sheer animal sensual or s*xual pleasure alone, but it can in addition also be about fully tasting and savouring your lover and partner and knowing them in a most personal and intimate manner. Oral s*x is indeed often also driven by raw animal lust (and all the more so especially if and when conducted with strangers and barely known persons during which the depth of meaningful knowing is perhaps diminished), while the latter sense of “knowing” your lover is increased and heightened when oral s*x is performed with a regular and only partner and lover in other words in a monogamous relationship. (*See Note). But let’s rather get technical and leave the opening of a moral debate by the latter considerations in check. “

“Estimation of the Mouth and its Importance in Erotic Play, Foreplay and S*x
The mouth: perhaps the most erotic of all body parts except the ge****ls. It has a crucial role in making out and foreplay leading up to as well as during s*x – and all of these procedures usually start with a kiss. The opening to foreplay and s*x might all involve touching, spoken words and a host of non-verbal signals involving the eyes and body language, but it almost certainly will either be accompanied or will soon be joined by kissing and erotic tasting and even biting or nibbling. It often proceeds to evolve into oral s*x or to result in s*x acts which include oral s*x. And a kiss might very well also end these matters and become the final act in the process of lo******ng or s*x, the concluding gesture meaning or saying “Thank you.” All of these facts emphasise the importance of the mouth in erotic physicality, in human s*xual behaviour and s*x acts – and the mouth, or use of the mouth in erotic and s*x acts, kissing and oral s*x are the subjects of this instalment of For the Love of It (Part 4).”

THE ART OF LOVE WITH BOTSHELO & BUHLEBENDALO (@BUHLEBENDALOMDA) and Botshelo (@BEESONTHECOUCH) @soft_pantsula @soilsista @beesonthecouch “The pair met thirteen years ago, while Botshelo was a fine art student and Buhlebendalo would visit their campus to take part in what was known back then as “cyphers”, as part of The Soil. Luphindo Ngxanga aka Master P, who is a member of The Soil, introduced them. For Botshelo, the attraction was instant, but Buhlebendalo admits that for her it was just purely platonic. “I didn’t know B had the biggest crush on me,” she says with a giggle. It would take years before it became evident that Botshelo wanted more. “We went on double dates, with our previous partners and spent time together.” Buhlebendalo adds. When both of their relationships ended, and they were single, they started spending more time together, comforting one another over their break-ups and reconnecting as friends. “Things started very slow because we didn’t want to destroy the friendship we had. During lockdown B confessed their love for me. YAYA’S INSPIRING MULTIVERSE “For many LGBTQIA+ people, the concept of family is wrapped up in trauma and tragedy. Many LGBTQIA+ people have often found themselves without anyone to call family as they are disowned by their families, and have had to choose between familial love and being their authentic selves. For the reality star, entrepreneur and transgender rights activist, her journey of defining family has been based on love and connection and not so much biology. “For where I come from, I used to believe family is biological but I think having gone through the journey of finding my mom, does that mean I still define my family through biology, even if I don’t know what that is? Together with the stylist, they have settled on a bold aesthetic, one of the things that the 28 year-old, Johannesburg-born crooner is known for, his iconic fashion sense. There is no doubt that Langa is proud of his roots both as a proud Zulu man whose connection to his motherland, KZN, runs deep, but also as a city man who treats Johannesburg not only as his home, but as his playground. Today’s shoot is at Victoria Yards, a gentrified portion of Johannesburg CBD just a few miles from the National School of Arts, where Langa not only matriculated and got his head start in the performing arts, but also found his first love. LOUW BREYTENBACH WANTS TO CHANGE THE WORLD, AND, HE WILL… Louw Breytenbach 02 “When I finished high school there was no money for me to study further, so I took a gap year, and I wrote speeches and did drama classes for kids in the community. At first it was for me to get money for a jol and minor things but then I realised this could become a business” he shares, with a glint in his eyes. By 21, Louw had established the first community theatre in Boksburg, offering after school programmes to kids. He says it was a passion project that would keep kids busy and off the streets and all he asked from their parents were donations – from clothes, to utensils and paint – and their time. That community theatre later became known as LALT Theatre House, officially his first business. It is this very business that he ran from that age and has managed to expand that taught him the lessons he needed to learn, the same lessons that saw him question matters at the Mr Gay World organisation – questions that ultimately led to him giving up his 2021 title. “I always think of a quote by Oprah, when she says in everything you do ask yourself what is your intention. You always get pressured and stressed to make a decision – when people want an answer so quick but later it comes back to bite you in back” he reflects. He says he is never afraid of pausing to think of every opportunity and evaluating its worth – is it money or experience? That helps you make the right decision.
