The Sahelian empires were a series of centralized kingdoms and empires that were centered on the Sahel, the area of grasslands south of the Sahara, from the 8th century to the 19th. The wealth of the states came from controlling the trade routes across the desert. Their power came from having large pack animals like camels and horses that were fast enough to keep a large empire under central control and were also useful in battle. All of these empires were also quite decentralized with member cities having a great deal of autonomy.

There were integrated kingdoms and empires, with substantial cities and significant towns; and less organised territories with large scattered populations. People practised agriculture, stock-rearing, hunting, fishing, and crafts such as metalworking, textiles and ceramics. They navigated along rivers and across lakes, traded over short and long distances, and used their own currencies.

There were many kingdoms and empires in the Sahel with the three most powerful being the Empires of Ghana, Mali and Songhai. These kingdoms were among the wealthiest in the world in their times.

Hillbrow, the Ponte Building and Ellispark 🏉🇿🇦
The Ponte building is a skyscraper in the Berea district of Johannesburg, South Africa, just next to Hillbrow. It was built in 1975 to a height of 173 m (567.6 ft), and was the tallest residential skyscraper in Africa for 48 years, until overtaken in 2023 by Building D01, in Egypt's New Administrative Capital. The 55-storey building is cylindrical, with an open centre allowing additional light into the apartments. The centre space is known as "the core" and rises above an uneven rock floor. When built, Ponte City was seen as an extremely desirable address due to its location and views over Johannesburg, but it became infamous for its crime and poor maintenance in the late 1980s to 1990s. It has since been refurbished into a safe property. The neon sign on top of the building is the largest sign in the Southern Hemisphere.

American rapper Trick Daddy says he doesn’t identify as African-American 👀‼️

"I don't identify as an African. I've never been to Africa. I'm not from Africa. I was born and raised in America. I've never gone to Africa and I've never thought about going there. I heard it's a beautiful place, and I know it's the motherland but it's not my motherland. I don't understand how Afro came in front of my m*therf¥cking race"

This is the Village of 'Keffa', the Birthplace of COFFEE! Coffee took its name long ago from the African region of 'Keffa' located in Ethiopia about 4000 feet up in the Simien mountains. Keffa is actually a province on the southwestern side of Ethiopia; its capital city was Bonga. It was named after the former Kingdom of 'Kaffa'. The etymology of Kaffa is thought to be from 'qahwah' an Arabic word meaning "a drink from berries". The English word coffee is derived from the same root. Traditionally, the ground coffee is slowly stirred into the black clay coffee pot locally known as 'jebena'. And keeping true to African tradition, along with the 'Keffa' came the 'Keffa Ceremony'. What is life without Ceremonies?😊 If you are ever honored to be invited to a Coffee Ceremony, don't miss out, just GO! This is a Ceremony of Friendship. Usually, this Ceremony takes place in honor of guests coming to visit. The cool part? The ceremony is also performed on a very regular basis as a normal part of daily life, inviting family and friends over for regular company. It is usually performed by the beautiful ladies who are always wearing a certain magnetic regalia like these you see in the pics. The coffee ceremony also took on a spiritual aspect among the monks who would pray deep into the night. This was the Ethiopian way of enjoying coffee for centuries before it spread to the rest of the world. Ethiopia is the primary center of origin of the Arabica coffee plant. Coffee has been a global tradition for a long time in the modern world. But next time you find yourself sitting in a Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts, encourage them to put a big colorful mural on the wall to celebrate the beautiful African region and culture of Keffa, where it all started, and from where Coffee gets its name . . . "It is the deliberate omission of the contributions of aborigine people to the worlds civilization that created the need for a "black history month". Period!

A Wollof bride from The Gambia 🇬🇲.

A Wollof bride from The Gambia embodies a rich tapestry of tradition and culture that reflects the vibrant heritage of the Wolof people. The wedding ceremony is a grand celebration, steeped in customs that emphasize community, family, and spirituality. Traditionally, the bride wears a stunning outfit known as the "boubou," made from brightly colored fabric adorned with intricate embroidery, symbolizing her beauty and status.

The marriage process begins with the "nikkah," a religious ceremony where the couple exchanges vows in the presence of family and friends, emphasizing the sacred nature of their union. This is often followed by a lavish reception, featuring traditional music and dance, where guests celebrate with lively performances, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of the Wolof.

Food plays a central role, with dishes like "ceebu jen" (fish and rice) served to honor the couple and their families. The bride is also adorned with traditional jewelry, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.

Throughout the festivities, rituals such as the "demb" highlight the importance of community support in the couple's new life together. The Wollof wedding is not just a union of two individuals but a celebration of cultural identity, familial bonds, and the continuity of traditions that have been passed down through generations.

The Crystal Gallery in Swakopmund, Namibia, is home to one of the most breathtaking natural treasures in the world: the largest quartz crystal cluster ever discovered. This remarkable formation is a highlight of the museum, drawing visitors from around the globe to marvel at its immense size and beauty. The quartz cluster, weighing an astonishing 14,100 kilograms, showcases the incredible power of geological processes and the unique mineral wealth of Namibia.

Discovered in 1985, the crystal was found deep beneath the surface, at the bottom of a 45-meter-deep cave within the Otjua mine near Karibib, a region renowned for its mineral deposits. Extracting such a massive formation was no easy task; the process of excavation and removal took a dedicated team three arduous years to complete. The effort underscores the significance of the find and the challenges involved in preserving such a natural wonder.

Today, the quartz cluster stands proudly on display, its countless shimmering facets reflecting light in a dazzling array of colors. Visitors to the gallery can gain insight into the geological history of the area, the painstaking work involved in unearthing this massive crystal, and the broader significance of quartz and other minerals in Namibia’s rich mining heritage. The cluster is not just a marvel of size; it serves as a powerful symbol of nature’s artistry and the dedication of those who bring these treasures to light.

1. When politicians and civil servants steal state funds in many parts of the world, they get away with it, not in Burkina Faso.

Captain Traore did not only track down the thieves at the Humanitarian ministry, he confiscated the luxury cars, watches, homes and money they bought.

2. Then he put them on trial, & exposed them. This is how u instill the confidence of donors.

Traore was prepared to take a modest salary of $500 a month, why should someone take 100s of thousands of dollars

3. Generous citizens have contributed $220 Million so far to the state. How will they feel to hear that the money they contributed to building homes for the poor, providing free food, medicines and clothing, has been stolen.🖤🇧🇫🖤
