Slow Down to Speed Up.

When we slow down, we actually achieve more. By focusing on one task at a time, we will improve mental clarity, increase productivity and reduce errors.

Oops! It's been a while since I last posted. I've been so focused on delivering stellar work for my clients that my own social media presence has taken a backseat. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠... your own business needs love too! 💗Even when time is limited.

I want you to do some research for me. Act as an expert social media marketer. Tell me 10 frustrations, 10 desires, and 10 fears that (add your audience) experience with their (add your field of interest). Put it in a table format label X axis 1 – 10 and Y axis frustrations, desires, fears.

In any biz, and especially as a VA, you need to nurture your relationship with your clients – here’s how I do it:

🗣️𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Each of my clients has their own way they like to communicate. Some like texting or leaving voice notes, others prefer emailing. I prioritize open and transparent communication, which also means telling clients my own preferences upfront. As someone with social anxiety, I don’t like speaking on the phone or on camera, but I am always available on WhatsApp and quick to respond.

🧏🏻‍♀️𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: I take the time to truly understand clients’ needs, concerns, and goals. I make (a lot of) notes, ask questions, and restate what I’ve understood to ensure we’re on the same page. Sometimes my clients just need a ‘soundboard’, and that’s okay too! 😊

🤝𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: I deliver high-quality work, meet deadlines, and take ownership of my tasks. If I make a mistake, I own up to it and make it right. (As an added note here – we ALL make mistakes, that’s how we learn and grow, so don’t beat yourself up, especially if you’re a perfectionist.)

🚫𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: I respect clients' time, energy, and priorities. I don't overload them with unnecessary information or requests.

🎉𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡: I take an interest in clients' businesses, industries, and goals. I celebrate their wins and offer support during challenging times.

Have you spotted the new Instagram Notes features in your DMs?

If you’re unfamiliar, Instagram Notes are short messages (up to 60 characters) you can post to followers (who you follow back) or to your “Close Friends” list. Think of them as the perfect mix – more subtle than Stories and less direct than sending a DM.

Hey fellow freelancers 🙋‍♀️

If you’re considering becoming a Social Media Virtual Assistant (SMVA), you need to have a couple of goodies in your toolbox. 🧰Here's a few that will definitely help you on your way to VA stardom. 🤩

🛠️Know your platforms – you need to have knowledge of how the ‘big five’ work: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and LinkedIn. It is rare that your client will be on ALL the platforms, but make sure that you can navigate the basics. You can always upskill later and become an expert at just one!

🧙🏼‍♀️Content creation – you need to be able to whip up eye-catching graphics, videos and captions that captivate your audience’s attention. No, you don’t need to be a graphic designer. Just bring your creativity to the Canva table and make the magic happen.

✍Copywriting – this is the more challenging part of the job because you need to write in the style of your client (not your personal style). You will have to craft compelling captions that speak directly to your client audience’s heart and maintain brand voice and tone consistency across all platforms.

💁🏻Customer service – you need to have excellent customer service to maintain a positive brand image. You should be responsive, helpful and adept at handling inquiries and complaints professionally. Engagement on socials is key! Do this efficiently and be authentic!

📊Analytics and insights – there's often some confusion between the tasks of a SMM and SMVA, and the main difference lies in the analytics. A SMM has a strong skill to interpret data and come up with new strategies. As a VA, you don’t need to be an analytics expert, but you do need to be able to report back on basic insights, post reach, follows, etc. to see what works and what doesn’t.

📅Organizational skills – you need them! You will be juggling multiple social media accounts and projects for different clients.

💡Adaptability and curiosity – they are your superpowers. The social media world moves fast, so you can never stop learning.

My client is a passionate fempreneur and sees opportunities everywhere.

She’s an innovator, an expert at multi-tasking and capable of wearing all the hats, all the time!

Hi to all the new VA's starting out on their new business venture!💃

Every day as a Virtual Assistant is about learning something new and awesome - new tools, new strategies, new industries - BUT it can quickly become exhausting if you try to put your energy in ALL the places. Especially if you’re spending your time on things you don’t enjoy.

Take some time to figure out

💟what excites you ...
💟what are the skills you want to hone ...
💟is there a niche industry that attracts you ...
💟who are the types of people you want to work with …

I still get nervous when I turn down an opportunity that I don’t feel totally aligned with. It’s scary to say no to potential income! 😬But I am learning to trust my gut to make space for those creative projects I love the most. Now 80% of the work I do is digital marketing design. Yay! 🥳

There are so many VA niches to choose from! (I will do a follow-up post with a list of services you can offer.) Trust your intuition and go for gold!

Bonus tip: Join Virtual Assistant support groups on Facebook, ask questions, follow and support other VA’s, but don’t compare yourself to them. Each VA has their own unique skills and traits. You do YOU. ☺️

How did it all begin, your entrepreneurial journey?

Mine was divine luck. 🙏🍀

When I started my journey in social media marketing about 6 years ago, I was still wet behind the ears. I had a full-time job, but the business was struggling, so to supplement my income, I put an ad on Gumtree offering social media assistance.

I was incredibly lucky to connect with an amazing business owner who would not just become my client, but also my mentor and inspiration. As a seasoned fempreneur with a creative spirit and an intuitive soul, she knew exactly how to guide me and give me room to learn about different aspects of online business. What started on Facebook, branched off to other social media platforms, then newsletters, building landing pages, online events assistance, and so on. As she expanded her business, and gave me more responsibilities, so I expanded my skills.

I gained enough confidence to birth The Media Post in May of 2019 and became a full-time virtual assistant. And more recently, a Creative VA.

You start by crafting the perfect post, meticulously selecting the right words and images to catch its attention. 👀

Then comes the nerve-wracking part: the waiting game. Will the Meta Algorithm swipe right on your content, or will it leave you stuck in the friend zone of the news feed? ⏳

Believe me, I know how frustrating and discouraging it can be when your thoughtfully crafted posts only get seen by a handful of people. There’s no denying that organic reach has declined, but I’m here to tell you that there’s no need to throw in the towel. By understanding the algorithm’s preferences, you can tailor your organic posts to align with it’s love language 🤗❤

Here are some things the Algorithm notices:

♡ Know Your Audience: Dive deep into what they find meaningful, relevant, and informative. Understanding their interests is key🔑.

♡ Keep it real! Clear headlines, truthful content, and steering clear of misleading tactics will keep you in good graces with the algorithm.

♡Work with, Not Against: Don't try to game the system. Focus on creating valuable content that resonates with your audience rather than trying to manipulate reach.

♡Engage, Engage, Engage: Reply to comments and nurture those meaningful interactions. It's a two-way street!

♡Foster Community: Encourage discussions and sharing among your audience. The more they engage with each other, the better it is for your content's visibility.

♡Don't Underestimate Status Posts: Sometimes, simplicity wins. Research shows that status posts often yield high engagement rates, so don't overlook them in your content strategy.

Stay authentic and keep your audience at the heart ❤of everything you do, and you’ll soon be on affectionate terms with the Algorithm.

The responsibility of running your own business makes it really challenging to switch off your work brain. 🤯🫣 I work 6 days a week and have gone without a holiday for several years. I started paying more attentiont to my instincts and gut feelings, allowing them to guide me in making choices. Ultimately you want to have a balanced life, so you want your personal, professional, emotional, and spiritual self working together as a team. For me, for the moment, being in alignment just means validating my own existence by taking the time to remember, and to speak kindly to, my true self.
