We witnessed some of the East Rand's meanest Veedubs at the 8V Performance dyno day, in conjunction with Kreetec Engineering. Sarel Eloff and his team had their hands full when two Opel party-crashers arrived later in the day, the strongest being Neelan Vallen's Kadett with 472kW, and Kalen Arumugam's black Superboss with 434kW. The strongest Golf made 406kW. The well supported event boasted a large number of competitors, which included 25 Mk1 Golfs in various states of tune. Sadly, no turbo Hondas but thankfully Batty ate a boerie roll to drown his sorrows. Full results and more photos to follow in the next edition of Speed and Sound!

Donovan Naicker from Race-Art SA is no stranger to the custom car scene and some of his amazing builds have graced these pages before. His latest creation entailed buying a complete Audi R8 Spyder just to use the 5.2L V10 motor, and then shoehorning it into a mint Audi S2 Quattro. The lump was adapted to fit onto the original Quattro drivetrain and uses a FuelTech FT600 ECU. The sound installation is just as impressive, and behind the seats are 10-inch woofers housed in custom spheres reminiscent of a World War 2 bomber. The Audi rings in the boot is in fact the air tank for the air suspension. Crazy!

We'll be attending this weekend's monster dyno day at 8V Performance in conjunction with Kreetec Engineering. We all know the East Rand packs some of the meanest Golfs in Gauteng, and so we're definitely expecting to see some high numbers on the rollers this coming Saturday.

Scrutineering will be done to ensure the following:
- Fast street cars mainly
- If you want to bring your track car lets talk about it. We are trying to not accommodate cars that need drag slicks to get the run done. We also don't want to see guys get hurt sitting on cars for traction. Safety is key!
- Cars must be able to be strapped down
- Car must be drivable
- 2 Wheel drive mode only
- If the owner can switch 4WD to 2WD he is welcome.
- If we feel the car is dangerous and it is unsafe, we might prefer not to run it.
- Make sure your car is not too low for the dyno
- On newer cars the owner needs to know how to lock it in dyno mode if needed
We want to see all the guys (especially normal aspirated) with the big numbers.
We will never laugh at that proud owner with a 1.4 VW. All welcome!!!!
It's not always just about the number, we like to hear the induction noises as well as the turbo spool. The aim is to have a fun day with petrol heads.
We will have the best boerie rolls and cheese griller rolls in the world.
Lots of room to park your beast with an open bonnet to brag a little with the engine bay.
We beg the guys not to spin and race in the street to ensure a safe day and another future dyno days. Cops will be helping us to keep the good spirit going.
I know how badly I would like to make smoke in front of the crowd too, but we don't want to end up with issues.
