IT WILL NOT BE BUSINESS AS USUAL

Free State Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana, has today 14 March 2023, convened executive mayors, municipal managers (MMs), and other strategic senior managers from across municipalities.

The purpose of the engagement was to strengthen service delivery within municipalities, foster coordination between municipalities, the provincial government and water entities in line with the District Development Model (DDM).

It is through a coordinated approach that the three spheres of government can empower each other to bring solutions to these diverse challenges.

" We will not have our communities marching on the streets just to have water. We will not be a government that subjects our people to inhumane living conditions," Premier Dukwana Mxolisi

The Premier will later today, brief the media on the outcomes of the meeting.

Sometime in October, the council of Maluti-A-Phofung have appointed an interim board of directors composed of five members for MAP Water.

Terms of reference were:
> Bring stability in MAP Water
> Advertise for the appointment of full-time board of directors.

Recently there have been a power wrestling in the water entity. This was when the interim board of directors decided not extend the acting CEO contract, Peter Lephuthing. Instead the board of directors appointed one of the members W***y Lefora as Acting CEO. Unfortunately that didn't sit well with the executive mayor, Cllr Gilbert Mokotso who sent a communique reinstating Peter Lephuthing to acting CEO disregarding the resolution of BoD. The mayor further barred the interim board of directors from entering the premises of MAP Water. Also threatened to dissolution of the interim board in the communication he sent to board of directors.

The board of directors approached the court to intervene in this matter. The Bloemfontein High Court order in favour of the board of directors:
> Declared that W***y Lefora is the duly appointed Acting CEO of MAP Water.
> That the executive mayor to refrain from interfering with the duties of the interim board of directors.
> The executive mayor in his personal capacity is ordered to pay the cost of application.

*AN ACCIDENT CLAIMS THE LIFE OF AN MEC AND HIS PROTECTOR. THE DRIVER IS BEING TREATED AT HOSPITAL*

The Free State Emergency Services crews responded to an accident outside Winburg on the N1 earlier this morning at about 01:30am.

On arrival they found a light motor vehicle tha collided with 2 cows and 3 occupants were trapped inside it.

They used thejaws of life to free the occupants and unfortunately, 2 were declared dead on the scene- MEC for Education - Mr. Tate Makgoe and 1 Male Protector).

The 1 Male driver of the vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Winburg Hospital, for stabilisation; for later transportation to Bloemfontein.

STATEMENT ON RESIGNATION OF DEPUTY PRESIDENT DAVID MABUZA

1 MARCH 2023

The Presidency wishes to advise that Deputy President David Mabuza has resigned as a Member of Parliament, ending his term as Deputy President of the country.

This follows his request to President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down from the position of Deputy President, which the President announced in his reply to the State of the Nation Address on 16 February 2023.

On behalf of the government and people of South Africa, President Ramaphosa has extended gratitude and appreciation to Deputy President Mabuza for his exceptional service to the country over the last five years.

“The Deputy President has undertaken the responsibilities of his office with dedication. I am grateful for the support he has provided to me throughout his term and for the leadership he has provided to the work of government,” President Ramaphosa said.

“His contribution has been valued by the many constituencies with which he has engaged, including traditional leaders, military veterans, civil society formations and international bodies. As Leader of Government Business, he has ably managed the relationship between the Executive and Parliament, working to ensure that the transformative legislative programme of this administration is advanced,” he said.

President Ramaphosa will make an announcement in due course about the appointment of a new Deputy President.

*MEDIA STATEMENT* 29 July 2022 For Immediate Release *FIRE GUTS ANOTHER IN THABO MOFUTSANYANE DISTRICT* Yet another fire has broken out at Bluegumbush Secondary School in Qwa Qwa and burnt library,one office and three laboratory-turned-into classrooms. This leaves about 120 learners without desks. The lablution block were also burnt. The school has 1228 learners, 37 teachers and 18 classrooms. The principal of the school was alerted by Mayday alarm at 1:08am and around 1::30am, Deputy Principal and Assistant teacher tried to extinguished fire before it spread to other classes and adm block. No injuries have been registered. Police are investigating but arson is suspected to be the cause of the inferno. This is the second fire incident in Thabo Mofutsanyane District . It follows another fire that gutted the the entire Intuthuko Katleho Secondary School in Vrede last week. "We are deeply worried and we hope these incidents are not coordinated . The financial, educational and psychological implications to teachers and learners of having to loose their schools are too ghastly to contemplate," said Education Mec , Dr Tate Makgoe.
