MOMENTUM METROPOLITAN HOLDINGS BREATH A NEW LEASE OF LIFE TO GA-LEDWABA YOUTH

By NAKAMPE LEKWADU
EMPOWERING yourself with education can change your family from a disadvantaged background and on top of that no one can take away your education. These were the words of Claire Klaasen, the Consumer Financial Education Financial Educator at Momentum Metropolitan Holdings.
Klaasen was speaking during a well-attended Sharing Information event organized by Zebediela Youth on the Move which was held at Ga-Ledwaba village in the Zebediela area last week.
“It is your responsibility to turn your family’s fortune around, and that you can only do it if you empower yourself with education,” she said.
Klaasen who was accompanied by co-league, Sazi Dube took the audience through financial education such as the importance of saving.
“It is so sad that most people don’t know how to save money whenever they have it. All they know is to spend and forget the worst that might come with tomorrow when they will need that money and more so because they can’t separate the needs and wants. A classic example of this is the month of December where people just spend relentlessly and then only to encounter problems in January when they need money most for school’s needs for their kids,” she added.
FNB’s Moshibudi Sebola echoed on Klaasen and Dube’ sentiments, adding that according to the statistics, in each 100% only 76% of people finish their salaries or any income long before month end and that lead them to get loans from loan sharks.
“It is against this background that we at FNB have come up with Financial Programme to help people on categories such as managing their finances, managing their debts, managing their insurances and managing their wills,” said Sebola
Also present at the event were representatives of Future Families who also highlighted their progamme to the audience about pressing matters such as Gender Based Violence Prevention.
The organization deals with ladies aged between 20 and 24 whom they engaged in a training programme such as , Economic Strengthening of which they get certificates upon completion before they could be handed over to IDC led by Tiisetso Matabane, a Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality’ Sub-District who highlighted issues in the area of Post Violence Care such as HIV and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

“When these young women are brought to our department, we give them an opportunity of working two days for a month of which they get stipend,” added Matabane.
Zebediela Youth on the Move’ Sharon “Shazy” Ledwaba who was the brain behind the evident was excited excited about the development, saying: “This was one of a fruitful event in our area where stakeholders came positively as all of them have made commitment to assist the youth in this area with their programme and in return award them with certificates. Apart from that they also promised to award internships to the lucky ones with the hope that they will get permanent jobs.”
Sharon said the biggest moment was signing a Memorandum of Understanding between herself, his Majesty Kgoshi Ledwaba and Momentum Metropolitan Holdings.
“In brief, the agreement is that Momentum Metropolitan Holding are going to provide us with Youth Programme here at Ga-Ledwaba for a longer period with the intension of empowering them, give them internships where possible with an ultimate goal as to provide the lucky ones with jobs if such opportunity arise,” said the excited Sharon.

Julius Malema showers the queen with a brand new bakkie
Hate him or love him, his reasoning capacity is on another level. Julius Malema can’t be ignored, he’s very necessary in our politics. He's a true Pan Africanist. He takes no prisoners. He speaks the truth to power. Julius Malema is a force to be reckoned with. Today it's the CIC's birthday and his followers are showering him with well wishes. Birthday messages are pouring in for the EFF leader who turned 42 today, with many acknowledging him for his commitment to EFF's modern revolution.
Malema is having the time of his life in Mohlaletse village, outside Ga-Nkoane, Limpopo where he was spotted celebrating his birthday with the Queen of Bapedi. Malema also handed over a bakkie and a borehole to the royal family. How generous of him! The Queen made headlines when the Bapedi Royal Family made an appeal a Polokwane High Court judgment, which declared she had been illegally appointed as regent. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema then promised that he will help the queen with legal representatives to restore her as acting queen.
Malema said he was disturbed by the fact that Queen Thulare was being undermined as she is a woman. “The Queen of Bapedi, the mother of the King must be allowed to act. We must show them that you cannot harass a woman and expect us as a society to keep quiet. We must never keep quiet when a woman is being harassed because they think she’s powerless. So, we need to give her a support,” Malema said back then. It is not surprising to see the queen hosting Malema as he has been quite supportive of her.
The party’s deputy president and chief whip, Floyd Shivambu, wrote: “Happy Birthday President ! May God bless and protect you to see many more revolutionary years! We are entering the decisive phase of our revolution now and will need God’s protection, grace and guidance! The mission remains economic freedom in our lifetime!”- Content created and supplied by: Mmapula (via Opera News)

