15 houses gutted in Ha-Gumbu village : MEC condemned the acts

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Mme Florence Radzilani, has condemned with the strongest terms, the unrest that took place around Gumbu Village in Masisi, in which around 15 houses had been gutted by fire.

An Official of the Department, who was at the scene, confirmed that this spate of violence, is related to the killing of the local headman, who was reportedly killed earlier this week.

MEC Radzilani has called for calm and restraint, amongst the residents, and appealed with them to desist from acts of violence, that have the potential to spill into a civil war.

What is more concerning, according to MEC Radzilani, ‘is that the violence has also saw Police Vehicles also being torched’.

MEC Radzilani has welcomed the intervention by the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, who have dispatched a battalion of Officers from various Units, including the Tactical Response Team, to quell the violence.

In the words of the MEC, ‘this unwarranted violence, undermines the great work that Government and organs of civil society are doing, to preserve peace and stability, in the Province’.

The MEC said that, ‘Community members should allow law enforcement officers to do their job, and anyone who undermines the authority of the Police, should meet the might of the wrath of the law’.

Mabirimisa Bus accident: Number of fatalities rises to 22.

This is after the South African Police Service divers have discovered another body at the bus accident scene which brings the number of fatalities to twenty-two (22).

Police divers went back to the culpable homicide scene this morning, 16 February 2023, after a family came forward reporting that they could not locate a loved one who was on the Mabirimisa bus that plunged into Phandanama river along the N1 near Hendrik Verwoerd tunnel, after a head-on collision with a cash-in-transit van on 13 February 2023.

BUS ACCIDENT CLAIMS TWENTY LIVES

Twenty people (20) were tragically killed in an accident, where a cash-in-transit truck lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming bus.

The accident happened at around 17h00 on Monday, 13 February 2023 on road N1- 29 Mashovhela, towards Musina in Vhembe District.

10 passengers are reported to have sustained serious injuries, 16 moderate, and 35 minor injuries. Passengers with injuries were transported to Makhado, Elim, and Siloam hospitals for medical attention.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The road is now open for traffic. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

The Police diving team has activated to search the nearby river for people who might have been swept away.

ROAD CLOSURE

Motor vehicle accident involving a bus on the N1 northbound, after Hendrik Verwoerd tunnel towards Musina. Details of the accident are not immediately available.

The road is currently closed for emergency services to attend to the scene. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes including Witvlag or exercise patience if unable to change the route.

POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR THE KILLERS OF TRADITIONAL LEADER OF GUMBU VILLAGE AT MASISI

The Police at Masisi in the Vhembe District have launched a manhunt for the suspect(s) after the local Headman, Takalani Andries Gumbu of Gumbu village was gunned down in front of his house last night on Sunday 12 February 2023.

The victim aged 40, reportedly arrived home at about 22:00 on Sunday evening and soon after getting out of his motor vehicle, he was shot and killed by unknown suspect(s) who fled the scene on foot soon after the incident.

The Police were called and on arrival, the victim was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gun shot wounds. He was certified dead on the scene.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered that a team of investigators comprising members of the Provincial murder and robbery unit visit the scene and immediately assist in the unfolding investigations.

"The suspects must be hunted down and brought to book. We call on community members with information to come forward," said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage and police investigations are continuing.

Ex-boyfriend wanted in connection with murder and attempted murder.

The Police in Levubu have intensified a manhunt for the suspect responsible for the murder a 77-year-old woman and an attempted murder of her daughter aged 32 in an apparent domestic violence incident that took place on 21 January 2023 at about 01:00 in Mashau Bodwe village outside Louis Trichardt.

It is alleged the deceased together with her daughter and her three children were asleep when her daughter's alleged ex-boyfriend forcibly entered the house and started to hack both women with a panga.The suspect then forced their five year old child into the vehicle belonging to his mother (ex-girlfriend) and drove away.

Both victims were taken to hospital after they sustained severe injuries. Consequent to the horrific incident, Police opened two counts of attempted murder, kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle. A manhunt for the suspect was immediately activated.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Makhado and soon after that the child was also safely located at his father's homestead in Mashamba village but the suspect had disappeared.

