Baby bath time can be quite hairy for some. The babies don't enjoy it and the mums find it stressful. No need to throw baby bath time out with the water! With Littlebear_dbn’s baby bath lilo, say goodbye to bath time blues and say hello to a daily ritual of “enjoyment and peace and quiet,” as Brittany Cuttler says.

When Britt started this small business, this mommypreneur had no idea just how impactful it would be. Watch the video and find out more about this adorable (and admirable!) SMME.

Child abduction.

This phrase probably strikes fear into your heart. Especially if you’re a parent.

That’s what it did for small business owner Adrian Broom anyway. Which is why he launched a revolutionary app designed to tackle all sorts of public safety issues.

It’s called SAFESnap and we love it.

It allows everyone from complete strangers in your running club to your overwhelmed child dealing with dad’s stroke to access the help they need STRAIGHT AWAY. What’s more? It’s easy to use and registration is free. Even better? By registering, you’re a part of a community-led solution to an “everybody” problem.

Watch the video and find out more about SAFEsnap’s many features. Believe Adrian when he says that it’s “not just another panic app.”

Be smart, get safe: https://safesnap.co.za/

Thank you, Sasfin, for helping us get the news out there on epic and altruistic entrepreneurs like Adrian Broom!

A SMALL LAW FIRM THAT ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT ITS CLIENTS!

Today we want to introduce you to Ginen Moodley, who owns and runs Attorneys which is a black youth owned corporate and commercial legal practice. In a profession so old, Ginen wanted to establish a platform for other aspiring corporate and commercial attorneys where risks on new solutions, ideas and practises could be developed.

We met Ginen a few months ago at one of our events, and the first thing that struck us was his passion for helping people, while transforming how people saw the legal industry. If you watch this video, you will immediately understand what we're talking about!
In his own words: "My intent in life is to keep people and the environment as safe as possible by applying my business acumen in non-traditional ways, coupled with my enthusiasn, I am unique because I am taking control of my life by being an entrepreneur."
We love small businesses that take their work seriously while dedicate themselves to helping others. Take a look at their listing below.

Food-independence... What does that even mean?

Holy shiitake

Homefarm started in 2016 and they’ve expanded from selling microgreen kits for the smart appliance to selling more complex kits, like ones for herbs and lettuces.

Their crop-growing appliance comes with a user-friendly ‘plug-and-play’ app, so that your home crop can be maintained remotely via the Cloud (super cool version of Black Mirror, right?)

Read more below :-)

Michael Currin, CEO of Homefarm, wants ordinary people to become food-independent.

"Like Nike. But in Wakanda"

There’s no such thing as a Siko Republik cape, but there should be.

Why, you ask? Because Jabulile Gwala is a superhero with humble beginnings and deserves to wear one. She “grew up in the dusty streets of Maphanga” in Katlehong.

In 2018, Siko Republik, an athleisure wear company that combines the “modern aesthetic of activewear with our heritage and culture” opened. And the response since then has been phenomenal.

Mandela Day...WOW...

Yesterday, the team was invited to join Sasfin at their offices for Mandela Day. They partnered with Fingertips of Africa, the Sewing Academy, and 19th Avenue Kitchen to create a few special activities that would make a difference to the lives of those in need.

We loved everything about the day so we brought our camera gear to document this special occasion.

What made the day really special for us?

Sasfin invited fellow small business owner Davy from CAKEY BY DAVY to bake 670 cupcakes for the day...Think icing for days, branded aprons, and a whole lot of enthusiasm and "gees".

Take a look at the final video below...What an experience!

The event is officially sold out and has been for just over a week.
We have received so many messages with requests to increase the number of tickets, but unfortunately, we have a capacity limit.

Keep an eye out for a recap of this event, exciting news for small business owners and their employees, as well as dates for the next dinner event.

It's clear that no one is coming to save is, so it's time for small businesses to unite and save themselves.

BCKRDS, (pronounced back roads), is a brand and design consultancy that has a ‘strong passion for design and creating meaningful products and brands that people want to engage with’. Cheers to that!

We loved getting a chance to chat with (Samu for short) Belle, managing director of BCKRDS. He has a refreshing take on design and got us excited about the future of branding and their take on the meaning behind it all.
BCKRDS does both ‘big corporate’ projects and ‘big culture’ plays - think Telkom and President Honey. Best of both worlds, right?

Does your brand need a makeover? Visit BCKRDS at www.bckrds.com

Sasfin is a great supporter of epic small businesses – Thank you for getting the word out there with us.

IF YOU LIVE IN JOHANNESBURG...
You definitely want to visit Egrek Cinema in Parkhurst for a unique movie experience 😍

Egrek is a premium 30 seat cinema that is privately owned. I've personally been there a few times and I loved the experience.

This is a short article that the Small Business Showcase team wrote to promote Egrek (at no cost to them) and I'm asking you to share it far and wide!

Our goal is to discover and promote quality small businesses across South Africa that are doing amazing things, and then share cool stories about them!

There are so many amazing small businesses in South Africa, but people don't know about them. That's where we come in.

By the way, the more these small businesses grow, the more the economy grows, and the less unemployment we have! As our team grows, we will be writing more Small Business Showcase articles just like this.

Special thanks to Tiffany Markman Copywriting & Training for all her help. Without her, none of this would be possible!

Mark Sham

For Akhil Nana from Egrek Cinema, movie night is about more than watching a film. It’s about spending time in an intimate, comfortable environment where you’re enthralled by the atmosphere just as much as you are by the blockbuster.

EVERYONE WINS WHEN YOU SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES (INCLUDING YOU) 😍
It all just starts with understanding that small businesses are the engine room of every economy, and all that is required of you is a little bit of effort to divert your spend toward them.

As soon as small businesses increase their revenue because of your support, they almost immediately hire more staff. And then they tend to upskill these people.

Very few small businesses sit with millions in their bank account, which means they recycle money back into the economy very quickly. This helps ease the high levels of inequality in our country because revenue is more evenly distributed, rather than helping the rich become more rich.

Added to this, when you divert your spend toward a quality small business, the service or product that you're already spending money on, is almost always of superior quality. And by supporting that small business, you become part of their community.

Once you discover a quality small business, and you choose to support them instead of the big guys, you see how much it means to them, and you feel amazing because you've made the biggest difference in their lives, and the lives of the people they employ.

You could even take it one step further. When you buy from a small business, you could use your social media channels to tell others about them, and now you are making the biggest difference.

Basically what I'm saying is that when when you spend money with a small business, you almost immediately play a crucial role in growing the national economy, which in the long run means more money in your own pocket. We all want our own income to grow, but we are all connected to each other, so we need others to have more money so that they can use the services we provide.

Everyone wins when you support a small business, but most of all, you win too! It just takes a little while for the wheel to turn.
So next time you need any kind of product or service, start by asking which quality small business you can support. This is how you use your spend to vote for the kind of world you want to live in.

Mark Sham

PS. We have created a website that acts as a directory of quality small businesses that can all be found in one place. It takes two seconds to check it out!
