• President Ramaphosa bedank Brasilië

Die president het ná die afsluiting van die beraad gister met die media gepraat. Ramaphosa sê baie belangrike kwessies is op die beraad bespreek, insluitend klimaatsverandering. Suid-Afrika sal volgende jaar die volgende G20-beraad in Johannesburg aanbied. Die president sê daar is sleutelprioriteitkwessies waarop Suid-Afrika in volgende jaar se beraad wil fokus.

• Skoor doen ‘n beroep op die minister van Verdediging en Militêre Veterane, Motshekga, om te reageer op verskeie kwessies wat voortspruit uit die oudituitkomste van haar departement.

Dit kom nadat die ouditeur-generaal se 2023/24-boekjaarverslag die gebrek aan omvattende ouditaksieplanne aan die lig gebring het om vorige jaar ouditaangeleenthede aan te spreek, wat tot herhalende ouditbevindings gelei het. Dit is verder aan die lig gebring dat daar ongerymdhede is waarin senior amptenare versuim het om diegene wat verantwoordelik is vir wanadministrasie aanspreeklik te hou. Skoor se voorsitter, Songezo Zibi, sê hulle sal minister Motshekga nooi om die stappe te verduidelik wat sy neem om die krisis van aanspreeklikheid en befondsing te verbeter.

Matibe says foreign nationals are required by law to have five-million rand in their bank accounts to register their businesses.

• High court postpones Stilfontein matter

Society for the Protection of Our Constitution approached the court last week, calling for an urgent intervention.
They want the court to offer relief for the miners underground in the abandoned shaft. This comes as the police wait to arrest the illegal miners once they resurface. Police spokesperson, Colonel Athlenda Mathe, says they welcome the postponement. Mathe says they also deny claims that the miners are trapped underground.

• Cyril officially launched a landmark student accommodation project

Valued at 800-million rand, the development will provide two-thousand beds, significantly addressing the student housing shortage in the city. The construction phase is expected to generate approximately one-thousand-200 temporary jobs, with 50 permanent positions created once the facility is operational. Mayor Xaba expressed optimism that this initiative will attract further investment in student accommodation across eThekwini.

• Apartheid-era cops plead not guilty to Caiphus Nyoka’s murder

• Good Party sê dit is die verantwoordelikheid van Eskom en die Nersa om die land weg te beweeg van hoë elektrisiteitspryse.

Die party sê hy is gekant teen Eskom se jongste voorstel om ‘n elektrisiteitstariefverhoging van 36 persent toegestaan te word. Good het die skuld gegee vir Eskom se onvermoë om sy bedrywighede te bestuur en Nersa se versuim om Eskom te help om sy teikens vir die land se hoë elektrisiteitspryse te bereik. Good se sekretaris-generaal, Brett Herron, sê nog ‘n elektrisiteitstariefverhoging sal ongelykheid in die land vererger.

• Pretoria-hooggeregshof in Gauteng het vanoggend die aangeleentheid oor die Stilfontein-mynwerkers wat na bewering vasgekeer is, tot Donderdag uitgestel.

Die organisasie Society for the Protection of Our Constitution het verlede week die hof genader en gevra vir ‘n dringende ingryping. Hulle wil hê die hof moet verligting bied vir die mynwerkers ondergronds in die verlate s**g. Dit kom terwyl die polisie wag om die onwettige mynwerkers in hegtenis te neem sodra hulle na die oppervlak kom. Die polisiewoordvoerder, kolonel Athlenda Mathe, sê hulle verwelkom die uitstel.
Mathe sê hulle ontken bewerings dat die mynwerkers ondergronds vasgekeer is.

Dit volg op Amerika se besluit om Oekraïne toe te laat om hul langafstandmissiele te gebruik om teikens in Rusland te tref. Rusland het belowe dat hul reaksie hierop tasbaar sal wees. Biden het intussen wêreldleiers aangemoedig om sy voorbeeld te volg en Oekraïne te ondersteun. Rusland en Oekraïne is in oorlog sedert Februarie 2022 toe Rusland Oekraïne binnegeval het.

• Biden se sogenaamde groenlig aan Oekraïne vir die gebruik van Amerikaanse wapens teen Rusland, wek kommer

President Joe Biden van die VSA se oënskynlike groenlig vir Oekraïne om Rusland met langafstandmissiele van Amerika aan te val, het die verkose president Donald Trump se bondgenote ongelukkig gelaat. Trump het nie self kommentaar gelewer nie, maar mense na aan hom beskryf Biden se stap as ‘n gevaarlike eskalasie van die konflik. Biden het tientalle miljarde dollars aan Kijef se oorlogspoging toegewy, en het glo die naweek ingestem dat Oekraïne Amerikaanse wapens gebruik om aanvalle diep in Rusland te loods. Biden se besluit is nie formeel bevestig nie.

• Renamo sê die Mosambiekse verkiesing moet nietig verklaar word

Mosambiek se belangrikste opposisieparty, Renamo, sê die land se onlangse verkiesing moet nietig verklaar word en ‘n voorlopige regering moet ingestel word. Mosambiek het gewelddadige betogings in die gesig gestaar sedert die regerende Frelimo Party as die wenner van die onlangse verkiesing aangekondig is. Opposisiepartye beweer dat die stemtelling bedrog is en het nie die uitslag aanvaar nie. Gewelddadige betogings het die lewens van verskeie mense geëis en ernstige ekonomiese skade aan die land aangerig. Opposisiepartye hou vol dat die verkiesingsuitslag vals is.

• Renamo says Mozambique election should be annulled

Mozambique’s main opposition party, Renamo, says the country’s recent election should be annulled and a caretaker government put in place. Russia has accused outgoing American President, Joe Biden, of escalating the war in Ukraine. This follows the US decision to allow Ukraine to use its long-range missiles to strike targets in Russia. Russia has vowed that its response to this will be palpable. Biden has meanwhile encouraged world leaders to follow his example and support Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine have been at war since February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine.
