If you’re a hip-hop head then the name Bravo Le Roux isn’t foreign to you. Bravo Le Roux, real name Sinesipho Peter, is an award-winning rapper from Khayelitsha, in Cape Town.

Since he dropped a chart-topping hit with hip-hop star, Yanga Chief, he reached more milestone in his music career.

Bravo performed at Cotton Fest and had a successful national tour for his recent project “international Gubevu” and had multiple performances at Rands Cape Town.

He also made appearances on some of the big shows on TV and online platforms like Massive Music, Yo MTV Raps, Channel O Lockdown Party, Afternoon Express on SABC 3 and featured on SlikourOnLife.

GQ sat down with Bravo to have a chat about his music career and about his next move.

GQ: How did you get into the music industry?

Bravo Le Roux: To be honest I found myself in the industry. It was out of passion at first but then I started making a living out of it and just dropped everything else and focused on music.

GQ: What makes your music resonate with your fans?
BL: It’s 100% authenticity. It’s the stories of the township which I’m from and using the lingo with the lifestyle.

GQ: How did you come up with your stage name “Bravo Le Roux”?

BL: It’s actually a long story but I’m gonna try and make it short. My real name was never street enough, it’s a unisexual name so my friends from the township never approved it. I had a Karrimor backpack in primary and had ‘BRAVO’ tip-exed on it.
Traditionally in the township you grafitti your nickname on your backpack. When the gents saw Bravo on my backpack they just concluded that it was my name and started calling me that. “Le Roux” comes from me growing in the township and going to a white school.
I was never township enough because I went to a white school and I was never burbs/white because I was black and came from the township. I was stuck in two different worlds that didn’t mess with each other. They called me the black Le Roux and I chose to embrace it.

GQ: What are your biggest highlights so far?

BL: It’s the GQ article for sure, ha ha. Im
