TAXI ASSOCIATION MEMBERS IN CUSTODY FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

Serious Violence detectives from the Ivory Park SAPS have today, 21 June 2022, arrested four (4) men from the Ivory Park Local Taxi Association for attempted murder.

“The four suspects are alleged to have violently beaten a local man and later doused him with petrol after they accused him of stealing an Ipad belonging to one of the suspects' children”, said Captain Ben Matimulane the spokesperson of the Ivory Park SAPS.

“The victim, who is currently fighting for his life in hospital, was picked up from a car wash in Clayville's Extension 45 and taken to their taxi offices in Mayibuye where he was handcuffed and beaten to a pulp.” Matimulane said.

“During the assault they continued to demand the Ipad an accusation that the victim vehemently denied. He was taken back to Clayville, whereby paraffin was bought and poured on the victim and subsequently set alight.” Matimulane added.

The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has condemned this barbaric act and is adamant that these kind of actions will not be tolerated in Ivory Park.

"This level of cruelty should be dealt with decisively to ensure that all organisations and associations are subject to the rules which we are all subjected to. Mob mentality cannot be tolerated," said Brigadier Ngcobo

The Brigadier has thanked the witnesses who ensured that, despite the fact that the victim cannot open a case, statements were taken thus leading the police to these arrests

The four, whose ages range from 28 to 48, will be charged with attempted murder and are expected to answer to this charge in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court.

TWO PEOPLE DROWNED TO DEATH DURING CHURCH BAPTISM

GA-MANTHATA - In yet another incident of drowning similar to the one that took place in the Mogol river in Lephalale last week on Sunday 12 June 2022, in which a Pastor and a church member drowned during the process of baptism, two baptismal candidates drowned in the Masetheko dam under Maleboho policing area on Sunday 19 June 2022.

A Pastor was reportedly busy conducting baptismal ritual in the said dam when four people who were to be baptised fell into the dam. One of them managed to swim out, the other (a woman) was rescued and the remaining two drowned.

The two bodies were retrieved by divers from the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit on the same day at about 16h30. The deceased were identified as Elvis Ramakgaphola (21) and Michael Rampa (29) of Mohodi Ga-Manthata village.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has once more highlighted the potential dangers associated with stagnant water in the rivers and dams and warn community members about the alarming situation of drowning incidents taking place in the Province, especially during religious activities.

“Members of the community are cautioned to be careful and wary when using dams and rivers for any purpose, including religious activities,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

Two cases of Inquests has been opened and police investigations are continuing.
