Money streaming out of South Africa

The South African rand dropped sharply, its worst fall in two weeks, as political tensions within the country's ruling parties worsened. Despite offering higher yields, South Africa has seen capital outflows, partly due to worries about the sustainability of investor confidence in the coalition government.
Tensions peaked when the Democratic Alliance criticised President Ramaphosa's African National Congress (ANC) for bypassing agreed coalition procedures, especially following the controversial expropriation law.
The rand fell 1.5%, the largest drop among emerging-market currencies, and foreign investors have sold over R20 billion ($1.1 billion) in South African stocks this year.
The ANC’s support in the 2024 election fell below 50%, leading to a coalition with the business-friendly DA, initially boosting investor confidence.

All eyes on the SARB:
Economists are expecting the South African Reserve Bank to cut interest rates by 25 basis points when it concludes its monetary policy meeting this week, essentially bringing the repo rate down to 7.50% and the prime rate to 11%.

February's Provisional Fuel Prices ------------------------------- The latest data from the Central Energy Fund indicates an increase in the price of petrol and diesel in February. The price of 93-octane petrol could rise by 93 cents per liter, while 95-octane petrol might increase by 86 cents per liter. The price of 0.05%-diesel could increase by R1.06 per liter, and 0.005%-diesel by R1.04 per liter. The price of paraffin may rise by 92 cents per liter.
