Happy Monday! ๐ Here's a few pictures of Odin. Hopefully he is cute enough to get a smile out of you. ๐
Happy Monday! ๐ค๐
I've been promising reviews and just haven't been getting around to it. ๐
But here's my review for Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. ๐ผ๐ค๐ผ
I initially started reading Daisy Jones and the Six in January but then life happened and I just forgot to get back to it. Oops... But then in June I started listening to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (which was amazing) and just had to pick up Daisy Jones.
I love music and I have a soft spot for rock and alternative music. I dig the vibe of music documentaries and watch band interviews on YouTube for hours. So I really connected with the interview format. I got sucked in, I felt like I was there.
This book had me wishing this was a real band. I wanted to listen to the songs as they recalled writing them, I wanted to hear Billy and Daisy perform. The only thing that sucks about this books that I can't listen to their music...
I would rate this more if I could. I am literally about to read it again but this time as an audiobook.

May was a really good reading month for me. Everything I read was really good. For the first time in a long time I actually read some physical books instead of just listening to audiobooks. And in addition to the books pictured I also listened to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkin-Reid which suprised me a lot and was pretty amazing. I'm looking forward to Malibu Rising.
What books are you looking forward to reading soon? @ Woodstock, Western Cape, South Africa
How is it only Wednesday? It feels like it has been a long week so far. Good, but long... It has been more than a year since I've had to go to an office so I am struggling to adjust to the early mornings again. ๐
Anyway, wanted to do a quick review of We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal since I finally finished it. Most of you will know that I have started this book multiple times and really struggled to get into it but I am glad that I tried again. I think that the first few times I tried reading it I was just not in the right mindset or mood.
The beginning felt a bit slow, it followed a classic quest trope, the kind where the MCs embark on a long trek. But eventually I became invested. I think that around halfway through the book the writing style becomes more refined, it kinda like the author finally finds her rhythm. This is a debut after all. I think that Hafsah Faizal has a lot of potential as fantasy author. I am excited to read the sequel and also amped to see what else the author publishes in the future.
Is it just me or does today totally feel like a Monday? ๐
If you are looking for fantasy that is steeped in culture and promises a to be dark and intriguing, check our Bloodprint by Ausma Zehanat Khan. It is currently available on the website for R70. Link in bio.
"A dark power called the Talisman has risen in the land, born of ignorance and persecution. Led by a man known only known as the One-eyed Preacher, it is a cruel and terrifying movement bent on world dominationโa superstitious patriarchy that suppresses knowledge and subjugates women. And it is growing.
But there are those who fight the Talisman's spread, including the Companions of Hira, a diverse group of influential women whose power derives from the Claimโthe magic inherent in the words of a sacred scripture. Foremost among them is A***n and her apprentice, Sinnia, skilled warriors who are knowledgeable in the Claim. This daring pair have long stalked Talisman slave-chains, searching for clues and weapons to help them battle their enemyโs oppressive ways. Now, they may have discovered a miraculous symbol of hope that can destroy the One-eyed Preacher and his fervid followers: The Bloodprint, a dangerous text the Talisman has tried to erase from the world.
Finding a copy of The Bloodprint promises to be their most dangerous undertaking yet, an arduous journey that will lead them deep into Talisman territory. Though they will be helped by alliesโa loyal ex-slave and A***nโs former confidante and sword masterโboth A***n and Sinnia know that this mission may well be their last."
What fantasy series are you loving right now? What is on your fantasy TBR list?
I am loosing the fight with Serpent & Dove and am considering dnfing it. Idk, the book is just not bringing me joy right now and I think that says a lot about how my reading preferences changed. I'm rolling my eyes too much and the MCs feel so generic. ๐ I think I might give it a rest for the weekend and try again on Monday. Right now i feel like I need an immersive Fantasy. I want that "can't put down" feeling you know? The kind of book that has you reading until the sun comes out.
The Gilded Ones by .forna is one of my most anticipated reads of 2021. ๐๐ฅ
Thank you
"Sixteen-year-old Deka lives in fear and anticipation of the blood ceremony that will determine whether she will become a member of her village. Already different from everyone else because of her unnatural intuition, Deka prays for red blood so she can finally feel like she belongs.
But on the day of the ceremony, her blood runs gold, the color of impurity--and Deka knows she will face a consequence worse than death.
Then a mysterious woman comes to her with a choice: stay in the village and submit to her fate, or leave to fight for the emperor in an army of girls just like her. They are called alaki--near-immortals with rare gifts. And they are the only ones who can stop the empire's greatest threat.
Knowing the dangers that lie ahead yet yearning for acceptance, Deka decides to leave the only life she's ever known. But as she journeys to the capital to train for the biggest battle of her life, she will discover that the great walled city holds many surprises. Nothing and no one are quite what they seem to be--not even Deka herself."
Are you an audiobook fan? ๐ง๐
God, I love audiobooks. They have really helped me get back into reading more regularly and actually finishing books. I swear by ๐ So far I've had an amazing experience with the app. The library is rather huge and there is a great variety. Sometimes a title isn't immediately available but thats perfectly ok with me. I have so many other books on my TBR, so it is never a trainsmash. Other times they have brand new release before the physical book is even available locally. ๐
Magic. Witches. Hunters. Romanace. ๐
Giving Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin a try and hoping that it lives up to the hype. So far so good. ๐ค๐ผ The writing style is reminding me of early Sarah J Maas, not entirely sure if that's a good thing yet.
Have you read it yet?
It's a lazy Sunday for me. Currently sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee and reading.
Who are your autobuy authors?
One of mine would have to be Trudi Canavan. I fell in love with the Black Magician trilogy as a kid and have been a loyal reader since.
I've added a set of The Age of Five trilogy to the store for R150. ๐๐ Link to the store is in my bio. Happy reading!
Good morning bibliophiles! It's a rainy day in Cape Town and I don't feel like doing anything. ๐
I still need to go grocery, I have nothing to eat in my house. But I'm feeling so lazy today. I also have a bunch of books that I need to be added to the store... But I really just want to spend the day in bed with a book. ๐ด
What are your plans for the day?
Okay, so I've been sucked into the Bridgerton world. I'm listening to An Offer from a Gentleman on and it is sooooo cute. I will definitely be buying this entire series in paperback soon.
Also, search Bridgerton musical. ๐ You can thank me later. A duo called Barlow & Bear release an amazing Bridgerton demo on SoundCloud. I really hope this actually get developed into a musical. @ Walmer Estate, Woodstock, Cape Town
'Manon rose in the saddle, sliding a leg under her, body tensing to make the jump ahead. And she said to Abraxos, touching his spine, "I love you." It was the only thing that mattered in the end. The only thing that mattered now.'
Today is hard. Today I don't feel like answering emails, I don't feel like attending online meetings. I just want to get back into bed... I haven't slept properly in more than a week because I can't seem to get used to falling asleep without Abraxos on my pillow next to me. I've always had issues with insomnia and Brax helped with that (and so much more) over the last 2 years and a bit. Odin and Freya are not cuddlers so its really weird trying to adapt. Usually when people refer to animals as their 'best friend' they are talking about a dog, but in this case mine was a loud, demanding and clingy tuxedo cat.
Odin has been my shadow since we had to say goodbye to Abraxos last Sunday. I swear these cats just know. But its not the same...
"We meet fear. We greet the unexpected visitor and listen to what he has to tell us. When fear arrives, something is about to happen."

