In times of crisis, the Jewish people act – we speak out, we volunteer, we give, we take action. And so, we felt a deep need to come to Israel, to see what was going on, to hug our brothers and sisters, to pick and plant, to witness, to uplift, to cry, to feel humbled and to become whole.” explains Momentum Community Leader Melissa Hack.

The Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre celebrates 25 years of promoting respect for diversity through education. 🍃

In 1994, just before South Africa's first democratic elections, Myra Osrin brought the 'Anne Frank in the World' exhibition to Cape Town. As Honorary Director, she saw its potential to educate about the Holocaust and its lessons on prejudice during Nelson Mandela's transformative era.

This inspired her to establish the Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre in 1999, marking its 25th anniversary this August.

Today, the Centre continues Madiba's legacy by teaching about the consequences of prejudice, racism, antisemitism, xenophobia and homophobia, and the dangers of indifference, apathy and silence.

🙌 July 18th is a global celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and the legacy he left for mankind. We are urged to take 67 minutes of our time to do something to commemorate his life and make a small difference.

Cape Jewish Chronicle

The Cape Jewish Chronicle was established in November 1984, with editor Irma Chait holding the position for 26 years. Irma retired at the end of 2010, and was succeeded by Tali Barnett. Tali took the Chronicle to new heights under her leadership. She resigned at the end of 2014. Lindy Diamond is the current editor of the publication.

The staff comprises secretary Tessa Epstein and layout artist Desrae Saacks, who have been with the paper for 29 and 19 years respectively.

The Editorial Board has an executive headed by chairman Lester Hoffman. The remaining members of the Editorial Board are representatives of the South African Zionist Federation (Cape Council) and the Jewish Board of Deputies (Cape Council), other organisations as well as members co-opted ad persona.

Both organisations and advertisers pay for space in the paper at appropriately different rates, with other submissions being inserted without charge at the discretion of the editor or the editorial board.
