VHEMBE DISTRICT WATER SERVICES BY PRIVATE SUPPLIER ON THE CARD

THOHOYANDOU-Vhembe district municipalities held its Integrated Development Planning (IDP) meeting at the Vhembe District Council Chamber in Thohoyandou on Wednesday, February 14.

During the seating, there were concerns raised about service providers selling water to different communities.

It is alleged that they are blocking District water projects to provide water for free to communities.

MMC Technical Services Cllr Munyai N.S proposed that the district must enforce By-laws that will assist with regulations of services provided by private sectors in the absence of the municipality.

The by-laws will assist municipalities to have control over such matters. Cllr Munyai N.S also touched on the issue of illegal connections that the community is forever doing in different water reservoirs. It has been said that it creates complications in the supply of water to other communities.

Vhembe district executive mayor Cllr Nkondo T.F gave the way forward where she indicated that all presented issues will be attended to with immediate effect. '
