*TWO MINORS ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY AND CAUGHT WITH A FIREARM*

*Nelspruit : 14 December 2025* - The Police in Acornhoek are investigating a case of armed robbery that occurred on 12 December 2025 in Happy Dam at Acornhoek.

According to a report, the complainant, aged 43, alleges that he was driving a taxi to his house and upon arrival, he parked outside the yard. Whilst getting out of the car, four armed males are said to have approached him then held him at gunpoint and disarmed him of his pistol. It is further alleged that the suspects robbed him of cash.

A case was subsequently opened and two of suspects, who are minors, both aged 16, were apprehended. Police are working collaboratively with Probation Officers as suspects are underage.

The two minors are faced with serious charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and their court appearance at the Acornhoek will be facilitated in collaboration with Probation Officers.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has vowed that Police will work diligently to ensure that the remaining two suspects are swiftly brought to justice. "We urge all members of the community to report any information about crime to the Police, " said the General.

*SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MURDER IN ACORNHOEK*

*Nelspruit :14 December 2025* - The Police in Acornhoek have arrested a suspect in connection with a murder incident that occurred at a certain tavern in Ka Zitha Trust within Acornhoek Policing Precinct on Saturday, 13 December 2025 around 06h00 am.

According to a report, the Police were informed about a male victim who was brought at the hospital with a stab wound but later died. Upon arrival in hospital, Police saw the lifeless body of victim hence a case of murder was opened and an investigation immediately commenced.

Whilst Police were busy with investigations, a suspect was brought to the Police Station by a family member. It was during this time when he was arrested and charged with murder.

The motive behind the murder is currently unknown and will form part of the investigation by the Police.

The suspect aged 26 is expected to appear at the Acornhoek Magistrate's Court soon, facing the said charge.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has commended the family members for the good gesture. The General further indicated that Police will continue with the investigation in order to uncover the truth as well as to ensure that justice is served.

*MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER*

*Nelspruit: 13 December 2025* - The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has welcomed the 28 years imprisonment handed down to Khutullo Sipho Sekgobela (27) for murder and attempted murder.

The sentencing was delivered by the Mpumalanga High Court in Mbombela on Thursday, 11 December 2025, following a thorough investigation of the case.

The court heard how the incident occurred on 07 April 2023 around 22h00 when four individuals (two males with their female friends) were coming from a certain tarven at Gamureku in Acornhoek, and these were Sekgobela, Jetro Mashile (40) as well as their female friends, one being 18 years old at the time.

Sekgobela is said to have assaulted his female friend. When Mashile tried to intervene, he was brutally stabbed on the chest with a knife. He then became unconscious. Mashile's female friend was also stabbed in the arm during the incident. The injured victims were transported to a local hospital but sadly, Mashile died in the hospital.

A case was opened and investigated by the Police. Sekgobela was traced and arrested in the Gauteng Province on 28 October 2024. He was charged for murder and attempted murder. He was convicted and sentenced as follows:

On Count 01 of murder, Sekgobela was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

On Count 02 of attempted murder, the accused was sentenced to 03 years imprisonment. The sentences will run concurrently.

The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the collaborative efforts displayed by the Investigation team, the Prosecution team, and the Judiciary, which led to this well-deserved sentence.

*FOREIGN NATIONAL CAUGHT WITH A LARGE QUANTITY OF PASSPORTS AND CASH*

*Nelspruit: 10 November 2025* - The multidisciplinary team, comprising of the Middelburg Flying Squad, Nkangala District Anti-Hijacking Team, and Waterval Boven SAPS, arrested a 43-year-old foreign national with a lot of passports and large sum of cash. This was achieved after acting on information received about a white Chevrolet Utility bakkie with a canopy. The said vehicle had Gauteng registration number plates. The astute members intercepted the car on 08 December 2025 around 13h00.

The team spotted the said vehicle and a search was carried out whereby the following items were found:

- 582 passports, some of which had some cash inside, hidden underneath compartment.
- A separate amount of cash of about R20 000, covered inside a black plastic bag.

Investigation thus far suggests that the driver was probably going to meet someone the next day to have the passports stamped. Police are of the view that the recovered cash was meant for payment.

The suspect, a Zimbabwean national and was charged for:

- Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.
- Fraud.
- Money Laundering.

The total amount of cash found in possession of the suspect is about R147 300.00. The bakkie driven by the suspect was also confiscated for further investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Waterval Boven Periodical Court, today, 10 December 2025 facing the said charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has commended the multidisciplinary team for their hard work and dedication. "We are following up this matter and will not leave any stone unturned. At this stage, the possibility of more arrests cannot be ruled out. We will ensure that those who are involved are brought to book, " said the General.

*UPDATE REGARDING THE ESCAPEES*

*FOURTH SUSPECT RE-ARRESTED*

The fourth suspect who escaped from lawful custody has been re-arrested after receiving a tip-off. He was on arrested at Kabokweni area today,04 December 2025.

France Malatjie (31) will be charged with escape from lawful custody and he will possibly appear at the Mashishing Magistrate's Court on Friday, 05 December 2025.

The police are still appealing to the community to assist in locating the two remaining suspects. Anyone with information can contact the Detective Branch Commander of Lydenburg SAPS on 076 060 0273, call 08600 10111, or use the MYSAPS APP.
