🛩 🚁 Remember to join tomorrow's Open Training Day at the SAAF Museum, AFB Swartkop! We should see plenty of action since it's a month before the annual SAAF Museum Air Show, which takes place on May 4th! We hope to see you there!

This is Jackie Moggridge, she ferried 1,438 planes to waiting RAF pilots during WW2, flying dozens of aircraft types.

At 5’3” she was too small for many planes that were designed for men, and would use her parachute, log books and cushions just so she could reach the controls.

Jackie was awarded the King’s Commendation for Valuable Services in the Air after the war and was determined to continue flying.

From 1948-1954 she was a pilot in the Women’s Royal Air Force Voluntary Reserve, where in 1953, she was one of the first five women to earn their RAF wings. The next woman would not earn her wings until 1991.

Rare and wacky is how one may describe the YL-15 Scout. Built by Boeing post-World War II, this small liaison aircraft boasts a unique design with its sharply tapered fuselage, reminiscent of a helicopter's.

It was field tested by the U.S. Army before finding its way to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska, where it performed various duties.

Are you ready for the summer? ☀️🕶️

We certainly are, and we are delighted to announce our 2024 Display Season and where you’ll be able to see our display throughout the summer! As usual, this list is for full displays only, and does not include individual flypasts ✈️

We have also been receiving a number of queries from our followers in the Netherlands and Belgium as to whether we will be conducting a series of flypasts on the 4th May this year. This prestigious event always falls early in the BBMF season and we have been delighted to mark their Liberation Day celebrations for the last 2 years. Unfortunately this year, due to scheduled, but extensive, maintenance on the Lancaster this winter (including installation of a new tailplane), the Lancaster will still be in the final stages of completing her winter maintenance in early May. We appreciate that this will be disappointing for those of you in the Netherlands and Belgium, but the maintenance and safety of our aircraft must take priority and we look forward to visiting later in the year as we attend Sanicole Airshow! 🇧🇪🇳🇱

The British Columbia Aviation Museum (BC Aviation Museum) at Victoria International Airport (YYJ) has announced that it would take custody of Martin JRM Mars flying boat 'Hawaii Mars' from Coulson Aviation. The aircraft will be the centerpiece of a water-bomber exhibit in a new hangar.

When former operator Coulson had bought its two Martin Mars water-bombers, the sales contract stipulated that at least one had to be relocated to a museum upon retirement.