Sadly, the 77-year-old woman, later succumbed to the injuries and the attempted murder case was changed into murder. She was identified as Rose Mabasa

Police are calling upon Mr Mthandazo Joseph Baskete (pictured below) from Mashamba village in Mukondeni outside Louis Trichardt who was a taxi driver in the area to report to the nearest police station as they believe he can assist the Police with the investigation in this matter.

POLICE INVESTIGATES AN INQUEST CASE FOLLOWING AN ALLEGED SU***DE OF A MENTAL HEALTHCARE USER AT HAYANI PSYCHATRIC HOSPITAL

Police are investigating an inquest case following an incident in which a mental health care user allegedly committed su***de by habging himself inside one of the service duct at Hayani Psychatric Hospital. The deceased was admitted at the facility following a history of violence that includes attempts to murder some of his close family members. Following his admission, the department had hoped that he will be assisted to get better like many other mental health care users who get better and be reunited with their families after being rejected by families and communities. Unfortunately he passed on before he could be helped.

The deceased had been reported missing at the hospital since Tuesday, 24 January 2023, and an intense search was conducted throughout the week by the hospital and also the SAPS K9 unit. His family was immediately informed, and messages were circulated to the public in an endeavor to find him.

On Saturday the 29th of January, security personnel sensed a bad smell coming from one of the service duct passages. They broke down the door that was locked from inside, and that is when the deceased's body was discovered having used a bed sheet to allegedly hang himself.

Police and Forensic Pathology were called to the scene, and the family was also notified. Psychologists have been dispatched to help the family deal with the loss of the loved one in such a manner. The department sent condolences to the family of the deceased.

POLICE APPREHEND FOURTH SUSPECT LINKED TO THE MURDER OF THOHOYANDOU LAWYER

A team of investigators assigned to probe the murder of late Mr Mbambadzeni James Manwadu (46), a prominent attorney attached to the Legal Aid South Africa in Thohoyandou, has made a breakthrough in arresting the deceased's wife after positively linking her to the incident.

Police had initially arrested three suspects in connection with the murder, bringing the arrests to four in total.

The 43-year-old suspect was traced and arrested last night, January 17 in Tshakuma village under Vhembe District by members of Vhembe Trio Crimes Task Team

Manwadu was gunned down in front of his home in Maniini Block K on Sunday night, 16 January 2022 at about 20:30. He arrived home on the night of the incident, and as he was getting out of his motor vehicle to open the gate, he was reportedly approached by two suspects, who shot him several times.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the team for the excellent work.

Zwidofelangani Manwadu, who is the wife of the deceased, has appeared in Thohoyandou Magistrate Court today, facing charges of murder. She was remanded in custody until 03 February 2023 for legal representation. The other three suspects will appear in court on Friday 20 January 2023.

A manhunt was launched after a man allegedly murdered a woman in Mukula village.

The Police in Thohoyandou have intensified a manhunt for the suspect following the gruesome discovery of the lifeless body of a 35 year-old woman who was found murdered in Mukula village on Tuesday 03 January 2023.

The victim, identified as Avhurengwi Rambuda was allegedly last seen at her home in Mukula village on 30 December 2022. On Tuesday 03 January 2023 at about 21:00, the victim's body was discovered by a relative wrapped with a blanket and placed on the seat of an unused pit toilet. She was found chopped all over her body with a sharp object and her wrist was also missing.

*Azwimpheleli Mashau* is requested by the Police to avail himself at the nearest police station in order to assist with the investigations.

SIX LIVES LOST IN A DEVASTATING ACCIDENT IN MAKHADO.

A motor vehicle accident on the N1, south of Makhado near Lalapanzi Hotel in Vhembe District, has claimed six lives.

A light motor vehicle is reported to have collided head-on with a light delivery vehicle after overtaking on a barrier line at 21h00 on Sunday, 18 December 2022.

Four women and two men were declared dead at the scene. Four other people who sustained injuries were transported to nearby health facilities for medical attention.

Law enforcement officers at the scene cited reckless driving as possible cause of the crash.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani sends condolences to the bereaved families.

"This has been a bloody weekend on our roads. Our hearts are heavy. People have lost lives in different kinds of vehicles and others while walking.

This a painful but also opportune time to implore all road users to never get tired of heeding the call to always obey the rules of the road, for everyone to arrive alive. Let us be mindful of the decisions we take on the road and their impact on others before we act, "said MEC Radzilani.
