On Wednesday night, a major raid took place at the Johannesburg Correctional Services Centre, also known as Sun City.

Among the seized goods were cell phones and Wi-Fi routers, make-up kits, TVs, knives, scissors, drugs, s*x toys, Playstations, Cellphones, chargers, sim cards and laptops.

NEWS UPDATE: Another Mexican national (44) arrested in connection with the discovery of a clandestine drug lab worth R2 billion in Groblersdal. The suspect will be charged with manufacturing, dealing, and possession of illicit drugs and will appear in court soon.

He will be joining two other Mexican nationals, Gonzales Jorge (51) and Gutierrez Lopes (43), and local farmer Frederick Botha (67) and a Gauteng resident Simphiwe Khumalo (35). The case against the four suspects was postponed to the 1st of August for formal bail application.

NEWS: In honour of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini, the founder of the Sivananda World Peace Foundation, Ishwar Ramlutchman, has announced that they will erect 50 sculptures to commemorate the greatness of the longest serving Zulu monarch whose reign nearly lasted for half a century and was cut short in March 2021.

These sculptures will be a beacon of hope to all South africans and they will be erected on July 27, the birthday of the late King who would have turned 76 this month.

Furthermore, Ramlutchman who was the only Indian to be adopted as a son by the late King and was given the name Prince Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu , Mabheka said His Majesty will be remembered as a much-loved, visionary monarch who made an important contribution to cultural
identity, national unity and economic development in KwaZulu-Natal and
through this, to the development of our country as a whole.

King Goodwill Zwelithini was the honorary patron of the Sivananda World Peace Foundation.

NEWS: A refuse collection truck owned by eThekwini municipality has been stoned while trying to leave a depot in New Germany.

Meanwhile, gates at the Collingwood Road depot have been locked by unknown people, and trucks can not leave to collect refuse.

One of the DA councillors has issued a notice telling residents of his ward that refuse collection will be disrupted due to an alleged strike by EPWP workers.

Three suspects were been shot dead in a gunfight with KZN police officers last night.

The men - who had been hiding out in the Inanda area - allegedly opened fire when officers tracked them down this evening.

The operation was conducted by members of the DPCI Provincial Tracking Team, DPCI Anti-Gang Unit, PMB K9, SAPS Inanda Trio Task Team, Metro Police ORS, and Magma Security & Investigations.

The group was wanted for, among other things, the murder of a police officer.

Guns have been recovered at the scene.

The DA has gone to the Western Cape High Court to try to stop Dr John Hlophe from being part of the JSC.

They believe that if Hlophe is involved, any decisions or suggestions the JSC makes to the President won't be legal.

The JSC is set to meet in October to interview candidates and advise President Cyril Ramaphosa on appointments, including for Hlophe's old job as Judge President.

The DA wants Hlophe to be kept out until the court decides if he was chosen for the JSC fairly. They also mention that taking Hlophe out wouldn't stop the MK Party from choosing a different person for the role.

UPDATE: The Explosives and K9 units of the South African Police Service in KwaZulu-Natal are conducting a precautionary search and sweeping at the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

This is after an unknown person called the court and announced that there was a bomb, which he said would go off at 10h30.

A Brazilian national, Risclif Tadue Ramos (36), was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, after a large quantity of narcotics was found wrapped around his body.

Ramos, who was coming from Brazil, was apprehended by police following intelligence about a drug mule.

He will face charges related to drug trafficking.

Z**i Kodwa, former Sports minister, and Co-accused Jehan Mackay are making their second appearance in the Specialised Commercial Crimes court sitting in Palm Ridge.

They face corruption charges amounting to almost R1.7 million rand.

Kodwa and his co-accused are in high spirits this morning as they appear for a pre-trial conference.

They pair was granted bail of R30 000 on their first appearance last month.

PICS: The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) this morning seized various assets and properties valued at approximately R52.6 million.

The assets and properties are linked to 22 senior management officials, service providers, and entities involved in an alleged corruption network within the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works.

Today's seizure follows a preservation court order from the High Court of South Africa,
Mpumalanga Division, Mbombela obtained by the AFU. The order allows the AFU, SIU,
and Hawks to seize various assets in Mpumalanga, Gauteng, North West, and Western Cape provinces associated with personal protective equipment (PPE) corruption. The operation included serving orders at 34 locations and capturing inventories of 29 properties, 31 vehicles, and a boat trailer.

The court order freezes properties such as houses, electronics, cars, household items, jewellery, arms, ammunition, bank accounts, salaries, and bail monies.

All internet banking privileges will be removed from the accused as of July 23, 2024. The seized assets and frozen properties belong to employees of the Mpumalanga Public Works and others.

NEWS: The National Freedom Party (NFP) has reinstated the membership of Khanyisile Jiyane, the party’s councillor at Abaqulusi (Vryheid) local municipality who was fired in April last year.

Jiyane then took the matter to court. In a sudden turn of events, NFP President, Ivan Barnes wrote to Jiyane’s lawyers and told them that Jiyane had been re-admitted to the party.

NEWS: Last Thursday, Coreth Naudé, a senior advocate acting for the SA Revenue Service (Sars) in a tax inquiry involving controversial socialite and businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, was shot multiple times outside her hotel in Durban.

Naudé had just arrived in Durban in the late afternoon when two gunmen opened fire, wounding her in the upper body, face and neck. Senior advocate Coreth Naude is currently in a stable condition

Sars Commissioner Edward Kieswetter condemned the attack.

He said in a statement that acts such as these and those who perpetrate it, must be resisted, and defeated by everyone who wants a better country and who wants to ensure that no one is above the law. “

NEWS: The DA-run Umngeni local municipality has raised concerns over the decision by the ANC-run Msunduzi local municipality to continue to supply electricity to the leafy suburb of Hilton without a proper licence to do so.
