Just published… Special issue on ‘Radical Reason’ This issue shows how African thought has and could contribute to the development of new logics and new forms of reason and reflects on the full complexity of the lived experiences and conditions of being in the world now – on the horizon of the emergence of a not yet fully determinable world when radical thought, science, ethics, institutional arrangements, and other shared systems of valuation and understanding, are required to give depth and meaning to the full articulation of the questions that we need to be asking now to engender the arrival of a just and equal world to come. No one discipline or system of thought can answer the questions the world is facing today. This is the time for ‘radical reason’. https://buff.ly/3Fqhml1

Two climate modellers - and a researcher in related complex systems - have been awarded the Nobel Prize in physics today!

They received the award for "physical modelling of Earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming." This is research they were doing back in the 1950s and 1960s. Yes, that's how long scientists have been worried about the risks of climate change, and this prize-winning work informed the formal warning of climate risks that scientists delivered to a U.S. president in 1965.

To learn more about climate models, see our Global Weirding episode in the comments; and to see how the even more complex models we used today (because I'm a climate modeller myself) have evolved from those originally developed by these Nobel prize-winners, see the chapter I wrote for the US National Climate Assessment, also linked below.
