Real Facts

Real Facts As a team of young South Africans we have grown up through the unique transition and exciting times of the democracy of South Africa. We all stand for PEACE.

In the eyes of many, including us, the majority of this transition has been due to the selfless work, perseverance and commitment of many important individuals with peace in the world as their shared vision and common goal. RealFacts shares this vision, a vision shared by individuals who care. We emanate diversity at our very core but share one thing in common - a desire to spread the truth and fa

cts about the situation in Middle East. All being former students in Johannesburg, constantly at the forefront of prejudice on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we wanted to create a platform where normal people who lead normal lives can come educate themselves with , with no bias and with no ulterior motives. We all want PEACE in the world. We all want to know and share . Welcome to !

Pony Ma, CEO and founder of the Chinese social media giant Tencent, started off by creating a clone of online instant messaging service ICQ in 1998 (it was even originally called OICQ before changing its name to QQ).

QQ was, and still is, the engine room which Tencent used to build their global business which today is one of the most valuable companies in the world with a market capitilisation north of $400bn.

ICQ was created in 1996 by Israeli company Mirabilis which was acquired by AOL in 1998. At the time, it was the record highest price paid for an Israeli tech company.

In 1967, Israel fought the famous Six-Day War. Three of Israel's neighbours - Egypt, Jordan and Syria - were mounting a war against Israel. Some 100,000 Egyptian troops were sent to the Sinai desert, just south of Israel's border, which alerted Israeli intelligence. Israel fought against all three countries simultaneously, defeating them comprehensively in just 6 days.

The IDF (Israel Defense Force) overran the Sinai Peninsula from the Egyptians, captured the entire West Bank of the River Jordan with the culminating victory being the capture of the Old City of Jerusalem.

Although it was an accomplished victory by Israel, which allowed Israel to take control of East Jerusalem, it brought about the major political issues that Israel currently faces - control of the Gaza Strip (formerly of Egypt) and the West Bank (formerly of Jordan).

On the 29th of November 1947, the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine was adopted after the United Nations General Assembly voted 33 to 13 in favour of the resolution. The resolution recommended the creation of independent Arab and Jewish States over British mandated Palestine, a termination of the British mandate and the withdrawal of British armed forces. (See picture below).

The plan was accepted by the Jewish Agency for Palestine, despite its perceived limitations. Arab leaders and governments rejected it and indicated an unwillingness to accept any form of territorial division, arguing that it violated the principles of national self-determination in the UN Charter which granted people the right to decide their own destiny.

Immediately after adoption of the Resolution by the General Assembly, a civil war broke out and the plan was not implemented.

Six months later, on the 14th May 1948, Jewish leaders in the region formed the state of Israel. The British troops left and the next day, the new state was invaded by the armies of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq. And thus began Israel's long and hard War of Independence.

The War of Independence was concluded by the signing of armistice agreements between Israel and the surrounding Arab states. Israel was left in control of 78 percent of mandatory Palestine - around 50 percent more than it had been allocated in the partition plan. The remaining 22 percent was split between Jordan (West Bank and East Jerusalem) and Egypt (Gaza Strip). An independent Palestine was never established, and no Arab state recognised Israel’s existence.

The German Parliament on Friday became the first in the European Union to pass a symbolic resolution that designates the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, or BDS movement against Israel as anti-Semitic.

The nonbinding vote said the campaign to boycott Israeli products, along with the movement’s “Don’t Buy” stickers, recalled “the most terrible chapter in German history” and revived memories of the N**i motto “Don’t buy from Jews.”

The mandate for Palestine was for the British administration of the territories of Palestine and Transjordan, both of which had been conceded by the Ottoman Empire following World War I. The mandate was assigned to Britain in April 1920 following France's concession of the previously agreed "international administration" over Palestine. There were less than 700,000 people living in Palestine at the time, made up of Muslims, Jews, Christians and other religions.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH - DO's and Don't DO's
South Africa is changing. Its vital that you educate yourself regarding new policy in respect to what is considered freedom of speech - especially when it comes to having a different opinion as to where you appropriate the blame of a country being a 'sh*t hole". This illustration will assist you in understanding the very subtle differences between free speech and hate speech.