LIMPOPO SOPA: A MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO ADRESS THE FAT RAT IN THE
PUBLIC PURSE

I am one of those who waited in anticipation to hear what the future holds for Limpopo province. Indeed, February 23rd arrived and the Premier of Limpopo Stan Mathabatha did not disappoint. He delivered the State of the Province Address wherein numerous pointers regarding performance of the Limpopo administration in the previous years were made and further highlighted the road head. Given the frustrating levels of unemployment rate and poverty levels which currently sits a 69,5%, it is encouraging to hear that big business like ZZ2 and many others continue to pledge funds to uilding infrastructure projects for poverty alleviation. In addition, it was also pleasing to hear that the government of Limpopo has recorded numerous improvements when it comes to good governance, this included the recent improvements on the way municipalities manage their finances. It was long overdue.
Fascinating as these developments may sound, I took it upon myself to do a quick scan of the previous SOPAs delivered by the same Premier, and my intention was to compare reality versus the promises made and I thought the Premier would prove me wrong. It is regrettable that most of the projects announced in the previous SOPAs ‘are there but they are not there’. A classic example here is the forsaken ‘white elephant’ stadium in Senwamokgope area, the only township in Sekgosese. Until today that project remain a grazing field for animals, and everybody is mum.
During the 2022 SOPA, Premier Mathabatha announced that the rehabilitation of D11 Road, connecting from GaMamaila Kolobetona to the R18 is 58% complete.
Sure, but what about its quality? Perhaps we should leave this question to the regular users of that road to answer, and these include some ANC politicians and senior officials in the state agencies who are working close to premier. The road doesn’t look new at all!
Delivery of quality services nor infrastructure by government deserves a dedicated piece on its own. However, my observation is that poor quality is often perpetuated by the fact that contractors and consultants are treated with white gloves. In fact, this is one of the problems that the Premier has negated in almost all his SOPAs. That is, the extent to which Limpopo government has adopted a consultocratic approach in its tranches of administration. Consultocracy refers to overreliance on consultants by government agencies. Consultants’ presence means a doubled payroll because government will have to pay employees and the consultants for the job meant to be done by its employees. The PSA in Mopani District Municipality correctly characterised the consulting practices as money – making scheme whereby politicians and officials and the business elites collude in darkness to steal public funds without making any positive outcome to the general populace.
It is very sad that the multinational corporates have found a new home in the provincial administration of Limpopo. Millions of rands meant for service delivery is lost through consultantship in the public service. In 2021-2022 municipalities spent close to R 1,2 billion on consultancies to only realise little improvements. It could be possible that the improvements recorded by the public service as proudly announced by the Premier today were because of the external support bought from consultants.
For a province that is struggling financially, this is not encouraging but consultants do not care because theirs is profit making more than anything. A certain scholar from the University of Limpopo described a consultant as ‘a person who borrows your watch and then charges you to tell you what time it is’. Indeed, this is a rat that is eating in the public purse and the premier of Limpopo missed an opportunity to address it on Thursday. Apart from all these, my only hope is that Stan Mathabatha delivers on the promises he made during the SOPA because Limpopo needs more than just a promise.

Arthur Shopola is attached to the Department of Public Administration in the North West University, Mafikeng Campus.

PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES THE ARREST OF POLICE SERGEANT AND WARRANT OFFICER FOR ALLEGEDLY SELLING A CASE DOCKET

THE Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of two Police members attached to Sekgosese police station in Mopani District. The two, a Warrant Officer and a Sergeant were arrested yesterday (Tuesday February 7) at their workplace.

Members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from the victim alleging that he received a call from one of the police members demanding a gratification amounting to R15 000.00 to cancel a case docket. After paying R10 000.00, the members reportedly insisted on getting the balance.

The suspects were arrested soon after receiving the balance.

"The majority members of the South Aftican Police Service are passionate about the work they do and are always abiding by the laws of the country and the SAPS Code of Conduct. The arrested police members must be treated like any suspects as the Police Service does not have space for such members masquerading as police officers," said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspects were expected to appear in Morebeng magistrate court today.

POLICE ENBARK ON UNFAMILIAR INVESTIGATIONS AFTER DECEASED'S BODY WAS ALLEGEDLY DUG OUT OF GRAVE AND STOLEN

THE Police at Mokwakwaila in the Mopani District have launched unusual investigations of violation of grave and theft of the co**se after the body of the deceased was dug out of the grave and stolen by unknown suspect(s) at Senakwe Section in Mokwakwaila policing area.

One of the family members had on Sunday, February 5, reportedly gone to the cementry to clean the gravesite in preparation for the upcoming gathering of unveling of the tombstone, when she discovered that the grave was dug open, and the co**se stolen. She then alerted family members and Police were also notified.

The Police, when arriving at the scene, they were met by the unusual site of the violated grave having a hole and an open coffin with no co**se inside.

Preliminary probe conducted at the scene established that the suspect(s) accessed the graveyard by cutting the side fence. They then dug a hole next to the grave, accessed the coffin and stole the co**se.

Modike Philemon Masedi whose body was stolen, reportedly died on 15 January 2022 and was buried seven days later on the 22nd. The motive for this incident is unknown at this stage.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed shock at what happened at the said graveyard and has ordered that the perpetrator(s) be hunted down and brought to book.

"We call on community members in the area to respect the unfolding investigations conducted by the police and desist from pointing fingers as these often play into instigators of vigilantism in which people take the law into their own hands," concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.

Cases of violation of grave and theft were opened. Anyone with information that can assist in th
