Loughborough University alumna, Lydia Monyepao, is the new CEO of the SAFA.net - South African Football Association.

🗨️ “It is big shoes that I am filling, and I must hit the ground running.”

She joined SAFA in July 2021, occupying the COO position. Previously, the Banyana Banyana retired international served as the Team Manager and Liaison Officer for the senior national team at major tournaments such as the 2010 African Women's Championship (now known as the Women's Africa Cup of Nations).

On 12 April 2022, Edith Molikoe of 🇿🇦 South Africa, was named Player of the Match against the United States of America, in the classification round at the Women's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom.

This was her first appearance in the Women's FIH Hockey World Cup at all levels - junior or senior.

In 2022, the Gauteng Golden Fireballs under the headship and captaincy of Dr Elsje Jordaan and Bongiwe Msomi, beat the Gauteng Jaguars 35-32 in the Gauteng derby final to win the Telkom Netball League.

This was their maiden Netball League title and are the third team to lift the title since the league was established in 2014.

🗣️ “Credit to the players how they showed their talent and could stick to the plan. I’m very pleased...That is what we have done this year. It was a challenge, it’s new players, new units and new combinations but the players just bought in 100 per cent to whatever we were doing. I’m just proud today.” Dr Jordaan said.

The Confederation of African Football - CAF has released its first Women’s Football Landscape with the aim of providing a holistic view of women’s football in Africa and providing reliable baseline data for each member association.

The inaugural CAF Women’s Football Landscape Report collected information from CAF Member Associations (MAs) until December 2022 in three key areas: Development and Participation, League and Competition, and Structure and Governance.

💬 "The Women’s Football Department is delighted to introduce the first report on the women’s football landscape. This will be a great tool for the department as it strives to further develop and grow women’s football in Africa." CAF Head of Women’s Football, Meskerem Tadesse Goshime said.

The report consists of two parts: First is the Key Findings that summarize all the data and provide an overview of women's football on the continent.

Banyana Banyana and are nominees in the Team of the Year category ahead of the 16th Annual .

Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana won the 2022 Women's tournament (maiden title) and Proteas Women reached their first-ever ICC Women's final at the recent 2023 edition in South Africa.

💬 "The time has come for me...and let the gloves catch dust. I have tried everything to keep playing and have pushed as hard as I can but my body is signalling that it has no more to give and it is time to retire from all forms of cricket."

Between January and August in 2007, she made her ODI, Test and T20I debut respectively. She played as a wicket-keeper and right-handed batter.

In February 2018, she played in her 100th women's ODI match for South Africa in a clash against India.

Both in 2018 and 2022, she was named as part of the squad for the ICC Women's and Commonwealth Games but she was ruled out due to an injury.

🗣️ "Cricket has taught me about life, being disciplined, what it means to be professional and how to be a team player. For this, I will always be grateful. And I choose to continue to be grateful for cricket as I retire and transition into the next chapter of my life."

Last year, she was represented South Africa at the Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

On a club level, she represented KwaZulu-Natal (both inland and costal), Gauteng and Thistles in the South African Women's T20 Super League.

🗨️ "It is with great sadness I announce my retirement from international cricket. Often the journey can be lonely, painful, and emotional, but would not change it for anything. I'm grateful for what this game has given me."

She made her ODI debut and T20I debut against the West Indies on 8 March and 11 June 2009 respectively.

In January 2013, she became the first South African woman to take an international hat-trick, finishing with 5/28 in an ODI match against the West Indies.

On 21 June 2016, she was appointed captain of for all forms (Test, ODI and T20I) following Mignon du Preez's decision to step down. She served as the captain between 2016 and 2021.

In February 2017, during the Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier against India, she became the seventh player to reach 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in women's ODIs. She also became the first player for South Africa to take 100 wickets in women's ODIs.

At the 11th edition of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in England, she became the leading wicket taker of the tournament with 15 scalps in seven matches. In December 2017, she was named as part of the ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year.

The 2020 ICC Women's in Australia was her last T20 World Cup while having represented South Africa in seven T20 World Cup occassions and only missing out on the 2023 edition in South Africa.

The 16-year-old was the only amateur golfer to make the cut, clinching a 58th-place finish.
