The first ever KKNK Youth Arts Festival, presented in collaboration with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will be ‘a festival within a festival’ (KKNK takes place in Oudshoorn 1-9 April.) High school learners will gather to experience the arts with a programme of dance, drama, music and more. An additional, exciting element of this festival is the launch of online videos by professional artists who provide additional tools for education in the arts.
“From 1 to 4 April we present a festival of look, listen, learn, feel, and experience, aimed at high school learners with an interest in the arts, through special packages. Content is curated in such a way that groups can not only experience the arts outside the classroom, but to also meet professionals in the arts and participate in discussions and workshops. This is also a wonderful opportunity for the youth to be introduced to the KKNK, as they are the audiences of the future,” says Hugo Theart, Artistic Director of the KKNK.
Various packages are available for the KKNK Youth Arts Festival, with options that include or exclude accommodation. [email protected], phone 044 203 8600 or send a WhatsApp to 065 285 2337. The closing date for registration is Friday 10 March. The festival programme is available at kknk.co.za and tickets are available online at Webtickets or your nearest Pick n Pay. (pic by Josh Maritz)
There was a festive Italian mood at the opening of the George Old Car Show today...
“This truly rare vehicle has been my dream car for many years. And at the ripe old age of 58, I was finally able to get my hands on it,” says Niel Kasselman, who will be taking part in the Southern Cape Old Car Club’s annual outride to celebrate Heritage Month. On September 22, he will be hitting the road from the tour’s official starting point at Halfway Toyota in Knysna Road, George.
Niel, wife Ria and their daughter Nadia and son-in-law, Frikkie van der Merwe will brave the route in a beautifully-restored 1954 Chevrolet Belair Coupe. The car was completely rebuilt in 2019, its straight six-cylinder setup replaced with a V8 Oldsmobile Rocket and a TH400 Auto gearbox.
Niel is the founder of burgeoning George-based business OJanna Distributors – the gold sponsor of Erfenistoer 2022.
It’s the Southern Cape Old Car Club’s 10th Heritage Tour, from September 22 to 25. The fun kicks off at Halfway Toyota in George on September 22, before heading to Oudtshoorn, De Rust, Prins Albert and Matjiesfontein. Day 2 includes the towns of Ceres, Tulbagh, Porterville, Velddrif and St Helena Bay, with Day 3’s route leading past Vredenburg, Windmeul, Worcester, Robertson and Montagu. The final day on September 25 will see Erfenistoer drivers return to George via Barrydale, Tradouw Pass, Buffelsjagrivier, and Riversdale7 Western Cape residents must take note that this venerable fleet can be admired exclusively during tea stops in Prince Albert, Matjiesfontein, Tulbagh, St Helena Bay, Windmeul, and Montagu.
