Happy Heritage Day! Let's celebrate the power of reading and the richness of our culture. We asked Refiloe Moahloli, the author of so many of our wonderful children’s books, what this day means to her and here’s what she had to say:
“We are forever in our heritage, we live in it, it’s an everyday thing. But I love having a day that highlights who we are, that brings out our languages. I think it’s especially important for our children because you know how at schools they make it an exciting event, ‘Dress up for heritage!’, and it’s in the highlighting for them that brings it to their awareness that who you are is to be celebrated. That’s what this is about. Celebrating who we are, and sharing it with others. In sharing it with others we allow for others to experience a bit of who we are and to see how we honour who we are. And importantly, we get to experience who others are, and get to honour who they are and find a way for us to co-exist in the diverse country, world, universe that we live in. Happy Heritage Day, everybody. May you keep celebrating who you are, every single day! ”
