Breaking News

In the village called Lethabong ward 28 in Bojanala district Rustenburg,Mr Frans Mogale reported a missing person to Bojanala TV, Miss Masetswana Maria Marakalla who is born on 01 January 1950. Miss Masetswana Maria Marakalla is residing at house no.2643 Vulla section Lethabong. Mr. Frans Mogale alleged that on the 14th of July 2023, a 73-year-old woman, Maria went to the nearby bushes to fetch some wood together with two other women.

She then disappeared. When two women realized that she is missing, they searched for her and they couldn't find her. They went to the village in Lethabong, and they informed the community members. Community members started with the search for Miss Maria, but couldn't get her trace.
The police were informed, and a preliminary investigation was done. On Saturday and Sunday, community members and police officers continued with the search for Miss Maria in houses and bushes, but with no luck, she was not found.
On Monday they continued as community members and the police officers from the mounted unit utilizing 05 horses, but she was nowhere to be found.
On Tuesday members of the dog, unit came with dogs, they searched for her together with members of the community, also those who are utilizing drones to search for her came and utilized them to search for her, but she was not found even a trace of her. Lethabo Sibanda: Accused denied bail

Following the arrest of a 19-year-old teenager, Blessing Dintle Tladi who brutally stabbed an 18-year-old high school learner, Lethabo Sibanda during a brawl at Rustenburg taxi rank. The accused is currently facing two offences, namely murder and attempted murder.

The bail hearing of the accused took place at Rustenburg Magistrate Court on 14 June 2023. Before proceedings took place, members of various political parties and supporters of the case were argued to remain outside as they might cause distractions inside the court, only family members and the media were allowed inside.

According to the investigating officer, Sargent Mathe who took the stand, “the justice system would have failed the community should the accused be granted bail”. Mathe also added that the community at large is unsettled by the incident that occurred and are afraid that the accused will threaten and harm their children should the accused be granted bail. Mathe concluded that the murder weapon was not recovered in the scene mentioned by the accused.

The attorney representative of Tladi strongly stated that his client is no danger to the society. However, the court took into account the public and made a ruling that Tladi’s bail application be denied.

“The family is happy because Dintle Blessing Tladi has been denied bail. We thank God for projecting us and the community for the support” said the deceased’s aunt, Portia Sibanda.

Sibanda's death is a tragedy, and it is a reminder of the dangers of violence. It is important to remember that violence is never the answer and that there are always better ways to resolve conflict. The accused will appear at Rustenburg Magistrate court, 27 July 2023.

Tladi’s days of freedom may have been cut to 19 years.

The accused, Dintle Blessing Tladi (19 years old), who allegedly stabbed and murdered Lethabo Sibanda; and allegedly stabbed in attempt to kill an unidentified surviving victim will remain in custody for longer after he was denied bail on June 14, 2023.

It is alleged that the accused has always been a troublesome individual who constantly bullied and assaulted fellow school mates during his schooling days, or years rather. This was supposedly discovered during an investigating officer’s investigation when she visited Tladi’s former school, and the head of the school pulled a book of records regarding his violent acts.

It is said that the accused is a gang leader of a feared group around Rustenburg, identified as Masgwandlo. Tladi allegedly left Brits on the Friday of the murder to come defend his gang member at Rustenburg. Upon his arrival is where a physical fight once more transpired; and he allegedly ended up stabbing the deceased to the chest, and the surviving witness to the neck. Tladi is therefore, facing two counts of charges: murder and attempted murder.

Defense lawyer cross examined Tladi’s investigating officer and argued that the testimony she was presenting to the court was mostly based on hearsay. The investigating officer stood by her testimony and shared with the court that the information she is providing is based on her investigation and witnesses.

Arguing for her client’s release, the defense lawyer said that Tladi’s allegations of having a troublesome and violent behaviour were partially baseless as there is no legal record prior to prove that he indeed assaulted his fellow school mate(s). She continued to argue that Tladi is not a “gruesome monster” the witness is trying to portray, or paint him as, rather.

Prosecution closed the case by stating that the accused might disturb public peace; will attempt to influence or intimidate witnesses; and might be in danger himself from the raging public. The court was in agreement and denied the accused bail. The accused will appear before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court once more on 27 July, 2023.

The proceedings of a boy who was brutally stabbed to death

Following the case of 18-year-old Lethabo Sibanda who was stabbed to death at the Rustenburg Bus Rank, the court made a discovery that led to the case being pushed to June, the 14th of 2023.

It came to the attention of the magistrate who was then proceeding with the case that an individual who initiated the circulation of a video(s) concerning the case at hand is of a similar last name with the magistrate. The magistrate informed the court on June, the 12th of 2023, that she would no longer be handling the case.

Furthermore, the legal representative of the accused (Dintle Blessing Tladi), arranged for the case to be transferred from Court D to Court A at the Rustenburg Magistrate Court for possible bail hearing. Thus, the case will be proceeding on the 14th of June, 2023.

In relation to the case, the family of the boy who was stabbed to death are disheartened and hope that such a tragic incident ended with their son. “Emotions are still high right now and it is painful. This is the first week that we are living a reality without Lethabo. We hope that in remembrance of Lethabo and what happened to him, ends with him”, said Lebogang Modisane, Lethabo’s aunt.

Lethabo’s father, Benjamin Mafora shared that he is heartbroken and seeks justice for his son and hopes that it will be served without any fraudulence. The media in coverage of the case could not get ahold of the Tladi family members to hear their comments as they did not make an appearance at the court.
