The South African Chefs Association is excited to announce that entries for the ‘Plant-Based Chef of the Year’ competition are now open.

The competition will take place at the Goodlifeshowafrica happening from 31 May to 2 June 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Not only will the winners, in both the junior and senior categories, be named ‘Plant-Based ‘Chef of the Year’, but they will also be given the opportunity to take part in the 2028 Culinary Olympics.

ENTRIES FOR S.PELLEGRINO YOUNG CHEF ACADEMY COMP ARE OPEN!

S.Pellegrino has announced the 6th edition of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition, the global initiative to discover and mentor the most promising and talented young chefs.

“The last edition marked a record in participation with over 166 chefs passing the preliminary selections amongst the 15 regions involved. Seeing so many young talents willing to bring their best through hard work and passion, and to see them join our mission makes us proud. This makes us believe even more in this project and we can’t wait for the new edition to start,” said Stefano Bolognese, Sanpellegrino's International Business Unit Director.

Young chefs under 30 years of age will have the chance to register on http://sanpellegrinoyoungchefacademy.com/the-competition/application-form until 19 June 2024, by submitting the recipe of a signature dish that communicates their personal vision, unique skills, and creativity. As with previous editions, the first selection phase will be evaluated by ALMA, the International School of Italian Culinary Arts. ALMA will define a shortlist of young chefs who will participate in the Regional Finals that will take place across the globe through the second half of 2024.

Regional winners will compete at the Grand Finale event to win the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Award 2024-25. To win the title, the chefs must impress the global Grand Jury – an esteemed panel of internationally renowned chefs – by demonstrating unrivalled technical abilities as well as true creativity.

How beautiful are these pastries 😍

They're from Chef Pâtissier Jared Melamed, a South African chef who is shaking up Joburg's patisserie scene with La Tarte. He bakes from his ghost kitchen in Sandton, crafting delights such as Paris Brest, Tartelettes au Choux Noisette and Charlottes aux Fruites Rouge. Naturally, La Tarte has gained acclaim, drawing praise from Johannesburg's French community and beyond!

Jared aims to secure a dedicated space for his creations, but until then you can order online via [email protected], and visit Johannesburg’s Morningside Market every Friday and Saturday, Prison Break Market every Saturday or Sunday, or Le Marche Market on the first Saturday of every month.

Exciting news from the RCL FOODS Young Chef & Baker Challenge 2023! 🍽️👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

18 talented young chefs and bakers battled it out in a culinary showdown, showcasing South Africa's culinary excellence. The top spot went to Catherine Sainsbury and Robert Zituta from Silwood School of Cookery, who wowed the judges with their skills and took home a well-deserved prize of R30,000.

Amaara Sulaiman and Lalana Santana Pillay from Capsicum Culinary Studio secured the runner-up position, winning R20,000, while Marna Brandt and Macaela Ntuli from CTIA - Chefs Training & Innovation Academy claimed third place with R15,000.

Chef Bradley Kavanagh of RCL FOODS highlighted the importance of such competitions in uplifting culinary standards and inspiring young chefs to pursue successful careers.

This year's competition featured a stellar lineup of talent, with a panel of esteemed South African Chefs Association judges. The event was a resounding success, emphasising the importance of nurturing young culinary talent in South Africa. 🌟👏
