FUEL PRISES ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE NEXT WEEK WEDNESDAY

Get ready for another increase in fuel prices next week Wednesday, as petrol prices are set to rise by up to 67 cents per litre. These new prices will come into effect at midnight on Tuesday.

According to Mineral Resources and Energy, the price of 93 unleaded petrol will go up by 65 cents per litre, while 95 unleaded petrol will increase by 67 cents per litre.

Diesel with higher sulphur content will see a three-cent increase, while low sulphur diesel will decrease by just over one cent per litre. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin is also expected to drop by 29 cents per litre. These price hikes are due to various factors, such as an increase in the slate levy, a higher carbon fuel levy, and rising international oil prices.

Department spokesperson Robert Maake explains that the adjustments are necessary because of the higher oil prices and a stronger rand. The slate levy has been imposed on both petrol and diesel, and there have been annual adjustments to pipeline and road transport costs.

Additionally, the Department of Finance has raised the carbon fuel levy on diesel and petrol. Prices in different zones may vary due to changes in transport costs.
