President Cyril Ramaphosa delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Cape Town’s City Hall on Thursday, February 6.

The president is expected to emphasise unity and outline his plan for the country’s future. He is also set to address the South African military presence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the current state of the South African economy, as well as legislative progress made this year, among other matters.

This SONA is the first under the seventh administration’s Government of National Unity, and it comes amid a mixture of domestic and global challenges, particularly the conflict in DRC.

European Union ministers arrive in Brussels on Monday, January 27, for the Foreign Affairs Council, chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

The agenda includes discussions on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, EU-US relations following the inauguration of Donald Trump, and the latest developments in the Middle East, including Syria. Additionally, the council will address the situation in Moldova and Georgia.

As part of the meeting, ministers will hold an informal video conference with Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha.

World leaders, personally invited by Trump, are expected to attend the ceremony.