How have you been spending the long weekend?
Thanks so much to for my amazing box! I loved the experience so much and would definitely do it again. Raquel added so many personal touches that made this box feel extra special. My absolute favorite items are the coasters that Raquel made and the metal bookmark of favourite Daughter of Smoke and Bone quote by ๐โค๏ธ The box also includes beautiful bookmarks from and . The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into peopleโs minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon ( #1-3)
R280 for the set

I've been curing my hangover with The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn while I work and so far so good. The audiobooks are really good.
How are you curing your Maas hangover?
Also, these prints are available for purchase on the website. They are limited, so get yours before they're gone.
I feel like I'm chasing a high after finishing A Court of Silver Flames. I find myself reading multiple books, something I never really do, because I can't seem to find tbe right one.
One of the books i am listening to on is We Hunt the Flame. This is the 3rd time I am giving this book a try and I was hoping the audiobook would get me hooked... But no matter how much I want to enjoy it, I can't help but feel like I'm going to end up dnfing it again. I think I put a lot of pressure on myself to like certain books, especially ones that are inspired by my culture. Diverse representation is so important. Sharing a language, culture or landscape with an MC inspired by your own is empowering. But I can't help but find myself disinterested and uninvested in this story. I keep rolling my eyes at the dialougue, particularly the banter between Altair and Nasir. It's a little cringeworthy. ๐
Maybe my taste in literature has changed and I just can't relate anymore. Or maybe the Maas hangover is to blame. I'm not too sure... But who knows, I might just push through and end up loving it. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Good morning bibliophiles. It's a rainy Wednesday on Cape Town. Wish i couldnhave spent the day under the covers instead of working. ๐
In spirit of Maas I've added an art print of Feyre, a Night Triumphant quote print and a Night Court inspired double-sided bookmark to the website. ๐โค๏ธ
I'm thinking of adding the House of Wind print too, as well as some Grishaverse quote prints. Would you be interested in something like that? @ Woodstock, Western Cape, South Africa
I finished ACOSF and thought I'd share a spoiler free review! ๐๐ญ๐
๐คฃ
I have so many thoughts and feelings... ACOFAS was an emotional rollercoaster. If you've been here for a while and know me since the beginning of my ACOTAR journey you will know that Cassian has always been and will always be bae. And as much as I loved to hate Nesta, I always found myself defending her, trying to understand her side of the story, trying to figure out why she was the way she was. I really love me a redemption arc and I was quite disappointed when ACOWAR didnt give us a redemption arc for Nesta. But ACOFAS definitely did. Nesta is just... ๐ค๐ค๐ค
ACOSF made me laugh, cry (like proper cry) and blush more times than any other SJM book has ever made me blush before (definitely not a YA book). ๐ณ๐
There is so much more I want to say but I don't wanna risk spoiling anything for anyone. It was not my favourite Maas book but it was everything I expected from a book in this series. A solid 4 star read. ๐๐๐๐
Happy Monday bibliophiles. ๐ผ Here's to hoping this week is a good one.

All this Maas on my timeline has surprisingly made me want to read Kingdom of Ash. Finally.
