The Limpopo Health Department says 39 learners from Dzumeri primary school at Ndhambi village in Giyani, have been taken to hospital due to a suspected food borne illness. Health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says the learners are receiving treatment at Nkensani hospital in Giyani.

Residents of Ga-Phaka in Matlala, near Polokwane in Limpopo say they're shocked following the deaths of two children due to alleged food borne illness. Five siblings from the Phaka family and their two month-old nephew were hospitalised after complaining of stomach pains after consuming a home-cooked meal on Tuesday. Two of the children, aged two months and two years, died several hours later at a local hospital. The incident comes as South Africa is grappling with cases of deaths and illnesses caused by suspected food contamination. The six children started vomiting uncontrollably after consuming a home-cooked meal and a carbonated drink. According to the family, the surviving children have no recollection of eating anything bought from a shop before their meal. Family spokesperson Jack Phaka says they are awaiting a forensic investigation, to establish the actual cause. Phaka added that the family is struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Sergent Rachel Kutumela - who faces 6 murder charges - has arrived at the Polokwane Magistrate's Court where she's due to apply for bail. Kutumela allegedly benefited 10-million rand in the killing of six civilians. She has been charged alongside her 27 year old daughter, Flora Shokane, and sister, Anna Shokane, who face money laundering charges. Earlier, the investigating officer, captain Keshi Mabunda arrived at the court with heavily armed guards. He's expected to testify as the state oposses bail

About 80 correctional officers are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures for allegedly participating in the smuggling of contraband into correctional facilities nationwide.
This is according to the National Commissioner of Correctional Services Makgothi Thobakgale.
Thobakgale led an unannounced raid at the Polokwane Correctional Facility in Limpopo.
Various illegal contraband, including drugs, cellphones, and sharp weapons were recovered hidden in mattresses, pillows and food items.

Eye witnesses in a multiple car crash that claim one life in Thohoyandou, Limpopo wants the authorities to rehabilitate the road. Atleast one person has been confirmed dead while several others were injured and taken to hospital after a crash involving eleven vehicles. The road has since been opened. Eye witnesses say the bus that was traveling from Sibasa to Thohoyandou lost control and crashed into several stationary cars at the traffic lights. They say this is not the first crash to happen at the spot.

The department of education in Limpopo has temporarily suspended food sales in and around schools following incidents of food poisoning. The provision of meals provided by the national school nutrition program will continue. One learner died in Khubvi outside Thohoyandou yesterday, while scores fell ill due to suspected food poisoning in Malamulele two weeks ago. The department released a statement saying that the temporary suspension is a precautionary measure.
