Illegal Clinic Shut Down in Standerton
On 8 August, in a coordinated intelligence-led operation, an illegal clinic operating in Standerton's Central Business District (CBD) was closed down.
The operation, supported by the Standerton K9 Unit, Kasselman Security Services, the Department of Health, the Department of Home Affairs (Immigration), AfriForum, and Lekwa Local Municipality, was prompted by verified information provided by Standerton Crime Intelligence (CI).
The information was promptly verified, and the clinic, along with its identified operators, was monitored closely.
During the operation, a female was found inside the clinic.
Upon questioning, she revealed that she was hired as a caregiver and not a professional nurse, as required by law.
The operation uncovered various types of medication and medical equipment on the premises.
The Department of Health's regional office was immediately notified, and the case was escalated to the provincial office for further action.
Due to the absence of a valid practice number and the lack of qualified personnel, the clinic was ordered to cease operations.
The operation was deemed successful in preventing potential harm to the public from unqualified medical practices.
Standerton Sables Triumph Over Embalenhle in Chilly Winter Showdown
On the brisk afternoon of 29 June, the Standerton Sables Rugby Club clashed with Embalenhle at the Embalenhle Sasol Recreation Centre.
The wintry weather did little to dampen the spirits of the players and spectators, who were treated to a thrilling display of rugby.
In the Mayoral League match, the Standerton Sables I team showcased their dominance, securing a decisive victory with a final score of 33-7 against Embalenhle.
The Sables demonstrated skill and teamwork, leaving little opportunity for their opponents to mount a serious challenge. Their solid defense and dynamic offense were key factors in their comprehensive win.

Despite a valiant effort, the Barbarians fell short, losing 7-15.
Both games were a testament to the competitive spirit and camaraderie that define local rugby.

Grootdraai Dam's Water Level at 100.39% with No Sluice Gates Open
Grootdraai Dam's Water Level at 100.39% with No Sluice Gates Open
On 19 February, December Mbokazi, the Chief Water Plant Superintendent at Grootdraai Dam (GDD), revealed that the dam's water level is at 27.03 meters, equivalent to 100.39% of its total capacity.
According to Mbokazi, the inflow rate into the Grootdraai Dam stands at 1062 cubic meters per second, indicating a substantial volume of water entering.
Despite the high inflow rate, Mbokazi also confirmed that no gates have been opened.
The stats that were released by the Department of Water and Sanitation on 12 February the GDD’s level was at 97.0% where it was at 95.1% the previous week.
Despite the improvements in water levels the Department in Mpumalanga encourages the public to continue to use water wisely and sparingly and be more conservative taking into account that South Africa is water scarce and every drop counts as water has no substitute.
Note from Editor: You Don’t Have To Conquer The World, Cleanliness Begins At Home
Note from Editor: You Don’t Have To Conquer The World, Cleanliness Begins At Home
How fair is it that a clean town and environment falls only on the Lekwa Clean-up Crew and the Lekwa Municipality?
Cleanliness and tidyness begin at home!
Why is it necessary for an organisation to pick up 36 500 black bags full of garbage because residents and some businesses are too lazy to use a dustbin?
Rather than throwing an empty takeout wrapper in a dustbin, chuck it out of a window because that is the norm.
Rather than taking refuse bags to the landfill site, go dump them at the river park or any open field or in front of someone else’s home.
That is right out DISGUSTING!
How disgusting and sad is it that grown people must be told to behave themselves?
Remember your children are watching you while you are doing these things.
Some will say: “I pay for a service”, yes agree, but rather than being part of the solution some decide to be part of the problem.
Agreed, service delivery is not 100% up to par but has significantly improved.
The overall excuse was always we could not enter the landfill site, well that situation has changed tremendously.
Next excuse?
“I pay for my refuse to be removed.”
Oh so if there is a problem and it is not picked up you decide to just leave it outside.
“It is the dogs that tear the bags.”
Really who’s dogs are they, the resident's dogs, not LCUC and Lekwa Municipality’s dogs?
Take responsibility for your area!
You don’t have to take on the world!!
Begin at your home!
Look after your garden, and take care of your garbage, it is YOUR garbage after all.
Help a neighbour if they have difficulties, organise a street cleanup.
Keep your rubbish in your vehicle until you can throw it into a dustbin.
Man up!
Resident up!
Be the change you want to see and let's make Standerton a clean town to be proud of!
LCUC is a non-profit organisation operating solely on donations from the community and businesses.

South African Rugby Team Makes History as First Four-Time World Cup Champions
In a historic moment for South African rugby, the national team, Springboks, has etched its name in the archives of sporting greatness by becoming the first team to win the Rugby World Cup four times.
This is after the final score of 12-11 against New Zealand.
This remarkable achievement not only solidifies South Africa's dominance in the sport but also serves as a testament to the team's resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit.
Since their first World Cup victory in 1995, when South Africa hosted the tournament, the Springboks have consistently showcased their prowess on the global stage. Led by Francois Pienaar, the team's triumph in '95 was more than just a sporting victory.
The Springboks went on to claim their second World Cup title in 2007, under the leadership of John Smit, and their third in 2019, led by Siya Kolisi.
Siya lifted the Cup back to back.
Now, with their fourth World Cup win in 2023, the Springboks have firmly established themselves as the most successful team in the history of the tournament.
The road to the Springboks' fourth World Cup victory was not without its challenges.
The team faced formidable opponents throughout the tournament, including traditional rugby powerhouses such as New Zealand, England, and Australia.
However, the Springboks' unwavering determination and resilience propelled them to overcome these obstacles and emerge victorious.
Under the guidance of head coach Jacques Nienaber, the Springboks displayed a brand of rugby that combined physicality, tactical astuteness, and an unyielding team spirit.
Their dominant performances throughout the tournament showcased their ability to adapt to different game plans and execute them flawlessly.
One of the defining characteristics of the Springboks' success has been their ability to unite a diverse nation behind a common cause.
As the team looks ahead to future tournaments, they will undoubted

ENJOY A BRAAI ON HERITAGE DAY
Heritage Day on 24 September recognises and celebrates the cultural wealth of our nation. South Africans celebrate the day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa.
Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day.
Living heritage is the foundation of all communities and an essential source of identity and continuity.
Aspects of living heritage include cultural tradition, oral history, performance, ritual, popular memory, skills and techniques, indigenous knowledge system, and the holistic approach to nature, society, and social relationships.
In South Africa, the term “intangible cultural heritage” is used interchangeably with the term “living heritage”.
Living heritage plays an important role in promoting cultural diversity, social cohesion, reconciliation, peace, and economic development. In every community, there are living human treasures who possess a high degree of knowledge, skills, and history pertaining to different aspects of diverse living heritage.
It is therefore important for South Africans to reclaim, restore and preserve these various aspects of living heritage to accelerate the use of living heritage to address challenges communities are facing today.
The Department of Arts and Culture developed a draft policy on the South African living heritage.
Heritage Day is a public holiday in South Africa.
September 24 was previously known in South Africa as Shaka Day, a day commemorating the Zulu King of Shaka.
He was known for uniting the Zulu clan together and forming the Zulu nation.
Every year, South Africans would gather at his grave to honor him.
In 1995 a request for the day to be confirmed as an official holiday was rejected.
After receiving some pushback from the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), a majority Zulu party, it was decided that the day was needed and would be known as ‘‘Heritage Day.’’
Since then South Af
