Embracing diversity on International Mother Language Day!

Let's celebrate the beauty of linguistic richness and the power of reading in our mother tongue. Nurturing young minds with the language of their roots opens doors to a world of possibilities.

We promote the importance of mother tongue education through our partnership with the AVBOB Road to Literacy Campaign which aims to promote literacy and reading comprehension among children.

Our Oxford Bilingual Dictionary, with its comprehensive translations and language resources, supports mother tongue education by providing students with a tool to access and comprehend information in their native language to empower them to overcome language barriers and unlock their full potential.

Oxford University Press continuously works towards prioritising and investing in literacy to secure a brighter future for our children and societies.

22/11/2022

For the first time in our history, the final decision on the Oxford Word of the Year is being placed in the hands of the public around the world to mark a year that has been characterised by reunion, reconnection, and reopening, as well as by activism resulting from economic, social, and political change.

How we communicate and develop the English language affects our selection every year, but in 2022, the Word of the Year will be chosen by the people that shape language every single day: you. Our team of expert lexicographers have narrowed down a longlist of worthy contestants to a final choice of three words. Now, we’re asking you to vote for the word you feel best represents 2022.

Visit https://languages.oup.com/word-of-the-year/2022/ to find out which three words made the final selection, and vote for your favourite word to be crowned Oxford’s Word of the Year 2022. Voting will close at 00:01am on Friday 2nd December.
