On 13 June 2020, Darren Luke Jonas, born September 4, 1997 was brutally murdered (Stabbed & Assaulted) by a group of men after being involved in an alleged car accident in Lawrence Erasmus Drive, Port Elizabeth. Darren was on his way to his friends when the incident occurred. It is believed that a vehicle reversed without checking it's blind spot which led to Darren bumping into the reversing vehi

cle. Darren being the only occupant in his car, got out and apologized for the incident and assured that everything would be sorted out by his father, but an apology and attempt to sort out the matter in a respectful manner wasn't enough. They left him laying on the side of the road. A family friend contacted his cousin informing him that something bad has happened to Darren and that there was no sign of Darren only his vehicle. When Darren's father and cousin arrived on the scene, it was too late.

... Cant help but lay and think how cruel people are and how unfair life can be towards good people.

We live in a time where Daylight murder cases, in a busy community, with hundreds of people roaming the streets on a weekend, between 5pm and 6pm in our northern areas.... gets thrown out .... because of LACK OF EVIDENCE.

Its heartbreaking to know that we can no longer depend on our neighbours... the days are gone where we stand and fight for what's right.... we allow single individuals ... destroy and control a whole community of people.....

My prayer tonight is that eventhough our hands are tied ..... we ask for strength to continue to believe that there is a God that sees and knows.... and in Him we trust.

Murder ..... again I say murder ..... people get sent to jail for stealing groceries in a shop ....not for murder.... people get sent to jail for fraud .... not for murder .... what is worse than taking someone's life ? What is worse than taking a .....young... persons life?

Please SHARE this post so that those responsible and those police officers who works hand in hand with criminals , that they are reminded of the agony and disappointment they leave behind in thousands of homes and families.....
.... Darren Luke jonas.... We remember you πŸ•ŠπŸ•ŠπŸ•ŠπŸ•ŠπŸ•Š

13th September 2021 marks 1 year and 3 months since we lost your beautiful and humble soul πŸ’˜πŸ’” You fly with the angels πŸ˜‡ high above. Guiding and protecting your loved ones. Even though the heartache, pain and longing for you is still here on this earth 😒
A sad battle we face in our daily lives. Not to mention your parents and brother you left behind. The unending hope for the impossible to happen πŸ™
Just the desire to see your beautiful face and lovely smile, just one more time 😭
Your birthday month also doesnt make it any easy. This is your month. But now its filled with sadness and pain. Grief is not easy. Even if no one said it would be! An unfair and stupid, selfish and harsh action which broke hearts and connections amongst your loved ones. Now we have to pick up the pieces of our broken hearts while they continue to live their lives, care free πŸ˜” We serve a living GoD and he will work where no man can πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Dear Darren,

In your life you've touched many lives. In your death many lives were changed. It's always the tears that measures the pain... sometimes it's the smile we fake.

Goodbye's hurts when the story is not finished... and the book has been closed forever....

Sincerely,
Your Mother...

Today is a very sad day for friends and family of Darren Jonas.

Darren was assaulted & murdered in front of the residents in Lawrence Erusmes drive and corner of St James street on the 13th of June 2020.

The case never made it to trial and was thrown out today based on a lack of evidence.

It's a good day for the accused and his family rejoicing in the fact that our justice system is weak...

Thank you to the wonderful community and friends who supports this page... every comment and share does not go unnoticed. Much appreciated

Thank you Roslyn Baatjies-Klaasen for the beautiful article in today's Herald.

It was not even 10 minutes from when Darren Jonas, 22, left his home in Fernwood Park that his father, Donovan, received a call that he had been involved in an accident with his Toyota Tazz.

But when Donovan reached the scene on Lawrence Erasmus Drive in Bloemendal shortly after on June 13, it was too late. His eldest son was dead, having allegedly been assaulted and stabbed after the fender-bender.

After the suspect appeared in court on October 7, Darren’s childhood friend Ashwin Christian started a page called Justice for Darren Jonas.

β€œIt is not as if his case is the only one, but we have to start somewhere.

β€œThe page was initially started to provide updates about the case and for support for his family,” Christian said.

β€œPerhaps this page and the outcry of other community members who are in the same situation can motivate the pursuance of those other cases.

β€œThe main focus is to be a voice for his life.

β€œThe page was not started to fight those who are responsible for his death.

β€œThere are many campaigns that start like this and it ends without something positive happening.

β€œI believe this campaign will not end without a positive outcome.”

Christian said the page resulted in an outpouring of support and more than 900 people had already shared it.

Darren’s mother, Leizl, said they are grateful for the initiative Christian had taken to start the page.

β€œThere are no words to explain how we feel.

β€œIt just shows that he was a true friend to Darren.

β€œIt is more than special to us.”

She added she was devastated when she heard that her son, a well-liked, respectful young man, had been murdered.

β€œWe had two sons and now only have Riley, who is nine years old and the sunshine in our lives,” she said through her tears.

Darren’s death also touched teachers at his former school, Westville Secondary

The Herald saw a condolence letter written by his former teacher Claudia Julius.

She described him as a gentle giant who was helpful, especially financially, when his peers could not attend school because their parents could not afford it.

β€œThough our education system is academic driven, his practical skills and mechanical prowess stood him in good stead because he would never stand back and allow people to struggle if he knew how to assist them in these tasks,” she wrote.

The Jonases said they had many dreams for their son who had a big interest in and passion for motor vehicles.

Donovan said on the day they returned from the mortuary, a company had called on Darren’s phone to tell him that his application for a job in East London was successful.

β€œThat was not the only one. Messages often come through on his cellphone asking if he is still available for a job.

β€œI then have to tell the recruitment companies that Darren is no more,” Donovan said.

The family put a cross at the scene where Darren’s body was found and regularly place flowers there.

β€œWe do not do it because we want pity, but for us it helps to get us through the difficult days.

The cross is where my child was murdered” and nobody came to help him.

β€œI will put flowers there for as long as I feel it is necessary.

β€œI think it will bring some form of closure,” Leizl said.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg confirmed that a case of murder had been opened following the car accident.

It was not even 10 minutes from when Darren Jonas, 22, left his home in Fernwood Park that his father, Donovan, received a call that he had been involved in an accident with his Toyota Tazz.

Every month the sunday that falls after the 13th, we gather at the spot where Darren was murdered in Lawrence Erusmus Drive. to say a little prayer and put fresh flowers on the cross.

This past sunday we paid tribute through song. Thank you to Eon Le Roux and Megan Scheuble for rendering a few items. Highly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who commented, shared and took out the time to like the page so far. Everyday we go through the messages and comments and its so heartwarming to see and know that there are still good people out there who just want a safer community. Darren's case is just one of many but we need to start somewhere... Justice for one is justice for all. The fight is not against the ones responsible but against ourselves because what are we doing to prevent another one from happening ? Our fight is not against our justice system because even the justice system is just a person. Behind every sentence given is a man or woman who decides. These judges go according to what is given to them as evidence, they deal with so many cases a day that they don't have the time to really feel or to begin to imagine the pain and loss that those left behind are experiencing. We are one when we stand together... but we cant only stand together when it suits us or when it hits home.

To the community of Ext 28 and surroundings. Your fears are much respected because even you are just trying to protect your family and yourself but next week it could be your son, daughter, sister, brother, uncle, mother father etc .... it could even be you.

Don't wait until you get the phone call or the knock on your door that something bad has happened to a loved one...

Thank you............. Please don't stop sharing
