MEDIA STATEMENT
TRIBUTE AT THE FUNERAL OF LATE NKOSI: S.D. Swelindawo(Aah! Dumalisile!)
Members of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa( COTRALESA) in the Eastern Province i. e. KINGS AND Queens under the banner of their organisation paid its last respect to one of its founder members Nkosi S.D. Swelindawo(AaH! Dumalisile!) and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and ama Mbalu clan at the funeral of Nkosi S.D. Swelindawo on Saturday 16 January 2016.
Nkosi Mwelo Nonkonyana, the Provincial Chairman paid tribute to the late Nkosi as follows:-
DEFENDER AND PROTECTOR OF THE INSTITUTION OF TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP
As one of the founder members of Contalesa kwa Rharhabe region he defended the institution of traditional leadership at the time when many condemned it and electing Resident Associations and humiliating late King Maxhobayakhawuleza Sandile. Through his courage Contralesa succeeded in defending the institution including re instatement of headmen that were removed by Brig Gqozo regime.
BORN AND DIED IN DIFFICULT TIMES
Born in 1927 when Apartheid regime passed what it called Kaffir laws that demeaned the institution of traditional leadership in reaction to the decision of traditional leaders in forming the African National Congress on 08 January 1912.
Ironically he died a day after ANC government put King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo in prison against the decision of Contralesa in opposing the move.
PLEA TO PRESIDENT TO PARDON KING DALINYEBO
He reiterated that Contralesa has issued a reminder to the office of the President as his organisation does not want ANC Government to have a stigma of having incacerated a reigning King and son of late King Sabata Dalindyebo that was ill treated by Transkei regime and died in exile. He told the mourners that traditional leaders believe that justice has not be seen to have been done by such act as victims want compensation and royal family divided on the matter and the person who should take over Kingship whilst the King is in prison.
He angrily reacted to the Daily Dispatch newspaper that reported yesterday that king was treated well and living in luxury in East London prison. He stated that the delegation of Contralesa went to prison last Friday and what was reported is a false propaganda and did not reveal details of the visit.
He stated that should anything wrong happen to the King, Contralesa will not forgive ANC government.
REACTION TO SACP ( Eastern CAPE)
The chairman reacted for the first time to a statement issued by the SACP in Eastern Cape attacking Contralesa in its opposition to the incacration of the King.
He rebuked SACP by attacking Contralesa instead of seeking clarity to it first . He minded SACP that only ANC is the leader of both the Mass Democratic movement of which Contralesa is part as well as the Alliace. He stated that he has been observing ultra leftists within SACP that want to discredit ANC thinking that such elements would take over government in South Africa once ANC loses its popular support. He called upon SACP to correct the stance taken by Eastern Cape structure and also called upon all parties to support the desire of Contralesa to release the King and to begin reconciliation process that must lead to true justice and needed stability in the kingdom.
MUNICIPAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT 2016
Nkosi Nonkonyana thanked Mayor of Peddie who represented the government for kind words about the institution. He revealed that the provincial leadership met ANC leadership led by Deputy President Ramaphosa in Mthatha recently who promised that Councillors elected by their structures will be presented to traditional communities for the support and expressed the hope that ANC would not undermine the wish of the communities as traditional leaders are eager to work with councillors who respect the institution for delivery of needed services in their respective areas. He also revealed that Contralesa PEC would meet on Monday 18 January 2016 and decide on the date for its Provincial General Council early this year where it is expected to discuss amongst other things the issue of Contralesa contesting elections in reaction to numerous concerns raised by Contralesa since the advent of democracy in South Africa that remain unresolved including the enactment of SPLUMA that threatens removing power of traditional leadership institution in the administration of land in traditional communities.
He vowed that those Ward Councillors who undermined traditional leaders and some people who are disrespectful will not be endorsed by their traditional communities and Contalesa will be forced to field its own candidates.
