ALL THE DEAD BABIES
Is a woman with post-partum depression who
kills her child really a murderer?

It’s well documented that post-partum depression (being depressed after childbirth) is a serious and not uncommon condition. In some women, it can lead to post-partum psychosis, which has a range of symptoms such as delusions or strange beliefs, hallucinations, extreme irritation, restlessness, reckless behaviours that aren’t usual for the person, decreased need for sleep or the inability to sleep, paranoia, rapid mood swings and difficulty communicating.

The indomitable , author of the award-winning Bare – The Blesser’s Game, has once again used her uncanny ability to root out the core of an issue to address a highly controversial topic – mothers killing babies. Taking a character from her incredibly relevant and practical children’s books series, we see young Liwa all grown up and dealing with a whole new set of situations and circumstances that are highly relevant to women in today’s world. Liwa, launching on 1st July 2021, is a book for adults that weaves an intricate story of two friends, using global and local research to deeply dive into this highly emotional issue that is impacting South Africa – asking the question are women born killers or does society create them.

True to form, Jackie adds twists and turns to the story, unravelling the psyche of female serial killers and their unique lusts. It’s a deeply disturbing story, and one which readers may not like to admit they relate to. That’s because Jackie always inserts human truths into her writing, backed by endless research into the heart of the subject.

Author, philanthropist, businesswoman, social activist and truth seeker, Jackie has written a number of controversial books, as well as a series of children’s stories. Her latest release, Liwa will no doubt cause a stir, but it will make you think, and perhaps wonder.

Get your copy at the launch at Melrose Art Gallery on 31st July, or get yours at all major book stores.

INSPIRATION IN A TIME OF RE-BUILDING
Entrepreneur Simphiwe Masiza has just released his newest book, offering a world of wisdom and inspiration that’s accessible for everyone.

The world has shifted and changed dramatically because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though we’re past the hard lock down situations of 2020, there is still a long way to go before anyone can feel quite normal again. There have been losses of all kinds, and many people are quite simply exhausted. But, as the world opens up again, there is also a time for re-building.

If there was ever a time in the world when everyone needed a little motivation to kick off that re-building, to find the inspiration to move forward, then that time is now.

And just in time, Simphiwe Masiza has launched his book, The Pitcher at the Fountain of Wisdom – a carefully selected collection of quotes from around the world, with unique insights – highlighting the wisdom found in each saying or quote and how it can be used in daily life to inspire, spark introspection, incite change and bring understanding.

“Everyone needs motivation and inspiration from time to time. My hope is that The Pitcher at The Fountain of Wisdom will give you just that; and inspire you to do what needs to be done, to comfort you when things feel a bit tough, and to touch you when you need to be sustained,” says Masiza.

It’s the type of book you’ll keep close to you, something you can dip into whenever you need inspiration. Each quote will give you pause for thought and Masiza’s insights will move you to go deeper.

The Pitcher at the Fountain of Wisdom is a book designed to be used daily – and you may find yourself buying a few copies over time because you’ll be compelled to share the wisdom, motivation and inspiration with others by giving your current copy away.

DURA CREATIVES RECEIVES BOOKS FROM THE EMBASY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO BOOST ITS BOOK DRIVE.

Earlier today, Thursday, 29 April 2021, Mr Mathutha Masimula, head of projects representing Dura Creatives held a meeting with the cultural affairs unit of the embassy of the United States of America in Hatfield, Pretoria.

The purpose of the meeting was the handing over of books as a donation from the US Embassy to help Dura Creative’s book drive initiative that is aimed at distribution to the library of needy schools identified by Dura creative as a way of contributing to the development, encouragement and improvement of the literacy levels of learners.

Speaking during the handover meeting, the Cultural Affairs Officer Ms Maureen Mimnaugh indicated that the embassy is pleased with the partnership with Dura Creatives. “We are pleased to take part in partnership with Dura Creatives in order to play a role in the education and development of young people in Mpumalanga as this is a responsibility shared by both the governments of the United States of America and ‭South Africa”, said Ms Mimnaugh.

Ms Mimnaugh went on to outline more programmes that the USA continues to participate in around different areas of South Africa, and the library spaces they created and the wish to continue creating more beyond the COVID19 pandemic.

“We are pleased to receive the first batch of books from the USA embassy, and as Dura Creatives we hope to work more with the embassy in strengthening the partnership we have started in order to better the future of the education of the young people of Mpumalanga”, said Mr Masimula during the handover of books.

Dura Creatives shall continue to roll out the book drive initiative with a plan of collecting and distributing the books to needy schools libraries. The main aim of this initiative is to ensure that the remote areas of our communities have library spaces to encourage the culture of reading and that will lead to the improvement of literacy levels of the young people.

Dura Creatives extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the USA Embassy team of Ms Ruth Koko, the American spaces Coordinator, Ms Maureen Mimnaugh and Ms Liza Smith, Media Liaison for their personal book donations and role in making sure the handover is successful.
